The estimate was clear, concise and reasonable. The service performed was beyond expectation. They arrived when they said that they would, worked diligently throughout the course of their time in my house. Provided insight into some other side issues that I had with my plumbing, in a few case since the issues were minor they just took care of the problem. The job was finished faster than originally thought, which was great since we expected to be without water for a day. When finally taking a look at what was left behind the difference between what we had and what they gave us was astonishing. The pipes are in a clean and organized fashion, there there are as few joints and possible, and even the gaps between the hot and cold water runs are consistent and make sense. We are very pleased and will only use there services for plumbing work in the future.
Description of Work: We had our galvanized pipes in our basement replaced with copper.

I was remodeling my kitchen and had to do some minor plumbing alterations to fix some faulty piping. I did the work myself but had issues with 2 of the soldiering joints holding water, so i called John Huck Plubming to fix the 2 joints and replace 1 valve in the basement while I went out of town for work. This would be less than 1 hour's work for Huck. The plumber who came took my brand new 1/4 turn sink valves and replaced them with lower quality multi-turn valves. Not what I wanted or asked for. He fixed the joints I asked for and replaced the basement valve I asked for and was in and out in just under 1 hour. He still charged $260 for less than 1 hour's work on exposed water line piping plus parts to include the valves I did not want or need. He surely wasn't trying to recoup costs for driving to my house as it is only a few blocks (and gt;1/2 mile) away from their office! Most lawyers don't even charge that much for an hour's work even if they are firm partners! The work they do is pretty good, but their labor prices are outrageous!
Description of Work: Requested - repair 2 faulty solder joints and replace 1 waterline valve. Performed - repair 2 faulty solder joints and replace 3 water valves.

I had a problem with a leaky water tank so I contacted John Huck Inc. They sent a plumber out to meet me right when I got home from work. He examined the water tank and surrounding area. He told me that I would need a new water tank. He also discovered a leak in the basement that I had not noticed before. He was quickly able to determine that the leak was coming from my kitchen area. He removed a panel on my kitchen wall to find the source of the problem. He gave me an estimate of $1,000 to fix the leak and replace the water tank. We set up an appointment for noon the next day. The plumber returned the next day. He worked from approximately noon to 4:30 pm. He also offered to fix my bathroom toilet and sink. I was have some problems with both the sink and the tiolet. I agreed to let him to do this work as well. I found the plumber to be a very kind and decent person. He worked hard and was able to a get the job done!
Description of Work: He installed new hot water tank. He opened a small area in my kitchen wall to repair cold 3/4 riser copper line and then he closed the wall. He rebuilt toilet and did some minor repairs on the bathroom sink.

Peter arrived at 3:15 in the afternoon. We went to the basement and I showed him the problems. He explained what needed to be done with the hot water heater and the gas line to it. At some point in the past the gas line had been bent to fit the space the previous water tank was occupying. The old tank was also high profile and didn't allow adequate vent space. He recommended a short profile tank, new gas line, valve and water valves. He checked the old laundry tub facet and the main water shut off valve. He called the office and told them what was needed and before the water was drained from the old tank, John Huck arrived with the new tank, pipes, etc. At every step I was consulted for the ok to proceed, what the cost would be, and was kempt informed of everything they were doing. Peter was able to fix the main shut off valve rather than replacing it, which would have been much more involved with shutting the water off at the street and the cost of a new valve. All work was done in 2 hours! They covered the carpeting and cleaned up every area they worked in. They were curteous, polite, and the price was better than I expected. If you had a rating higher than A+, I would absolutely give it to this company.
Description of Work: New gas hot water heater purchased and installed including new gas line and valve to the heater, and new water valves, new vent to chimney & repair of chimney where previous vent had broken down. New laundry tub faucet installed. Main water shut off valve repaired.

I started out looking for someone to fix my dishwasher as it wasn't getting more than a trickle of water into it. I called in a company that services appliances, since I was well past my warranty time, and although they initially thought it was a bad intake valve on the dishwasher, closer inspection showed that water was not even making it to the dishwasher. The repair guy admitted that he wasn't a plumber and recommended John D. Huck's company to me. I called John, and had one of his employees, Pete, come out to look at the problem. Well, it turned out to be a MUCH bigger job than either of us had expected it to be once Pete started digging in to see where the real problem was. We ended up replacing most of the piping under my kitchen sink with copper and pvc because it was old galvanized piping and was completely clogged and corroded. As Pete was doing the pipe replacement, he noticed that my steel trap was corroded, and he was actually able to put his thumb through the bottom of it, so that needed to be replaced as well. It just seemed to domino from there. As he replaced the trap, he noticed that the pipe coming out of the wall to the trap was clogged, so he had to clean the line out clear down to the basement. That was quite a job in itself, but Pete did an excellent job, and got it as clean as possible. Now he could put the trap back on, and from my request, he also removed an old garbage disposal that wasn't working any longer. He then had to replace that with pipiping to my double sink, as well as the pipe to the other side of the sink. He was then able to add in the line to the dishwasher, which he replaced with a flexible copper line, He ran that through the cabinet and coiled it under the dishwasher until he could get it to the intake valve and connect that up. I think the only pipe that he didn't replace was the cold water pipe, still galvanized steel, coming up from the basement. Pete certainly had a tough job with all of the unexpected fixes that were needed, but did an excellent job none-the-less. After about 4 hours of work, nothing has leaked since. He even was able to resolve a problem with my kitchen faucet where it was getting a very slow flow of water, which had been plaguing me since my father and I replaced the old one a few years prior, and I had just been living with it. Pete's knowledge of plumbing is superb. He even taught me a couple things of what not to do in the future. I can't say enough about this company, and especially Pete. Since I haven't had a plumber in before, I really don't know if the price was good or not, so I had to give it an and quot;Aand quot;, considering all that Pete had to do to fix what I thought was a simple dishwasher problem. I am VERY happy with their work, and am considering calling them in again to look at a slow drain in my tub.

Horrible! Poor customer service and an intimidating yelling, screaming owner. I'd like to mention I never lost my cool throughout this terrible ordeal..
Description of Work: They came first in late December 2010 for a leaking faucet. They replaced both washers, but the faucet started dripping again in a couple months. I had another contractor tell me that the faucet ground up the washer because they didn't grind the seat to smooth it out, so the washers failed. Water started to come through the kitchen ceiling so I called them back..they replaced the faucet seats & washers...and a day later THE FAUCET IS STILL LEAKING. I called them back to report the problem & the owner John Huck (Jr. ?) came to my house yelling and screaming that my house was a piece of s & I was a mental case.... Very poor customer service to say the least...he was screaming in my face and I had to order him off my property....he was aggressive to the point that I felt threatened & contemplated calling the police..I'd like to mention that I am a single woman & I am sure this big bully would never speak to a man this way..in fact he wasn't speaking, he was screaming....

Response from JOHN D HUCK 3RD GENERATION PLUMBING
It's unfortunate that this customer feels this way. It is not what happened and her explanation is inaccurate. Attempts were made to satisfy this customer's plumbing needs and there was just no pleasing her. My records show that her dates and dollar amounts are also not accurate. John D. Huck, president

We had a shower that wasn't working consistently and a washing machine that wasn't drawing much hot water. We assumed that the diverter valve in the shower assembly was bad and that the valve in the hot water line in the basement to the washer was faulty. The technician from Huck's Plumbing came to the house within several days of calling for help. He was precisely on time and immediately went to work to solve the problems. He found that the shower head, rather than the more expensive diverter valve, was not working properly. As for the washer, he showed me a clog in a filter in the washer's hot water line. Moreoever, he showed me how I could repair those types of clogs in the future without having to phone a plumber. In short, the technician identified low cost fixes for what I thought would be an expensive set of repairs. In addition, the technician was exceptionally pleasant and professional.
Description of Work: Faulty shower in guest bathroom; little hot water getting to the washing machine.

Everything went very well. They were punctual and cleaned up at the end of each days' work. They've been in business for many years, most likely because of their high reputation in the community.
Description of Work: A bathroom (circa 1950's) was totally remodeled including flooring, walls, light fixtures, & all plumbing. Everything was gutted and replaced with beautiful ceramic floor and wall tile, new toilet, pedestal sink, cast iron tub, and light fixtures. New waterproof wallboard was installed with beautiful wall and border tile done in a very meticulous manner. We ordered the the tile from Madison Tile on Sheridan Drive. They were most helpful and patient during the process. The plumbers were very professional and did a fantastic job! We have called on them for other plumbing jobs and highly recommend them for any job, no matter how big or small.

It was discovered to be a larger problem coming from the outside line. They recommended another plumbing service as they were not equipped with the large equipment it would take to fix problem. They did not charge for the call. I would like to say, however, that I have used them on a consistent basis through the years for various issues ranging from water tanks, tenant clogs, and putting in a new sump pump. I would highly recommend them to each and everyone on Angie's list!
