Don's Hardwood Flooring

Don is professional. We had just purchased the home and had the work done prior to move-in, so there was no need to move or cover furniture or household items, which helped speed the process along. He was in and done in a week once we had booked him and was very flexible and easy to work with throughout the entire estimate/scheduling process. In fact, due to the house closing being moved back a couple of times and having to re-shuffle some other contractors, I had to change Don's schedule more than once. He was always very responsive, flexible, polite, and willing to work with me. After the project was complete, he also took time to educate me on the proper care of the floor, both in the short term (while it fully cured) and in the long term. I would definitely recommend Don and would use him again if needed.

I was happy with the result. Clean-up was pretty good and the pricing was reasonable and in-line or better than other estimates we received. Don, the owner, does a lot of the work himself. He is heavily involved. He does the finishing work himself. He has a good eye for detail.

No doubt about it, Don is an absolute pro. My wife and I purchased a home in Larchmont and needed to refinish the hardwood floors (1st & 2nd floors) prior to move-in. We interviewed a number of contractors, but Don seemed most knowledgeable, easy to work with, and dependable. He delivered for us. On time and on budget. In addition to delivering what we asked, he went above and beyond by making some small repairs (e.g., laying wood over old floor sockets) and also adding an additional coat of poly to our stairwell while he was waiting for the kitchen to cure. He was very communicative throughout the entire process -- I find text to be easiest, and he obliged me. Also, when he finished, he took the time to walk me through how to properly care for and protect the great work he did. Specific cleaning supplies, how to properly affix pads, etc. He really cares about his work and his customers' near- and long-term satisfaction with his work. On top off all of this, he's a great guy with a great sense of humor. I will most certainly call him when we have more work to be done.

Man came to house today to give estimate for 4 rooms which needed either new floors or refinishing of old floors. He was late for agreed appointment. My wife told him certain rooms did not need any work and he scowled at her. He put his dirty metal bag on our $5,000 suede couch, and when my wife said please take that off immediately he replied "I cannot work with you, I am too busy" and he left.

Don was very nice and understood my urgency. He said he was booked until sometime in September, but he tried to figure out how he could get a crew to me this week. Unfortunately, he realized that he was not going to be able to do it. He was very apologetic. When I asked if he'd recommend another contractor, he didn't hesitate. He recommended someone in my general neighborhood that he knows does quality work. I really liked the fact that he was honest and so helpful.

Don was very responsive to my initial inquiry and came do an estimate the following day. He's friendly and straight forward and I could tell from the beginning that I could trust him to do a high quality job. It's important to note that he is personally involved from start to finish to ensure that the job is done right. After his team performs the initial sanding and puts down the first coat of finish, Don himself personally lays down the final coats, buffs and sands by hand the following two days. Overall, I am very satisfied and I highly recommend you use him if you're looking for high quality work at a fair price.

Just as our last contract with Don, this went as smooth as silk! The sanding team arrived exactly as scheduled and worked continuously until they were finished. I have no idea how they keep the dust from finding it's way into our home, but there was literally nothing anywhere! Terrific work! After they sealed the floors, the next two days, which includes drying and settling time in between, Don came and applied the 3 finishing coats to the bedroom floors and added an extra coat to our stairs, which he had refinished the last time. That was a bonus he threw in and now they look even more amazing than they already did! Overall, the job was exactly as planned with minimal cleanup on our part. Don is always pleasant and fun to talk with. We could not be happier with his work and highly recommend him to anyone needing hardwood flooring installed or refinished. We will surely be calling him for future projects.

It went great. I only had to spend one night in the basement so I wasn't displaced for too long. The finished dried very quickly and I am very happy with the work. He recommended a product that I should start using top mop the floors rather than using water.

The experience was refreshingly perfect from start to finish. Don was punctual for all estimate and installation appointments. His quote was extremely reasonable. He is very knowledgeable and confident about his work. The team started the project exactly on the day I needed it done and finished ahead of schedule. The floor looked amazing! We had our floor ebonized and Don's team achieved an optimal result of an ebonized floor that still showed the beautiful grain in the wood. After their work was completed, I needed him to stain a new saddle and a small area of wood floor that got exposed when we removed the old security system. Don was a pleasure to work with. He was very informative and gave good advice. He and his workers did a wonderful job. The sanding and refinishing process generated very little dust and no odor.

Don did a great job on the floors of our newly purchased house. We could give him only a very narrow time window for him to do the job, but he was spot on schedule, even working on the weekend to get it done in time. He knows his flooring, and he gave us a good selection of products to choose from, but was flexible to adjust his suggestions to our needs. We appreciate that he carefully inspected the subfloor and stairs, and fixed several uneven areas before beginning; and also alerted us to some mold that he found behind our baseboards, caused by a hidden leak. He was personally present to do the work at all times, and was always professional and friendly. Communication was excellent. The floor looks beautiful, and any mess or dust was meticulously cleared away (my son has asthma and he had no issues breathing when we moved in). We're very happy with the service that Don and his workers provided.

I arrived near the end of the sanding process. The firm had retained a subcontractor. While the firm's Angie's List profile refers to "using a dust containment system," and this is the industry standard, there was no effort made to contain the dust. The equipment had no vacuum cleaning system, and nothing (e.g., vents and stairway) was sealed off. This meant that, once the job was complete, extra cleaning by others was necessary, including wiping down the walls and removing and cleaning vent registers. In addition, when the stain was applied, this was not done with care to avoid marking up the baseboard. The painter had to repaint all the baseboards on the floor. The floor does look good, but the failure to contain dust, and the lack of care regarding the baseboards, were unacceptable.

Don and his team provided expert service at a very reasonable price. The floors were last finished 17 years ago and have since been the victims of many parties and lots of adult, child and pet traffic. In many spots the bare wood was showing and we were quite concerned if they could be returned to their original beauty. Our stairs, 12 in all, were never finished and looked awful! Don came and gave a friendly estimate, fully explaining what was entailed and what we should expect. His pricing was excellent! The team who did the sanding and sealing made extra sure to tape and seal off the other rooms to eliminate the spread of dust. They worked fast and were very polite. Don and an assistant applied the top coats. The work took two days and the floors and stairs look as if they were just newly installed. The dust level was minimal and cleaned up relatively fast. We are very pleased with the quallity and pleasant service we received from Don and his team and would gladly recommend them to anyone needed expert hardwood floor work.

Don has an encyclopedic knowledge of flooring and the refinishing process. He was very patient and let us ask a lot of questions. This flooring needed a light touch bc it was an old pre-manufactured surface. We think it looks great now. His team also helped by removing some shelving for us. He was punctual and he finished on time, which we appreciate. Don would help himself and his clients by using plastic sheeting more than he did. He covered an entrance to the bedroom areas, but not the kitchen or basement entrances. He should also set up an email account so you don't have to call and text to reach him with simple questions. He also left materials here that we can't dispose of easily. We like Don and his work, and we wish him the best going forward.

Don is professional in all aspects of his job. Over 5 years he worked with us to repair and refinish oak floors throughout my house. We have contacted him for more projects and will begin anew asap.

Everything went great. They were punctual, did excellent work, they cleaned up both days (it was a 2-day job). I had forgotten when they were coming and I did not remove anything from the two rooms (they had asked us in advance to remove anything small and fragile--they had no problem moving the heavy stuff). Anyway, they ended up moving everything out of the two rooms, including all of the small fragile stuff--at not extra charge. I found their price was fair and we plan to use them to do the same work in our 3 upstairs bedroom and hallway later this year.

Don did a wonderful job. He was always on-time and did a wonderful job. He even worked around some difficulty from our building's management and finished the job. He was extremely skilled, diligent and did a great job. I would definitely use him again and highly recommend him.

The entire process was really pleasant. I scoped out Angie's List to get some names of floor refinishers. Called Don first because he was nearby (actually, he has moved) and everyone seemed happy with his work. Called, he showed when he said he would, and he wrote up an estimate on the spot. I knew the estimate was legit because I had had several before (wound up not getting work done) and it was pretty much the same. Don is easygoing and friendly. He gave me a few options which impacted the price and gave his opinion of what finish he thought I should use. The best part was that I thought there would be a ton of dust throughout the house, but there was hardly any. I really thought this was going to be a nightmare of a process, which is why I kept putting it off. Nothing could be further from the truth!! Floors look awesome, Don was great, price more than fair....would totally use him again. (and I am a picky one)

We didn't live locally, so we had to make our decision sight unseen. Don was informative, explained what he was going to do and made the decision easy. He worked exactly with the dates we needed (we had literally one week available, which was how long it would take, and he made the dates work), he finished on time (if not a day early) and the floors look great. It's an old house, and the floors hadn't been refinished in forever, so a tough job and you wouldn't know it from the end result. Anyone that comes over compliments us on them! The floors are amazing and beautiful. We knew from the moment we hired him that he truly cares about doing the finest job, and it shows. Our floors are beautiful. He is an expert and also a perfectionist. Our house is an old Tudor and the floors were irregular and difficult, but he handled them with careful, expert craftsmenship. He is extremely knowledgeable and is great at educating the customer - he really helped us understand why he was doing certain things a specific way. He is extremely punctual, always accessible, responds extremely quickly, and always in touch. He is great with providing updates on the progress of the work as well. We would definitely use Don for all future flooring work we do, and would highly recommend him!

I highly recommend Don's Hardwood Floors. He started exactly on the date he promised, and did everything he promised. His team of workers was not only experienced, but very careful, and very clean. I give him the highest mark. Bravo Don.

Called, got no answer and it's been a week. Others have answered and made appointments to give estimates during this time.

Punctuality, communication, professionalism, Don is unmatched in the construction business. He kept his promise from the 1st time he came for an estimate to the last day he left. He answered all questions and some. Dealing with him is headache free. The kitchen had badly damaged pine floor, he told me that the finish result will not be acceptable. He did his best and it came up better then I expected. The rest of the house, which had an average quality oak floor, I expected little better finish but it could be the quality of the floor he started with. He took his time to go over coloring and he was courteous enough to go to my previous residence to show him the color I like. I will not hesitate to request his services again and to recommend him to fellow?s member.

Upon arrival the floors were repaired, they were then sanded, and given one coat and allowed to dry. The next couple of days three more coats were applied and allowed to dry I between each one. I had the rooms cleared of any kin knacks and or small pieces of furniture . The rest was moved by don' crew who were very polite and efficient. The floors were buffed before the final coat and the next day the furniture was replaced.

I called a number of hardwood flooring guys on Angie's List as well as referred by friends/colleagues and spoke to them. The first appointment I set up with was Don. After meeting in person with Don for the first time my gut feeling was that I needed to look no further and looking back that gut feel was right. I could not have been more satisfied with the overall experience. I am not sure I got the cheapest price since I did not get other quotes but I do know I got a pretty reasonable price based on what I heard from other people. Don's team came in and did a very thorough and clean job and completed everything on time. I am very satisfied with the results and would strongly recommend Don for any wood flooring related work. Don is a consummate professional and takes pride, ownership and responsibility for his work.
