We had sewage back up into our laundry room sink and bathroom sink. We called another company (by mistake, we thought we were calling Citywide) and despite snaking for over an hour they could not fix the problem. After calling Citywide the same day to see if they could help, Harry showed up quickly and was able to diagnose the problem within 20 minutes. The other company only visually looked at the trap because they couldn't access it easily. Harry was able to access it so he could correctly diagnose the problem (tree roots had compromised the pipe from our house). He was able to get a camera into the pipe to show me the damage. Luckily they were able to use PVC pipe inside the compromised pipe (if not, we would have had to replace the whole pipe). Harry gave us great tips on what to do since we would be without running water/toilets until early the next morning (he reminded to give my daughter a bath, run the dishwasher if necessary, etc.). He and his team were very knowledgeable, courteous, professional and honest. I would HIGHLY recommend Citywide! Thanks Harry!
Description of Work: Was able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem that was causing sewage backup in our basement.

Courteous and professional, 6 month guarantee. One of two sewage drain caps was partially covered with concrete on one side which had to be chiseled out and although not a lot more work it was something that I would not be surprised if another plumber might tack on fees to do or might not take the time to open the second cap and do a complete job. Minimal mess. Not cheap but also no add ons one might find with a cheap up front fee and then a lot of up charges. Definitely would use them again.

Peter came and explained everything to us. He told us the job was gonna take a while and boy he wasn't kidding! Very knowledgeable and reasonable. Peter not only did the job we hires him for but he checked all the pipes in my house and found problems that would have caused significant problems down the line. He only made recommendations he didn't pressure us at all.
Description of Work: Had a leaky pipe behind the wall and it was leaking into my basement. The basement pipe had a crack in it. It turns out the whole T-pipe was rotten and so was the bathroom and kitchen J-pipes. They all had to be replaced.

Was able to speak to a live person on my first phone call. Once a Technician was secured I received a call back with and estimated time of arrival. Problem was fixed fairly quickly and garbage was placed in trash bags. The price was a lot higher than the last provider I used but it could be for the fact that I called during a holiday weekend.

Description of Work: We had leaks on the drain pipe. We called the company in the morning. They sent the plumber, Mr John Taylor within an hour or so. John went over the problem with thorough details. He was meticulous at his task and did fix the leaks. He further went and checked for other leaks and did fix them up. Awesome work and was very professional.

Suffice it to say we won't ever ever call them again and most certainly will not refer to family and friends.. Original price was $5,898, but they did refund $1,000 after complaint. Most certainly not enough. Draw your own conclusions.
Description of Work: Estimate was $200. Cleared the line from the house to the street. Did not dig up the driveway. Did not replace the pipe but, according to them, did insert a sleeve. Asked to see the video of the pipe that was supposedly taken, but it was not provided.

Citywide was recommended by Eddie at Econo-Sewer. Although they did similar work, when I mentioned possible drainage well issues, he gave me an option to consider Citywide. After contacting them, the came as promised based on my availability the next morning. For a reasonable charge, he repaired a long line (75 ft plus) that lead from the back of my home to the street which was unknown to me. He spent considerable time and effort to diagnose and correct a long running issue at the home. This issue created major water to reside against the home for year causing it to settle and leak slightly into basement. Needless to say, it's all fixed! In inquired with workman what would happen if he didn't fix it ? He said, and quot;they always doand quot;. He said if he cannot fix it, another Sr member will come to assist. If both of them can't fix, then the owner/head guys will come and ensure its fixed. What a great mindset. No more roto-roter or any of those mainstream services for me. Call Citywide or Eddie at Econo-Sewer for those of you in the 5 boroughs or nassau.

They showed up on time, and were finished in one day early enough for me to have dinner. They were very neat in the house - every time they walked into the house, they put booties on over their work boots so they wouldn't track dirt through the house. I didn't have to clean up at all inside. When I was getting estimates, every one I got an estimate from said it was probable I'd lose my front porch and walk. The sewer line leaves the house only a few inches away from the porch, meaning they would have to dig right up against the porch and walk. I fully expected to lose both. As it turned out, the pipe was so close to the porch that it was completely underneath the footing. The crew managed to get the hole dug, line replaced, and filled in without disturbing the porch or walk at all. Watching the guy running excavator was almost like watching a surgeon work. They had to remove part of the sidewalk to do the job. They cut it down into sections with a gas powered masonry saw, then carefully lifted out the sections. When they were done, they placed them all back and leveled them. You can tell the sidewalk was disturbed from where it was originally, but it's perfectly workable and safe until I can get it re-done. It needed to be re-done anyway, but at least now it's not a rush to get it done before someone falls. There was yard work to be done afterward, which I expected. If they were landscapers, I wouldn't have hired them to fix my plumbing. I have a sprinkler system, which needed to be reconnected where they had to cut the lines that crossed the trench. The ground is so rocky here, it seems like whenever you dig, the rocks work their way to the top, so I had to rake out the big rocks at the surface and lay down some topsoil to get it ready for grass. Considering how much of the yard had to be dug up, it was less work than I expected would have to be done, and since they saved the porch and walk, it was significantly less than I expected. I would hire them again without hesitation.
Description of Work: Had to replace the sewer line from the house to the street, and the trap under the house it hooks up to. Replacing the trap required breaking up the basement floor, and cementing the hole when done. Replacing the sewer line required digging a trench about 50 feet long with a 45 degree bend in it to angle away from a fire hydrant at the curb, about 8 feet deep at the house, and 10 feet deep at the street.

i called 4 companies to get estimates. i chose citywide because of the price and helpfulness of the general manager i dealt with. they don't do grass re-install but my area was small so it was not a deal breaker for me. fred said he could do the work with one day's notice and could get the permit right away because they do so much work on long island. that is a fact! the guys came on time, were very pleasant, excavation went well and they cut up the dead tree stump by the sewer line and installed the new one. i then asked them to remove two small but tall trees from the front of my house (fred didn't charge for this). they cut up in pieces for me. today, 2/11/13, after the snowstorm, i noticed what i thought was a leak in the u-shaped sewer trap. i called fred and he had me call the office and a serviceman was there within 40 minutes. he identified that the leak was coming through the foundation opening by the line from all the snow melting and the rain, nothing wrong with the pipe itself. whew, saved again. fred did not charge for this call. i definitely recommend them!

Pros : Clean, Courteous, Timely, Upfront about Charges. Cons : Overpriced, Misleading Guarantees, No Commitment to their Work. I hired City-Wide because they are used by a variety of large organizations here on Long Island, and felt confident they were better than your average discount plumber. Any quality establishment would make good on their previous errors and wasting of my time - I will not use them again.
Description of Work: I am completely disgusted with City-Wide. I have a newly purchased and constructed property, that was experiencing water backups on the main level. Visit One : 1/11/13: City-Wide arrives, thinks it may be a problem with the cesspool, even though that was just checked by someone else, so they ask to dig it up and I agree. They determine it to not be the problem and eventually decide to snake the trap. They find a backup in the pipe, remove it, and give me a six month guarantee. (approx. $394.25) Visit Two : 1/19/13 : City-Wide arrives, snakes again through the trap under the guarantee, can't find anything, and proceeds to snake the toilet, and two bathtubs. They find nothing to be the cause, and think that maybe the pipes are backpitched, but no recommendations are made. ($325) FYI - the handwritten guarantee now specifies ONE VISIT. Visit Three : 1/31/13 : City-Wide arrives to find a bathroom full of water (in the bathroom I don't use!) and the water leaking through the walls into the hallway. He now informs me that my guarantee is only good for one visit, but that he'd snake it for free if I agree to also pay him $375 to put a camera in the line. Seeing as how this is their third visit this month, that seems like a good idea. He tries snaking the line first, but is unable to, so he sends in the camera, and finds a metal blockage, that upon inspection, appears to be adhered to the pipe. Watching him, it is difficult for him to snake past it, and I wonder why the other plumbers did not recognize the immediate issue ONE FOOT from the trap?? He spends two hours attempting to remove the offending metal, to no avail. ($407.34) John calls me promptly at 7:45am (RUDE) and I return his call during NORMAL business hours. They would like an additional $1850 to now cut and remove the offending section of pipe. I ask, what about the $700 you wasted of mine snaking a drain and not finding any problem? And then charging me over and over again to keep snaking different places in the house with no result? The best they can do? $150 off. Completely ridiculous. I let him know to call me if he would like to make good on their previous errors, and if not, I'd be seeking out another plumber.

Everything went fine. Showed up within an hour of me calling, very clean and professional. Price was a bit high (275 at first, got a discount through a coupon for 200). However, from what I hear Rotorooter is even worse (4-500). For the price, I might just buy the machine at home depot for 300 and do it myself should I have a problem again.

The men came and tried to locate the septic tanks. Unable to locate them, they suggested that I pay to have a camera locate them. I said okay and then I received an estimate from Wayne that was very disturbing. I called the building inspector in my village and he arrived at my door in less than 8 minutes with the plans that were filed with the Village, which is required of each home. I received repeated emails from Wayne requesting that I sign and send back the proposal. I sent and email to Wayne asking why he did not tell me that the plans were filed in the Village Hall. He blamed it on my housekeeper. I am very well known in the community and plan to share this experience with all of my neighbors. This stupidity could be very costly for Citywide.
Description of Work: I called for an estimate to have my septic tanks pumped. I gave them some plans I had in the house for the location of the tanks. Mr. Wayne, who does 90% of the houses in my community, knew that I needed to obtain a permit from the Village Hall, but had to take my money to look for the tanks, when he had to have known that plans had to be filed with the Village. When I questioned him he pathetically blamed in on my housekeeper.

They told us that we needed to replace the entire shower body. He then said he had to order the part and we had to give a deposit. When the next service worker came in to do the install, he advised us that we didn't need the shower body. He said that the repair was beyond the scope of what he could do and that we needed a contractor who could cut through the marble and look into what exactly is the problem. They left without fixing it, but they did mail us back our deposit.
