+ -1 more.I had no heat in the house and Jim came over to check the furnace. It was found that I needed a blower motor. I realize that it was an emergency service call but I didn't appreciate being charged $400.00 for a $100.00 part. This company installed the furnace and has serviced it in the past. I guess Jim wanted to buy his wife a nice Christmas gift. Very disappointing to be taken advantage of in this way.

They gave me two estimates; one to replace the air conditioner which was about $2200 and another quote about $4000 to replace the furnace as well . They were on time. They really tried to save the air conditioner but it couldn’t be saved.

Description of Work: Air conditioning unit died in the middle of the night. Called thme at 7:30 am and explained the problem. Person on the phone was curteous and helpful. A servie call was entered. By 10:00 am the same morning he arrived and the problem was fixed within 1/2 hours. He explianed the problem and provided estimate to replace a/c and furnace to accomodate the addtion on the house.

+ -1 moreNot good at all. Complained to provider after workers left my house about not being pleased with the behavior of the workers and the condition my house was left in. Provider stated that no one had ever complained in the pass and that he would speak with the workers also on 5/17/2013 the date of service and my complaint , provider stated that on 5/20/2013 he would be contacting me with free offers (services) in the near future. As of 6/7/2013 still waiting for call from provider.
Description of Work: Provider was late. Upon arriving, workers were loud and unprofessional. Opened up packages of my personal paper towels without asking. Found this out when i enter my basement where A/C was installed. Basement was left with pieces of metal, wood. wiring and a lot of wood dust. Cigarette butts was left in driveway.

+ -1 moreHired for furnace installation for our home. They brought in the worng furnace but not a big deal, mistakes happen and they corrected the mistake quickly. The employees that did the installation were pleasand and polite. Took several hours to get the old furnace out. I was told that someone would be picking up the old furnace in about an hour after a few phone calls they finally came 4 hours later. Left a oil spill in our driveway. The secretary who answers the phone inthe office was rude when I reqeusted an estimate of what time they would arriving for the installation of the furnace she was clearly annoyed. There is nothing like getting a question back to your simple question. I could hear her tsk & sigh then asked me...didn't they tell you when youre asked for the work to be done? Since they were reasonably priced with the furnace install. I requested an estimate for the cold air returns in another house we are in the process of selling. The owner came to do the estimate, he seemed not to be all that interested, was barely there but 5 minutes. Told me it would be at least 1500.00 but would call me with a more accurate price in 2 hours....that was weeks ago, did not hear back from them at all.

+ -1 moreEverything went smoothly. Our contractor set up the estimate with Jim O'Donnell. Installation was professional and on time. No complaints and almost a year later we're happy with our heating/cooling choice.
Description of Work: We had 2 new furnaces and central air and upstairs ductwork installed. The basement furnace is a large Lennox, 95% efficient model which heats all of the downstairs. Because we were adding a new addition on to the back of our house (approx. 28' x 14', 2 stories), Jim suggested a separate small furnace/blower above one of the new bedrooms upstairs to heat and cool the upstairs. Since we were getting central air installed as well, he felt a small upstairs unit used mainly as a blower for the A/C would be ideal. I'm glad we took his advice. Last summer was very hot and having the A/C blown through the upstairs vents we were very comfortable all summer. I know many people who have the A/C blown up from the downstairs to the upstairs and the upstairs never really cools down. Because cool air falls, the downstairs was always comfortable as well (2 to 3 degrees warmer than upstairs). Conversely, warm air rises so the downstairs furnace is the workhorse during the winter with the upstairs (I keep the upstairs thermostat several degrees below the downstairs) only kicking on a fraction of the downstairs unit. Our latest gas bill (Jan. 2013) was $107.00, about half what we used to pay during the winter months with our old basement furnace that heated the house before our addition. So even though is was more expensive up-front, I'm glad we went with their suggestion and have no complaints.

+ -1 moreAn excellent customer experience from beginning to end. I am extremely satisfied with the overall value package (price, quality, & service). I selected O'Donnell partly due to the reviews on Angies List but mostly due to the word-of-mouth reviews from homeowners in my neighborhood. Jim showed up to quote the job on a Thursday and the unit was installed the following Saturday (Memorial Day Weekend). I received quotes from several HVAC companies in the Metro-Buffalo area for comparable A/C models however O'Donnell was the most competitive in terms of price, warranty, financing terms, and availability as a whole. JIm and his crew were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The install took approximately 3-4 hours and they cleaned up quite well - as if they were never there. They also took the time to review operating and maintenance procedures for the new unit. I will continue to use O'Donnell for all of my future HVAC needs.

+ -1 moreIt was excellent overall. The installers were great and clean and neat and had people haul out the old furnace next day. They also installed a new digital thermostat and the house is a steady 68 degrees. My only hesitation was the price because the last time when we had two new York furnaces installed we paid $2000 for both. That's the only reason I rate them a C on price. It was a bit of a shock. I didn't really have time to get estimates in the middle of winter all over the place but O' Donnell's was excellent and close to home.
Description of Work: Motor inducer went on old York furnace which was 17 years old. Jim O'Donnell came himself and explained that to replace the motor would be $500 and the better option would be to replace the furnace; either 80% efficient at $1500 or $2500 for a 94 % efficient Lennox furnace. The latter also came with $250 rebate from National Fuel. So, I talked it over with my wife and we chose the last option. It was installed the next day in approximately 4 hours.

+ -1 moreTheir commercial is very true when it says "when you call O'Donnell, you get O'Donnell". Mr. O'Donnell came on July 13 to give us an estimate for replacing our 20+ year old furnace/ac unit. He quoted us on two 95% efficient models. Jim was prompt, professional and very friendly. After receiving one other quote, we decided to have O'Donnell do the work and install the more expensive model. I called last Monday 8/8/11 and scheduled to job for today 8/15/11 between 8:30 and 9:00 am. At 8:32 am I received a call that they were just a few minutes from our house. The installation technicians were very professional, friendly, efficient and neat. The job was completed about 11:50 am and the air conditioner is now running. Our old furnace/ac unit ran fine but was old and inefficient so it was time for an upgrade. We are very pleased with O'Donnell from start to finish and would recommend them to anyone needing a new furnace. Thank you O'Donnell Heating & Cooling - you were great!!

+ -1 moreThe entire installation took a single day. O'Donnell added in the air conditioning unit, including a side-vent. At first I was upset at the side vent, but the owner came by and walked me through the entire reason for it. I had an old, unlined brick chimney, and all the moist exhaust from the AC condenser would have damaged it and caused some very expensive problems for me down the road. This was a particular issue since all my other mechanicals that were using the chimney (furnace, NG hot water tank) were HE models and would not produce enough heat to dry the brick out fully, leading to the breakdown of the bricks. Once I understood that I was actually very thankful that O'Donnell performed the work in the way that they did, as they could have very easily just plumbed the AC vent out the chimney and I would have not known about the problems until years later. It's rare to have such thoughtful service, and the fact that the owner was willing to patiently explain this to me was a big Plus. Since we had that work done we have moved, and the AC helped the house sell at a big profit for us. O'Donnell has since done some minor work on our new house's furnace, and once it's time to replace it, we will be calling them back again.
