Architectural drawings and permits were applied for at the town hall by the company. Most of the work was done by a company crew; some of the work was done by "specialists" (i.e. drywall, gutters, etc) The company had a dumpster and a "pod" container placed in the backyard a few days before starting. The garage contents were moved into the pod by the crew on the first day; The garage roof was removed down to the four walls (rafters, joists, and all) over the next two days. The walls were straightened, new trusses installed, new sheathing, electrical outlets, garage door, shingles, attic access hatch door (and new garage (storage) attic !) and soffits. When they found evidence of dry rot....repairs were made. As soon as the trusses were up and the electrical work done, the insulation guys came within two days, and the drywall installers about a day later. All together, about three weeks of work. The workers arrived at about 8 AM, and worked till 5 PM with a lunch break and coffee breaks here and there. They re-installed my 2 year-old garage door opener, my just-bought garage ceiling and outside lights, painted the new ceiling and garage walls, and left the property "broom clean" at the end. The electrical and building inspectors checked things out within a day of all pertinent work being finished. The POD contents were replaced by myself (because of the number of shelves in the garage and the new storage attic) and the POD was gone about a week later. A tiered payment payment plan was agreed to, beforehand. The crew was very efficient, and cordial. I found no issues to complain about.
Description of Work: I had two projects: 1) A new roof for my garage, and 2) New soffits and gutters all around the house. The garage roof was damaged during the November '14 snowstorm. I had been having attic ventilation (soffit) problems for a number of years..... So I had that done, too.

Was very flexible. We had 4 weeks to complete all the work before we moved in. Even with our tight schedule they were able to complete adders to the projects by due date.
Description of Work: Remodel kitchen, two full baths, and finish basement.

Terrible, start to finish, again, in our opinion. They acted irrationally throughout the entire process, in our opinion. They were non-communicative, verbally combative, made a thousand excuses as to why something could not be done as bidded, they were constantly demanding more money, and constantly making threats to stop work, in our opinion. In the end, they appeared to have abandoned the job site taking all tools and their sign about March 1, 2014. They sent us letters saying they will get back to us on our request for mediation/arbitration, so we did not sue for breach of contract. Instead they turned around and put a Mechanic?s Lien on my husband?s father?s property, served papers at my Children?s Easter Egg Hunt, and moved to foreclose on the family property. This, in spite of the fact, that we paid all milestone payments on-time or early ($200,000), only disputing the last payment request which was only verbal and without an invoice. They had also appeared to have abandoned the job-site. We ended in arbitration, almost 9 months later. Even though we had asked them to arbitrate or mediate right at the point the dispute started. Q&M accused us of breaching the contract so they could collect on a "time and materials" basis, accused us of delaying the selections on the project, claimed our architect?s drawings were insufficient even though their principle is an associate architect and accepted the drawings at bid, and accused us of purposefully hindering their progress. Why we would do that is anybody?s guess. We had plans for family dinners in the house that Christmas! Legally, we were found to have done none of the things they accused us of. Even found us within our rights to withhold the last payment request in that it lacked an invoice. Yet, he did inexplicably award them financially. End of the day, we paid the award & excessive lawyers fees to defend ourselves. We are close to finishing our home and we will have many happy times there. I write this so maybe someone else will avoid the immense heartache we endured. There are great contractors out there with much better customer service, those that are not abusive in the Mechanic?s Lien Law, those that produce clear and accurate invoices, and those that can be trusted. Q & M Contracting, in our opinion and based on our personal experience, is not one of those contractors. Work was adequate (not great) when performed. From a customer service standpoint and a financial dealings standpoint they are a nightmare, in our opinion.
Description of Work: We contracted with Q&M Contracting to build our home. The principal of the company is William Quinn. He is employed full-time as an Associate Architect with the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, as listed on the City of Buffalo directory. We admittedly made many mistakes, such as only considering one bid, not using a business accredited by the BBB, we gave our contracts from the lawyer only a passing glance, and set-up a milestone front-end loaded contract. We did this because we trusted them completely and I had just spent a year with my ailing father who passed away. We were going on emotion & trust, not thought. My husband owns a commercial HVAC business. We are not dumb (maybe yes), we were very trusting. After close to one year from the signing of the contract, we still only had a shell of a building. No flooring, no plumbing fixtures, no finished electrical, and no cabinetry. The work place, in our opinion, was an absolute pigsty, despite us asking for a dumpster and some type of cleanliness.
