When they came out to do the estimate, I was actually at home. We discussed the situation a little and why the roof needed to be replaced. They then did what they needed to do to arrive at an estimate, and gave me the estimate on the spot. They also explained each material item on the estimate and showed me examples of some of them. Being a woman, sometimes tradesmen can be somewhat condescending or patronizing, but they were very amenable and answered all my questions very well. After hiring them, it ended up being a more difficult job than we or the roofer expected, since when they started work they discovered a number of bees nests in the gables and siding and along some of the eaves. Not honey bees, but a more aggressive type of bee. We had known that there were some, but not the quantity they found. They notified us of the situation immediately, then made phone calls to locate an exterminator for us. This delayed the work for a few days. Unfortunately, the exterminator only did a "general treatment" and did not eliminate many of the bees in the roof area, but the roofer knew we wanted the roof replaced prior to an open house (the property was on the market), so they used their own bee spray and proceeded with the work. They finished the job in the amount of time they said they would, and charged us exactly what they had on the estimate, even though they had done extra work related to the bees, calling around for an exterminator, and doing some patch jobs to the board and batten siding between the rooflines, which had been damaged by ice due to the way the prior roof was installed. For the patch job, they not only put up fresh wood, but they even painted it a color so close to the house color that you only notice the difference if looking for it. Each day they cleaned up after themselves, including using a large magnet on wheels to pick up stray nails. When the dumpster was delivered, we assumed it would have to block our garage door due to the layout of the property - we are on a hillside and that is the only level ground immediately adjacent to the house. They managed to position it so we could get in and out of the garage. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and speed of their work and with the way they kept in touch with us during the project. They say they do other types of work too, and I am definitely going to contact them if I need help with projects once I am in my new home.
