Recently, we moved into a new home in Upstate New York; a ranch with living space on the main floor and a full basement (which was unfinished when we moved in). This Spring we decided to finish about half of the basement to give us some additional living space and an office. We obtained bids from two local contractors, ultimately deciding to have the work done by William F. McMahon of Canandaigua, New York (also the town where we live). We chose to work with Bill for several reasons; the first being that we simply trusted him immediately. Bill presents himself as an honest, down to earth person who just wants to do the very best for his customers. He is all that and more. Bill worked with us on the design for the space and guided us in making certain decisions about where walls and doors should go, whether we could use the existing HVAC system or not (we could), what kind of flooring would work best, even what kind of paint to use and how much we would need. We told him what our budget was and he delivered a plan that hit the target, dead center! Then he gave us a New York State approved contract with every detail spelled out and dates for each phase?he hit every date, spot on. This project covered just under 800 sq. ft., and involved framing, drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, insulation, flooring, and installation of all doors, trim and fixtures. Everything Bill?s crew and subs did was top notch; all his guys are experienced, friendly, hard-working, and quality conscious to a T. Everything is plumb, true and finished beautifully. We could not have asked for more. If we were to have any more remodeling or construction work done, Bill McMahon would be the first (and only) contractor we would call. There is simply not a more honest, kind, and capable person in this field in this region of New York. We would recommend Bill to anyone!

Bill and his crew did excellent work on our bathroom and kitchen renovations, they were very dependable and cleaned up at the end of each day. I would not hesitate to use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Bathroom and kitchen. We had our bathroom renovated in 2015, the bathtub was replaced with a walk in shower and new vanity, lighting and flooring were installed. Bill and his crew were great to work with, so much so that when we renovated our kitchen in May 2016 we called Bill again. The kitchen job involved tearing out old cabinets and a closet, drywall repair, installation of new cabinets, tile backsplash, installing over the range microwave with exterior exhaust vent, plumbing, lighting and new electric outlets. The work was very well done. Bill and his crew were responsive to any questions that we had and small issues were promptly resolved. I would highly recomend him.

Bill and his men were professional, Prompt, and did great work. And for the quoted fee. Not knowing what this would cost, it was slightly higher that we expected, BUT, worth every dime because Bill did what he said he would do, when he said he would do it, and it looks great

Bill gave a clear, detailed estimate for the work and was very professional. He was punctual and responsive to questions and change orders. He had competent helpers who were also careful and trustworthy. His work was that of a fine craftsman and he was a pleasure to work with. We had past experiences with hiring cheaper contractors but got what we paid for so we gladly paid Bill's prices for quality work.

I found this contractor on Angie's list and left an email on 10/21. Been trying to fix this leak for a couple of years and unable to stop it so wanted a professional contractor to fix it this time. Got a phone message that evening saying he would call me in the morning...and he did! Came out that very afternoon to meet me at the house, and tested with a hose to try to replicate the leak. Of course it didn't leak while he was here, but I did find water later that evening. He quoted me $300 and proposed the following fix and I agreed. Sent a crew out Friday to tear out the trim to check the siding and construction done by the builder above the door. They did find where water was getting in around the ends of the drip edge where it had not been properly taped and sealed by the builder. They tore off the trim above and on either side of the door and taped and sealed the edges of the drip edge and down the sides so water won't get in. Reassembled the whole thing, filled the screw holes and you'd never know it had been taken apart. I will certainly call William F McMahon the next time I need a good contractor.
Description of Work: tore out the ledge between the large arched window and transom window above the front door to find where water was getting in when wind drives rain against the front of the house.

After reading the most recent reviews on my company I am concerned. I have been in business for thirty plus years and maintain an A+ rating at Angie's list. My reputation stands for it self. My customers are most important to me as they keep my business going. I pride myself on customer service from the first meeting to the finish job. I am available to my customers during business hours and most often nights and weekends. I do return phone calls and show up on time for meetings. I give free estimates and always give the customer detailed specifications for each job.

I couldn't be more pleased with the work Bill and his crew completed. They replaced my entry door unit and made all the necessary repairs in one day. And they did it on a Saturday so I didn't have to miss work. Bill and his crew were friendly and professional, and they approached the work carefully and thoughtfully. No matter how many questions I asked (and I tend to ask a lot of questions), or how often I checked on their progress (I do this quite a bit too), they were patient and helpful and never made me feel like I was in the way. I never felt they rushed to get the job done. From the very start of the process, I could tell I found the right person for the job. Bill is a very experienced contractor with an eye for details. He isn't interested in just doing the job, he is interested in doing the job right. His background with historic preservation showed in the way he approached the work. He replaced everything so it matched exactly what was there previously. When the job was done, it was impossible to tell any work was completed. I would hire Bill again without reservation.
Description of Work: Replaced entry door/sidelights/transom and repaired rotted floor joists and sill. Additional note - Entry door unit was purchased separately from a local building supply/lumber company and not included in the approximate cost of service shown above.

Work was not performed by this contractor because he never got back to us after he took all the measurements for our project. If he was not able to handle the scope of our project he could have been professional and let us know. I will not call him in the future for anything we are doing.

The deck is sturdy :) Trex has a black mold problem that can be eliminated by using a sponge brush (width of board) and Olympic deck cleaner undiluted.. Hose off... I would like all contractors to follow up ...perhaps a few months after installation... Just ask if everything is OK... Also would like contractor to check on workers during installation... make sure that work is good quality and materials are correctly installed...

He was very presentable. My husband really appreciate him. He was knowledgeable and very kind. At that time, he knew that my husband was going to have our 6-year-old grandson and it was on a holiday and so he also brought his 6-year-old grandson so that they would have somebody to collaborate with, it was very nice. He was a very, very nice man. When we contacted him, he was very quick to respond. He called the same day that I called him. We had set up the appointment within a week and he actually came after a few days. He was very responsive and punctual. The price that he quoted us was reasonable. We would surely contact him to have the work done.
Description of Work: William McMahon came to our house and gave us a rough estimate as to what things would cost when we have something done. He gave us a quote for the repair of the ceiling. He didn't charge us anything because he only gave us an estimate.

Overall, very satisfied with the work they did and the price. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: I had all top 5 guys on Angie's list stop by for a quote. Bill was by far the most reasonable. Master bedroom wall had some 2x4 studs that needed to be replaced. The damage was more extensive than expected. a good portion of the wall had to be reframed and re-dry walled...in the process, a roof leak was found. They took care of the leak, replaced rotten ply wood on the roof and put a small roof between chimney and roof to avoid more water problems. Bill's crew were punctual and did a neat job. The cleaned up after themselves and behaved very professionally. I would hire them

Mr. McMahon had a very, very high rating for construction, and the man forgot to come to his appointment. I called him, and he came out later, took all kinds of picture, he did all kinds of diagrams, and he was very professional. He said he would send me an estimate by email, and I never heard from him. A week later I called him, he told me he completely forgot about me. He gave me a quick fix-to-do on the phone, and I said no thank you. I did not have a really good feeling about him. As a person, he seemed very nice, but he did not seem to have any customer service interest for me. So, I will not recommend him. The verbal interaction and his personal behavior were very good. His efficiency, punctuality, and pricing were very bad. That interaction was the worst because there was no follow-up. I was just very disappointed.

Mr. McMahon came to my house the same day I called to look at the problem - a roof leak after a recent storm. I could tell he was very experienced. He was doing an extended job for one of my neighbors. After determining that the situation was not urgent, he scheduled the job a couple of weeks out, and called the day before to confirm. He came on time, with two workers, and kept me informed of their progress. Although they couldn't find a specific leak by pulling up shingles, they replaced caulk around the chimney, skylights, and vents. He offered to return if the problem continued. It took about half a day. I consider this to be a small nuisance job. I had previously tried to get a roofer I had used on another building to look at it, but he never showed. Mr. McMahon was willing to take care of the small problem, and was very honest about what needed to be done. Some probably would have tried to make a bigger job of it. I would certainly use him in the future, and recommend him highly.

The owner came out to give an estimate. Called with a price the next day. We agreed to start the work and two workers came out to do the work. We checked on their efficiency and quality of work as they were doing the job. It was done well and in a timely manner. They returned to finish the antenna when the base we had ordered arrived. We were pleased with their professionalism..

Provided competitive estimate promptly. He had two excellent guys working for him who removed old barn roof and framed and completed a new one efficiently and with skill. McMahon supervised as needed. Final aspects of job (laying shingles, gutters, and painting experienced some weather-related delays but throughout McMahon was in touch via email. Very satisfied with work!

The finished product is exactly what we wanted. Craftsmanship is beautiful. The only problem was that the carpenter dragged a cardboard box across our freshly-finished hardwood floor and scuffed the finish up. The scuffs are not deep, so we chose to consider it accelerated aging instead of damage!
