Mark and his crew were punctual, professional and tidy. Showed up when they said they would, did what we agreed to, explained the process and answered all questions we had. We would definitely hire again and could not ask for more of a contractor. Definitely 5 stars.

House was built in 1890, 2800 SF, 3 bed room 2 bath and heating and cooling it was a struggle. I had enough, enough of wasting my money on fuel(350 gallons + a month), pellets (2 pellet stoves), and trying to keep the thermostat set on 78-80 degrees in hopes it would be 64 degrees upstairs where my kids, and newborn sleep. I entered all my information into Home Advisor(Angi) and I found Mark Reed and his company on this website. I then read all the reviews this company had, then read the reviews on the other companies the website recommended. I found that Mark and his crew were best suited for the undertaking that was about to take place in my home. Mark and his son Gary met me at my house within a couple days and we spent 3 hours walking my home, studying the problems and climbing in the attic. I received a quote from Mark in person and I asked them to start as soon as possible. The crew was great, kept a clean work space and understanding about all my concerns of them working in the house at the same time my family and I were living there. The project took over 2 weeks to complete, and as the project was nearing the end I could feel the changes almost immediately. I could walk up the stairs and it was the same temp though out the house, even though it was 20 degrees outside. All my thermal barriers were met, and exceeded. Out with all the old insulation(and much more), and in with all new blown-in -R60! The crew exceeded my expectations, and Mark was there on and off checking in. While I was at work, I received pictures and updates throughout the day and the communication was nice. Even with the crews in my house working for the month of February I burned over 90 less gallons of fuel at month. That was with over a week and half of no insulation in the attic at all, holes in my walls, a hole in my gable end for access, crew guys in and out all day, and outside temperatures between 12*-31* degrees. I would contract with The Climate Chief again. I hope this helps the next person looking to save money long term, and I hope everyone has the same blessed experience that my family and I had as well.

The climate chief was very prompt to respond to our inquiry. Gary came out the next day, and took a look at our house and explained things throughly. We told him our budget, and that while we understood there were more areas for improvement than our budget allowed, he worked with us to assess and confirm what the most pressing issue was, the attic insulation. He also looked at other points in the house by my request in order to plan for potential future jobs. His crew came shortly after, and were very respectful to adhere to COVID protocols. Our upstairs is now much warmer! We are happy with the services rendered.

This is aa A++ professional. Gary and his crew are extraordinary. They did a phenomenal job completing the work and communicating throughout the project. They are hard working and Gary goes above and beyond to ensure quality and follows up to make sure we are totally satisfied. He was very accommodating working with us on ideas and suggestions. They would clean up daily and always asked for permission to leave equipment out or they would move it out of our way. When they first engaged the machine (blower/fan) to measure the air flow throughout the home - it was like being in a wind tunnel. You could actually hear and feel the air movement. Gary actually sectioned off our home to determine exactly what each area needed. The repairs that were done were obvious when they retested and we are already seeing a difference in our energy bills. I cannot say enough about Gary and his crew - they were professional as well as being personable. I have already recommended The Climate Chief to neighbors and co-workers. I absolutely will hire again.

This took a lot longer than expected. Communication was very poor. Left messages. Did not get back to me for days. When they did, they did not answer or address issues. Also stated they would a look into checking my soffits for free. Did not hear back. I feel once they got the sale I was basically do with.

The company worked closely with us to develop a proper work scope and pricing. The work was performed in a professional and satisfactory manner and was completed on schedule. They took care to keep dirt and debris out of the house and throughly cleaned up at the end of each day and at the job completion. After the work was completed no ice dams were experienced during the winter season (note: the winter of 2015/2016 was very mild - hopefully future winters will be ice dam free - if not this post may be updated) On 03/08/2016 I wrote a more positive review. This company did extensive roof insulation/ventilation remediation which they said would essentially eliminate our ice dam problems. However, unlike the 2016 winter with almost no snow and warmer temperatures, and now that we have finally had a significant snow, ice dams 2 to 3 inches thick plus long icicles are back! It appears we spent many thousands of dollars for a fix that is not working. Very disappointed and I can no longer recommend this company nor would I hire again.

I called and left messages for The Climate Chief three times between August 19th and 26th. They never returned any of my calls. At my husband's suggestion I sent them a message over Angie's List on August 28th. The Climate Chief is unresponsive and therefore, unprofessional. They are not interested in cultivating new business. After my third call and Angie's List message went unacknowledged, we selected a new provider from the approved NYSERDA list. My husband sent A Johnson Plumbing and Heating a message through Angie's List at approximately 7pm on a Monday night. They responded within the hour saying that they would call me the following day. Sure enough the following day at 9am they called and we scheduled our assessment. Still no word from Climate Chief.... I can only assume that if they are this lackadaisical about returning phone calls, they are equally so at performing their work. We will never call them again and I hope you don't either! There are contractors out there who actually want your work!
Description of Work: My husband and I were approved through NYSERDA to conduct a home energy assessment. Once approved, you have a limited amount of time to select an approved contractor, such as The Climate Chief, and conduct the assessment. The Climate Chief never returned a single call or email and we were forced to select another provider to conduct the assessment.

I am an architect, builder, and building owner. I found Climate Chief on Angies List under foam insulation providers. They are listed 5th by Reviews/Grade in the area. I requested a cost estimate to insulate the basement apartment of my building under construction. I explained the work thoroughly to the woman on the phone and asked if they perform that type of work. She said they did and we scheduled a time for someone to come out and give an estimate. Gary Reed showed up to meet with my contractor on site. Mr. Reed politely told my contractor that they do not do that type of work. They tell people how to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. I did not need that service. Apparently they only provide consulting services not construction services. He gave a rough estimate of what it would cost to do foam insulation under the floor area of a small 10x10 room. His estimate of $1600 was three times the cost estimates of two other bids we received. I do not know why their ad says "The Climate Chief performs home energy-saving services such as adding home insulation..." if they do not actually provide that service. Furthermore, I don't know why they are listed as a construction provider on Angies List if they only consult. Unfortunately, poor communication equals a total waste of time for everyone. Note to Climate Chief: Please provide a more clear explanation of your services in your ad and on your website.

Okay, they performed the audit I was not overly impressed in that we had some known leaks (a door to a garage for example). I've never had one of these before but seems like there should be a better way to find leaks than walking around with a device that puts out smoke. Did find a defect in a vent that they fixed (for about $200)

Our experience with Climate Chief was excellent. We received 5 bids from 5 different contractors, and two energy audits (including one from Climate Chief). By far the most thoughtful, thorough, and well explained bid came from Climate Chief. Gary went to great lengths to understand our home, our needs, desires and plans. He was extremely knowledgeable in the field of building science and could explain in easy terms how the plan they prepared would work from a scientific perspective. In addition, he laid out at least 3 different options for proceeding that would provide different cost and performance trade-offs and was always patient and available to discuss the different benefits of each approach. They were never pushy, always available via phone or email and highly professional. Once it came time to perform the work the crew of Climate Chief executed their job with the utmost professionalism. Always punctual, polite and respectful of our space. Everyday they cleaned up after themselves and made sure to secure our space with protective coverings so that nothing was damaged or affected by construction debris/dust. There were several items that came up during the job that needed adjusting and they made the changes quickly and without adding to the original bid. In addition, they took it upon themselves to let us know of some other maintenance issues they saw with our home that we appreciated knowing about. The job foreman also did a thorough inspection of the work at the end and found some items that were not tied up as well as he expected so he made sure that all remaining punch list items were performed by the crew. We noted this and appreciated it. The final work was more than we could have hoped for. It looks great, and performed better than we expected. We saw a 40% reduction in our heating costs from the insulation project so far this winter. Our comfort level has increased dramatically. We expect this project to pay for itself in savings in as little as 7 years. We would not hesitate to recommend The Climate Chief to anyone and look forward to working with them again.
Description of Work: Climate Chief added AirKrete Insulation to the attic and basement, cellulose insulation to a cathedral ceiling, and rigid foam insulation to the attic. Lastly, they installed attic windows to seal up former gable vents.

They really listen to the customer and what they want in a final product. They are always checking in with you on what you want or any concerns you have. If there are any problems, they correct them right away. They are very knowledgeable about their products. They take care of the smaller things during the job also. I have had other experiences with contractors, and this company is great to deal with.
Description of Work: They had placed foam insulation in my crawl space of my add on room. They insulated the floor, duct work, and lined the wall of the crawl space with thick tear resistant material to reduce humidity. They replaced the dryer vent also.
