MAC Services

One of the things that I appreciate most about Mark and his company, MAC Services, is their honest, no nonsense approach. Unlike other landscaping companies I've interviewed, I felt immediately at ease with Mark; he's a stand up guy who provided clear and specific recommendations regarding what was required, once we outlined our needs. Furthermore, he delivered on all that he said he would. The work that he and his team have done, thus far, has been excellent; everything has been addressed with care, efficiency and professionalism. Companies like his are exceptions in today's environment and I'd highly recommend the work that they do. As a matter of fact, MAC Services is also highly likely to get my snow plowing contract as a result of what we've experienced to this point. The arborvitaes they purchased and planted look fantastic, and rather than tell us what the obstacles to the job were (like other companies we spoke with), Mark provided a "can do" mindset which I found incredibly refreshing. In short, a great group of guys who do excellent work, for a reasonable price. I'm not sure how much more a person could ask for.

The contract read that the work was to be done within two weeks. But the spring was very wet and the work was postponed by a week . Mark was very good about keeping us informed by phone as to the weather problems. When they did arrive they came with a crew of four. Most delightful bunch of guys. Our Black Lab loved them. They quickly removed the lilac bushes and cleaned up the front yard. and then they moved to the back. We had a bed of English ivy that had gotten out of control that they removed that along with the ornamental grass. The back beds were cleaned and the plants that needed it were trimmed. The next day they came back with a load of dirt and reseeded out front lawn. The dog had created barren spots in the backyard that we were expecting just to let it grow in. They topdressed those spots and seeded them too. No extra charge. The nursery that was furnishing the rose bushes did not have them in stock. Mark came when they were available and planted them. The Owner Mark Caligan was extremely personable and extremely knowledgeable. He was very open to any ideas or changes that we had. And he offered his own ideas for us to accept or reject. We loved working with Mark.

I have had both good and bad experiences with all kinds of contractors, unfortunately more bad than good, but my experience with MAC services was really excellent and made me realize there are still some top firms out there. They are hard to find,and I am thankful I found MAC and they were able to do this work. What really impressed me about MAC Services was their genuine interest in what I needed done and the good communication we had. Mark and the crew he had with him (Anthony and Justin) seemed to treat this job as if it was for their own property. This is really rare because I have experienced and heard cases where the customer is really just another job, another number, to rush through as fast as possible and move onto next job. I didnt't feel that with MAC Services. They took care in getting the work done right and that is what I was looking for. Mark and his team were friendly, professional, and always had my interests and needs in mind. They certainly worked hard to get everything done technically correct and I was pleased with the many improvements they made to my yard. The no maintenace river rock addition on the side of the house came out beautiful. They did not skimp either on the rock. They laid in a thick bed with high quality weed prevention fabic below the rock. What an improvement and now it is pretty much maintenace free.The bed is so stable,I can put a ladder on it if I need to get onto the roof. The window well jobs were first rate too. They also included fabric and river rock. They feel very securely fixed as well. The grading job was much work, but unlike other proposals calling for 4-5 yars of soil, we really needed more and MAC was the one firm that made the exact right call on quantity of soil needed. They graded and blended the soil so well and I really needed this to help prevent water from moving toward the foundation. The grading job MAC did really helped divert water to the drainage zone. Great job!. All seeded now and grass is growing nicely. Even how MAC Services seeded the soil was with care and attention to detail. They brought in sufficient seed and did a very thorough job. Anthony and Justin worked h****** this job and were always polite and courteous to me as was Mark. Anthony has a true talent for landscape design and when you couple his and Mark's ideas and skills, things come out looking quite nice! The yard really needed some additional shrubs, and MAC kindly pointed that out and is correct, but for now I just wanted the corner done and they did a super job. They added a good amount of topsoil, premium soil was used, and topped it off with a really high quality black mulch. Anthony took great care in the installation of the vinyl edging. It is installed properly, very securely, and is a high quality vinyl edging. During October and November, we had some heavy rain and very high wind storms. Everything held up nicely, thanks to MAC's quality workmanship and secure planting. Keep in mind I had contacted several landscape firms during the summer and early fall. Some were out of sight on price and clearly didnt want the work. Others just never showed up to give me a proposal. Another firm gave a good proposal but said a large crew with power equipment would do all of this in one day. That may sound good, but even I knew this was no one day job and I didn't want it rushed like that. MAC Services was dfferent in many positive ways. Before work started, Mark explained the work scope and reviewed the proposal with me in careful detail. What I like about Mark was I felt I could trust him and felt secure in hiring MAC Services. Thankfully, my impressions of Mark and his team held true. They were customer focused, communicative, understanding, and honest! They did excellent work. Honesty and having a firm you can trust is not easy to find imo. Their price wasn't the highest or lowest, but I can say was definitely fair and in this case, certainly worth every penny. 5+ Stars! I contracted them for driveway snow removal. We are always the LAST ones done of all of our neighbors so far this season. We had a storm yesterday morning. We were not plowed and I could not get out of my driveway. I called Mark yesterday around noon to make sure we were not accidentally missed. He told me that they were out plowing and would be by later. I called MAC services back at 5:30 pm last night and got a voice mail stating that they were still plowing. I left my address to assure that we were not missed. It is now 8am the NEXT DAY and we are STILL not plowed. I left yet another voicemail this morning (now the voice mail says that he cannot answer the phone) and I cannot get to work because I cannot get out of my driveway!! I also sent an email. No response.

I have used Mark's company for the last 2.5 years. He was done a great job. This last year he did the lawn cutting weekly and final hedging and clean up of my house front and backyard. There were no issues and he is a very reliable person. The year before he planted new bushes and cypresses. A couple of bushes died and he replaced and planted them without charge. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.

As for the lawn care, we were very pleased. We never had a problem with our summer services. The plowing on the other hand, was dismal. The first year they would often come late in the afternoon, and I had to repeatedly call to remind them that we needed to get out of the driveway by 8am. When I called Mark would answer quickly, and for a little while it would be better... until it wasn't. Then we had to call again to get the service we needed. They would also rarely shovel. I paid $200 extra a year for the sidewalks and they were barely kept walkable. The next year I rented out the property, and my mom got sick, so even though they were annoying we decided to sign up another season because it was easier to send a check than try to find someone new. The plowing either wouldn't happen or would take place at 6 at night. I knew there was a 3in minimum before they were supposed to plow, but even when it was far past that, they wouldn't come. The tenants had multiple times they were stuck in the driveway. They also started to pile up the snow in front of one of the garage bays and then said they couldn't move it out of the way. I had to go and shovel a small mountain by hand. I know there was a lot of snow last year, but they did not fulfill their contract. I felt like I had wasted my money. Needless to say we switched plowing services and have been very pleased with the new company. We will be having them do our lawn care too. I would not recommend MAC services for snowplowing, but if you just need your grass cut they do a good job with that.

Pretty well, I had to call and remind them to come, they seem to have forgotten, but a crew of two young men did come the day I called. I agreed to a certain rate per man hour with owner Mark. They charged me a flat $600 even though the hours they spent times the rate they quoted would have been about 20% less. The work they did was acceptable ( they had to use my ladder for the limbs, they didn't bring one) If you use them I would recommend getting detailed estimate of what is to be done and how much will be charged. They didn't have to haul away any debris since i had a place for it. I think the price was a bit high, all things considered.

The work was satisfactory, but not totally professional. For instance, they needed to borrow my ladder and I had to give them snacks to eat (no biggie). Mark quoted me $35/man-hour and estimated 16 hours of work which would come to $560. The thing is, 2 guys were here from 1 to 7 pm so total 12 man hours, should be about $420. They charged me $600, and said it really came to more than that, but that was all their boss would let them charge me because of what he quoted. If they would have charged me as quoted, i would have hired them again, but not after i feel i was overcharged.

We have a lot of planted beds and landscaped areas throughout our property. We had two other companies quote the job and hired them ( one after the other) and NEITHER showed up when promised. Over the years we have had several companies in here and none have been reliable. They don't show up, they don't call..it's maddening. Mark is a different kind of business owner. He's honest and prompt and thorough and he and his employees are hard working and respectful of their clients and their client's property. I think I have found my guy ! Only wish I would have found him years ago! Sincere thanks to him and his crew for the wonderful job they did. Highly recommend.

Excellent service. Our backyard looked horrible due to all the shade it gets. After Mark and his son Anthony and their employees finished installing the beautiful new sod, it looked like a completely different yard. We literally could not believe It. Mark and his employees are professional and friendly. Meticulous high quality service at a fair price. We will use them again.

He was always on time and very responsive. They evaluated my yard and gave me a great advise, were very helpful and quick in doing the work. Excellent services. Very reasonable prices.

His crew did a great job. They came daily for 4 days. They removed all the weeds and vines. Several bushes and a couple trees were trimmed. Two overgrown cypresses about 11 feet tall that had fallen down from the storms were cut and removed. Four new plants were placed to make the landscape more appealing. Overall, Mark, his son, and other members did a fantastic job. I am still using them for the weekly lawn cutting as well. I definitely recommend him to anyone.

Two younger gents showed up to my new property to perform an 8 hour yard clean up and gutter clean out. The weather was 32 degrees and raining, I have 1 acre of tree lined and fully landscaped property. I could not believe what they did in 8 hours, in probably the worst weather to be outside in. My gutters were spotless and shockingly there were no leaves at all in the yard. I did however pay an additional 35.00 for removal as the normal free dumps for leaves are closed in the winter. Overall great work, will have them back in spring to get my landscaping back in order for the summer.

Hydrangeas were planted but they dug the holes just as big as the pot and just plunked them in the ground. Not being gardeners they did not realize that when planting nursery items the hole must be 2 to 3 times the width of the pot and should be planted above ground level. Also I marked out where they were to be planted and they were not in a line with each other. I called to have them dug up again but never received a response When the one birch stump was ground out they just left the sawdust where it landed. I had to go out and clean up and rake into hole. They did excellent work previously but I was disappointed this time. I would use their services again but would be very specific as to what was to be done.

I purchased the big deal. The service worked out fine. I paid an additional $300 to the $199 big deal because they weren't able to get everything done in the time frame allotted. I would recommend them. They did good work. Probably within a week they came out to look at what I needed done and then within two weeks they came out and started. They did good work.

I was disappointed. They wasted a lot of time. I gave them specific instructions and they didn’t follow it. There were three men here, one was a chain-smoker and worked with one hand the entire time. They wasted half an hour putting gasoline into the machines. They were very inefficient. I specifically brought them here for weeding and asked if they could trim some trees after they were done. They didn’t finish the weeding and instead began trimming bushed that I didn’t ask them to trim.

i have had MAC Services help with spring and fall yard work and was very pleased with their work. i thought i would also ask them for help with snow removal. the service was poor and did not work out for me. i need someone who is able to come and get my driveway cleaned out so i can get to work in the morning and they were not able to do that. i called and cancelled my service with them and am still waiting for my check to be returned. i am very disappointed because they did such a good job with yard work .

It wasn't that great and I would not use their services again. They sent two boys out and I wasn't able to supervise them in the garden. I was busy when they came out. They just preceded to hack everything with a big saw thing, whatever you call that. I'm a gardener so I blame myself for not being here because I should have supervised them more closely but I wasn't able to the day they came. They were here enough time and did what they should have done. Maybe they didn't understand my directions when I said, you need to clear this down a little. If they were gardeners, I think they would have known that you shouldn't take a heads trimmer. I used to have a very nice tall Holly bush out there and now I don't. I couldn't look at it. They did a lot of digging so I can't say that they didn't do what they were supposed to do, they did because I told them to take out a lot of this and move them. They were out there enough hours and did physical work. I don;t think that they were really that trained in garden work because you would not have taken big hedge clippers and just whack the hedges all the way. That's all right, they'll grow but I wouldn't call the service again. It's too bad. They did the heavy work that I couldn't do but they also should have known better about certain things. They did stick to everything they said. They were young boys that came out. He was supposed to come in September but they didn't.

I like these guys. They're honest, hard working folks who seem to really care about the work they do. I already hired them a second time to trim some larger trees. Took a little longer than I thought it would, but the price was reasonable and I value the quality of the work. By the way, I am not a relative and MAC was the first purchase I made via Angies list. Can't go wrong with MAC. They have the expertise and tools to do the job right.

I purchased an Angie's List "special deal" and was clearly not the only one who did, as they were very busy. I told them I was not in a big rush and agreed to contact them in a few weeks. When I called back, they came right out to see what I wanted done. When I got home from work the next day it was perfect! Thanks so much! I will be contacting them again in the spring for more landscaping work.

Anthony, the owners son, greeted me with warmth and a firm hand shake. We reviewed the work I had outlined in priority order. Since I did not know how tough it would be to remove the bushes I put a priority to each item so if the time ran out before the jobs they did the work I most wanted done. I am on a fixed budget so getting done what my priorities were was important to me. They finished it all and asked if there was anything else they could do. We discussed what I might schedule in the spring and about how long it would take them so I can budget ahead. I was very satisfied with their professionalism, the speed and that they cleaned up everything after themselves. I will definitely schedule more work with this company in the future.

The three people that did the job were very motivated to complete the work at a high level of quality. They cut back perennials and pulled all the weeds in between the flowers. The flower bed was totally ready for winter and I expect it to look wonderful in the spring. They also edged all my flower beds and trimmed around tress. The yard looked better than usual. I plan to have them help in the Spring as well. I will admit that I was worried after I read the reviews because I bought the deal on my phone prior to reading them, but my experience was all good with MAC services.

We were so happy with the job they did that we asked them to come back to level and lay more river rock in a patio area near our back door. They put in edging alongside a walkway and placed weed barrier before placing the stone. They did the original job on a Friday and came back on Monday to do the second job. I have asked them to come back next month to remove privet hedges in my front yard. Mark came to review what I needed; he sent Anthony (his son) and Zack to complete the job. We were very impressed by the work ethic these two young men displayed. They never stopped except for lunch. Both were very polite and professional. They were also very attentive to every detail of the job. The areas of the yard they worked on look beautiful now. I wish I had taken before and after photos.

I was happy with the results but because I wasn't notified that they were coming on that day I wasn't home and several plants were removed without my input.
