I respected and trusted (past tense) and considered Ed a friend as we went to high school together and I sent him well over a $100,000 in jobs as I would refer House Crafters often on social media. Years ago his team with Sean Collins did an excellent job on my roof, and an expensive addition on a friend's home which I referred. Whenever someone would ask about roofs of additions I would mention House Crafters. In 2021 I had messaged Ed asking if he had any masons that do chimney work. He told me yes and he would send a guy out. The mason (Shannon) told me he would do everything on a written quote that I received from another mason, remove my front tree for a $100 more, and the work would be warrantied by House Crafters. I said deal. There were some bees going in near the roofline and chimney and I asked him if he wanted me to call an exterminator before he started the job so he wouldn't get stung. He said no worries he had cans of wasp spray in his truck and would come by the next evening and spray. He kept postponing. I ended up getting bees in my home waiting on him which ended up costing me more. While waiting on him to start the job I painted my fireplace brick white and it turned out beautiful. I knew he had some health problems so I contacted Ed to see if Shannon was ok. Ed responded with a very unprofessional response that he thinks he was having a boil removed from his ***. I was genuinely concerned about him so thought his response was in distaste. Regardless Shannon months later finally showed up to do the job. When he seemed like he was finishing up I asked if he was returning the next day to complete the job. He said he was done. I told him he didn't mortar the joints or seal the chimney and the brickwork he did do was a mess. He said that there were more bricks that needed to be replaced than he had initially thought (his job to know) and Mark the owner wanted him to charge me more but that he quoted me a price and wasn't going to charge me more. He told me it would be $300 to $500 more to complete the job. I said if you aren't doing what you originally agreed to you are charging me more. After getting paid he said he didn't think I appreciated what he was doing and walked off. Never completing the work. I asked a friend that does roofing if he was in the area with his ladder if he could get on my roof and take some pictures. He did and sure enough the crack in the crown was still there. Shannon never repoured the crown, didn't mortar the joints, or seal the brick. And the work he did do was so sloppy it looked like a 3 year old did it. As a result of it not properly being fixed moisture was continuing to seep in the brick ruining the paint on the fireplace brick and causing toxic black mold to grow inside the fireplace. I contacted Ed about my concerns with pictures and all he was concerned about was seeing a written estimate. I sent him the original that Shannon agreed to do everything on it and remove the tree as well. I told him I wanted someone trustworthy and capable to complete the job or my money back so I could put it towards having the work done properly. Ed did not respond. I told Ed he could call me to discuss and no call. I called the office and was told by the secretary that Ed said it was between me and Shannon then he cowardly unfriended and blocked me on social media. Shannon was sent to my house by Ed, he showed up in a House Crafters truck, and I was told the work would be warrantied by House Crafters. It's sad after sending someone over a $100,000 in work for an addition, kitchen remodel, and a porch enclosure that I was completely disregarded. The last job that was done for a friend the work was also a disgrace. The porch steps looked like a kindergarten child half hazzardly put together a jigsaw puzzle. Not cool at all. So very disappointed. I have Shannon recorded on my Ring Doorbell being paid and saying he was going to do everything on the previous quote. Really sad I will have to take legal action to get the work completed properly or my money back.

House Crafters came out to do a estimate on our roof which had been leaking from the skylights. We did not know the exact age of the roof but Bob their salesman came out pretty quickly to take a look. Bob went up on the roof and did a very extensive explanation of the issues but also what the product options were. He also was able to give us the information on who to call for lending options. We also appreciate that Bob observed CDC guidelines when come for the call in the middle of a pandemic. We got approved for a lender and the team they sent to do was very pleasant at professional. They kept to themselves and worked the entire day with no interruptions to our own day. The lead on the crew even explained some of the issues that came up in the project and showed us pictures for context which we appreciated. Their clean up was done fairly well and made sure that none of the yard around the house was damaged or ruined from roofing coming down. I would use Housecrafters again for my roofing needs and recommend to others as well.

We had an appt set up at noon to get a quote for window installation - no one came, so at 12:40, we called the company and they said usually there is an hour window; we waited until 3:00 pm and no one came or called back - so we called and cancelled. I guess they did not want our business.

Excellent! Jason went above and beyond. I cannot thank him enough for working with us. He knew we were under a time frame and did whatever he could to meet it (and he did)! He is very professional (as well as his crew that was with him), punctual and explained everything to us as he was doing the job. I would definitely recommend Housecrafters to my family and friends. I had been waiting for a quote for 6 weeks. I called to speak to a manager who then said well they had a new computer system and it will just be late. ***?? That's all she could say and she didn't give me her name. The man who came to my house was Randy and his cell phone was 713-3755. I was hoping for a good outcome. But Nobody ever called me and I never received the estimate after he came out to my house. Very unprofessional. It's been 8 weeks now.

The owner, Mark, has a problem in listening to the customer's requests and doesn't follow through. We wanted the brown to match gutters, soffits and fascia. Mark promised that wasn't a problem. They do not match. There were several warped plywood sheets on the roof that we specifically told Mark to replace when they tore off the roof. They were not done.

We had House Crafters install new gutters, siding, ridge vents along our roof, and new trim/wrap for our soffit and fascia board between May and September of 2016. The communication and customer service from House Crafters was unbelievably poor. I had to place numerous calls and leave several voicemails just to get the work scheduled and keep the project rolling. The first part of the project started one day early without any prior notice given to me. I just received a phone call at work from the gutter contractors, who House Crafters had subcontracted, informing me that they were on site ready to start. The remaining work on the siding and roof did not take place until July, all completed in the late afternoon and evenings by one contractor who came to our house after finishing his day’s work at another site. Then, in late July they tried to bill us for the project when the job was not even complete, which I had to inform them of. It took another two months and several more unanswered voicemails and calls before I could get House Crafters to put the finishing touches on the project to complete it. I had several conversations over the phone with Mark Casillo, the owner, and Bob Brady. Mark pretty much made me feel worthless as a customer and tried to even hurry me off the phone at times without addressing my concerns. I ended up writing Mark a 5 page letter detailing the nightmare my wife and I had to go through just to get them to complete this project. Time will tell as far as the quality of the work goes, but I am not overly optimistic. Part of the Azek board they installed fell off and damaged the railing on our front porch. When they removed the siding, they did not end up replacing it until a few days later, leaving the bare wood exposed to the outdoor elements. While they did pile up the trash on the front lawn, they neglected to pick up any nails or make us aware that there were going to be nails all through our landscaping and lawn. That evening, my wife and I picked up 58 nails altogether. When the work was continued later that week, I had to inform the contractor that he was to drill holes in the soffit for ventilation, which he claimed he was never told even though it was written up in the estimate. He also was short on supplies and had to leave a portion of the drilled soffit leading into our attic exposed for a couple of days. If you are considering contractors, please read this and reconsider. While my house project was on the smaller side, I do not feel anyone should be treated of lower value just because their job is not as profitable or extensive as others. However, this is exactly the impression I got in my conversations with Mark. I felt as if our house was just an afterthought for House Crafters the entire time. On their write-up sheets for project quotes, it says people choose House Crafters because they start and finish one job at a time, answer all service calls within 7 business days, and have a 20 year experienced foreman on every job. I can tell you that from my experience not one of these statements was upheld by House Crafters. In the end, I had a long conversation with Bob to see if we could come to an agreement on a discount for the work performed. While there was some compromise made, I did not get desired discount that I was hoping for. Furthermore, Bob told me that I was even being ridiculous for asking for such a discount. To me that was just a slap in the face, but perhaps he did not know the whole story from our end and what we went through over the previous several months. I had hoped to receive some response from Mark or Bob in regards to my letter, but that has not been the case. I am sure Mark will see this review though and have some sort of response. Check out any negative review or complaint of House Crafters online, including the BBB, and Mark always has some sort of rebuttal. Hopefully they get the message that they need to get organized with their communication and that will help the customer get a better experience in working with them.

I felt good about the company from the first time I met them at the Buffalo Home Show. The salesman, Bob , that came out was thorough and professional. He included things in his recommendations and estimate that I was going to ask about anyway. ie. ice shield to the peak, materials, and trims... The price I got from Housecrafter's was comparable to at least two others in the area, but I felt better about doing business with them because of their salesman's presentation. Most were using the same or comparable materials. It really came down to who I felt better about doing business with...I feel I made a very good choice using Housecrafters. The job was done as promised with as good as an adherence to schedule as the weather allows. The work was completed in a week and everything was cleaned up and put away each night. The cleanup was no easy task because not only was the roof torn off but I had real cedar shingle siding that had been on the house for almost 50 years. It made for a very messy job site but when they left for the night it was clean. The crew was on the job first thing in the morning for the day. All of the work crew were professional and courteous. Very tolerant of my overly friendly Golden Retriever. When the everything was done extra care was taken to make sure everything was back in it's place. All the new lighting I had purchased was installed for me by the crew. The only problem that came up outside of the original estimate a vent that needed to be moved for aesthetics and was taken care of by John who was the lead guy on the job. We talked and decided what should be done and within an a few hours the next day, all was good. If it added anything to the original cost I was incidental. All in all I was pleased enough to have this company come back out for a new porch and bay window... stay tuned for a review of this years experience with them. Give them a call and see what you think.

I hired "HouseCrafters" to do windows, siding, front door and storm door, shutters and gutters. They were cheaper than other companies, and he said his guys have a ton of experience. I signed my contract @ May 20th of last year...Owner said they would start in about 5 weeks, and said now is the time to sign, before it gets busy. Come to find out , he didn't even order the stuff until the second week of June, or as he said..Rule number 1...always get a completion date, and everything they say they will do, make sure its in writing. I texted Mark, the owner, July 7( over 6 weeks later), asking when they were going start , he said soon....I guess soon means a month later. Weather was perfect by the way... On July 28, he called and said something must have happened with the front door, because they didn't have it, and no one told him from B& L, that they sent it back. Called B&L,they didn't know what i was even talking about...Mark could never produce the original order for the door and storm door even though I asked him too.. @Aug 3, I get a call saying that some of the products will be delivered tomorrow. They show up Aug 5th, to start....luckily I was home... no one ever called to say when they were starting.. They started on the side of the house , which was just about done, but when the owner came by , he was livid, he said he wanted the front done first...so, they finished most of the side , without asking me what i wanted to do about the top ridge as we discussed...just did what they thought I would want . At a later point , after the sides were done, it didn't look right so we discussed and i told them what i wanted, they had to eventually redo the whole top ridge, which if they would have asked me off the get go, the whole thing could have been avoided.. Anyway, They started to do the front and realized the owner ordered the wrong size double window...so, they had to work around that and the never ordered front door. They got the rest of the sides and windows installed. If figured they would put the gutters on right away, after a few days, I called and Mark and he told me they had the gutters ordered....never told me they subcontracted them out, said they had a machine that did it. Gutters were installed two weeks later by Precision Gutter. Then I called the Mark and asked him about the shutters...he said, he didn't know I ordered shutters, which were on the contract, and that they had to be special ordered, because after checking , no one carries white raised panel shutters anymore, because too many were being sent back. What, never heard of such a thing...neither did any of the contracting places I went to. Said they had plenty in stock, but they go quickly, so when they have them, you have to get them right away. Front door came in ,with storm door and installed....( noticed door and storm door were ordered on the same date, July 28th) meaning owner lied, otherwise it would have had the original order date on the invoices for both the door and storm door... So either he forgot to order them, or the company he got them from screwed it up. Anyway installer cracked the side of the door where the lock comes out. I only noticed it because I seen nails sticking out of the door, with glue around it . Apologized and tried to give me some money off. I refused, since the door cost a lot of money. So, they had to order a new door. This was after arguing with the owner, who said my door will be on the front of his house, if he is ordering a new one. Then told me later it wouldn't fit his house. Funny , because guess where the door is? On his house...In the mean time I noticed several windows didn't seem right. They weren't level, because apparently the guy that was on the inside, told the foreman on the outside the windows were even/square/plumb, etc. and they weren't. Foremen was ticked and said well he can come out and fix then now. Needless to say, when he did come out, he couldn't budge them , so the foreman came out and tried to fix them the best he could. Since they were brand new construction windows, the only true way to fix them would be to take all the siding back off around the windows ,adjust and nail the flanges back again. I wasn't about to go through all that, since I already painted the molding, walls, etc. Windows still aren't even, but Anderson said it was the installers fault, and installer said manufacturers defects/fault. Owner from HouseCrafters said the Rep from Anderson that came out from Pa to look at the windows can , well , i cant repeat, what he said when I told him the that the rep said windows weren't installed right. After installing the new front door, which for some reason was now over a 1/2 higher then the first one the foreman installed. Foreman couldn't explain why the second door was higher since he didn't install it. And also why the guy put a nail in the same spot where the door was cracked before, said there was no reason to, which now , has small cracks by the nail... I noticed a couple scratches on the storm door, which wasn't installed right either, and piston was installed in the wrong spot and was taken back off and put in the right spot....so it took them two months to order a new one. Also they cracked the molding around the garage door...not a big deal...but don't put it back on, and cover it up with white silicone. So, they had to fix that. After I filed my complaint with the BBB and everything that had to be fixed...the owner called me , swearing at me, etc, for filing a complaint. and told me I better be careful.... His response to the BBB was that I am anal, and everyone was sick and tired of me watching them , and calling companies to see what the problems were since I had to because he wasn't doing it...etc... He said even the gutter people called him and said they were ready to walk off the job because of me...funny, because I was only there inside my house for the first 20 minutes, and left for an appt and came back when they were just about done. The guy gave me his card for future references etc, and left...no issues... did a great job... So they were ready to walk off the job when I wasn't even there for the majority of it...more lies... I asked the owner about the bottom of the gutter that were away from the house and soffit...he said the wood must have been curved/ angled at the bottom. doesn't affect the performance. I told him when we first talked, that if there was anything wrong with the wood to let me know, because I had a claim with the insurance company...and we could take pictures...he then says ....that wasn't in writing. And who was going to take the pictures...him? I stated pictures would have been taken, by him, one of his workers or by me. But guess according to him since I didn't have that in writing, that conversation never existed. At one point , they also put the vinyl siding on wrong,( wrong direction, with overlay) and had to take it back off...and redo it.. I went back and forth with Anderson who sent me new sashes...but now, no one to install them. The owner of HouseCrafters lied so bad in his responses to the BBB, but they said it was a he said this / you said this. Owner said he replied to every email, text, call etc within 24 hours...not true, I have emails that he never even read, just deleted/ ignored them according to aols status update. i could say so much more.....unreal the amount of lies. Oh yeah, and the windows that came in , never came with screens.....so, that took all summer to get them . Oh, and the shutters. Apparently he changed his mind, and told the BBB that they had them when was originally there, but when he went to go get them, they were all out...not what he told me, guess he thought I would believe that . Draw your own conclusions about HouseCrafters....I already did and I am ticked...took 9 months to completely finish a project that they were out numerous times....even all my neighbors said....back again? Only good thing I can say is the workers on the job were very courteous, polite, and took there time to know what I wanted, since a couple things I had to have changed, like the vinyl was started to low on the back off my house, near a concrete pad, so they had to raise that up. That was my fault. Owner/Mark was very unprofessional in every way imaginable, even criticizing other contractors work that I had done, but didn't know what t say when I told them they were coming out to fix it, without a problem. Never recommend as he told me he would never do any more work on my house.. In his response, he said the BBB threw out my complaint, not true. They said because I signed off on the punch list( all the things that were wrong) and it was in the process of being corrected, when i filed my complaint, they would not publish it, and said it was invalid. I have their response. I never wrote any complaint letters to Anderson, everything was done over the phone, to correct problems. Also ,I wrote no letters about the door. But got a great explanation by Thermatru, how the whole process works. If i got the door for free , why was i charged for it, and why is the old one on his house? Foreman told me they installed it there. Housecrafters cracked the door, not me. Why would the door company refuse to order a new door under his name, when they cracked it ? Plus they only sell to contractors. Never offered to leave job 3/4 of the way through ..matter of fact , he wanted money for siding etc because said he was being pushed up on by his supplier to be paid...so I paid it. Plus , if that was the case it would have taken another company months to fit it into their schedule, if I could have even found one to do it, since it was already started by another company. I made two changes to the house, everything else was because the work wasn't done right. The dog feces was back by the shed , which is where his workers were urinating, even after I told them they could use my bathroom.

Steve and the crew at Housecrafters did a wonderful job building a new patio for our home. They were very organized, thorough and easy to communicate with. They made sure we were involved in every step of the process and listened to our ideas and wants. We were particularly impressed with Steve and his attention to detail when it came to planning and explaining how the project would move along. The crew they worked with to install the patio and walls were also very skilled and knowledgeable. We would certainly use Housecrafters again for future projects and recommend them as well.

I made an appointment for a new roof estimate nearly a week in advance. Appointment was with Bob who was a total no-show. No courtesy call to say "I'm running late, but will be there shortly". I then called the office and was told he'd be here in 15 minutes. Still, he never showed.. Since this will be a rather BIG and expensive job, I choose to do business with a company that's more courteous and dependable.

I am very pleased with the work done by the crew (John, Rich, Dwayne and Brandon). They took their time to make sure things were done well ? they did not rush through just to get the job done. All of them paid attention to details, which I appreciated very much, and accepted any input/changes I requested. For example, I requested that ice shield is put on the front of the house instead of Tyvek wrap (that was specified in the contract), they told me that this is probably not necessary, but did it as I requested. And did not charge me extra for this (ice shield should cost more than Tyvek). They were also highly professional, nice and friendly. They would clean and organize their tools every day before leaving. The salesman (Bob) is a very nice guy and not pushy at all! He will not try to sell you what you don?t need. I originally wanted siding made of cement boards, but ended up with high-end vinyl product (Monogram 46), which was cheaper at the end, very durable, and much easier to maintain. The price I paid was, based on 3 other estimates, reasonable. They were not the cheapest but also not the most expensive. I would rate their work as well above the average. Paying average price for well above average work was a great deal for me. If you decide to hire this company, my recommendation is to sign the contract early since they are usually busy and not available to start your job immediately. I would definitely hire them again (and plan to do so).
Description of Work: Removed old siding, installed Tyvek vapor barrier, caped wood and windows trim, installed Monogram 46 siding, changed Tudor panels (put new Hardy boards) and batten boards (front), painted porch

We consulted the Better Business Bureau for contractors who rated well and had no/few complaints. We found several possiblities and made appointments . Our initial problem was water seeping through the wall of the living room just above the top portion of the window trim. This occurred only when there was snow and ice build up in the gutter in front of the house. The contractors came to our house and found a much bigger problem. The roof on the existing addition was collapsing and and the ceiling was bowing inside. We were not impressed with any of the contractor's so far until House Crafters came. Salesperson, Bob arrived on time. He was professional, knowledgeable, patient and very hard working. He stayed late that day to complete the estimate and he even came back a second time to give us another estimate for more work we wanted done. This being our first major home improvement project, we really didnt know what to expect. We were put at ease after seeing the AMAZING job the framing crew did, led by Paul and his team Chuck, Jerry, and Mike. The crew arrived early the first day and everyday until the project was completed. The original shingles, plywood and rafters were removed and new rafters of the correct size were put in. The pitch of the roof was raised which led to the removal of 2 back windows. A new architectural roof was put on to the entire house and garage and a 2 ply flintlastic was installed on a low sloping roof in back. The family room addition was gutted and reframed, insulated, electric updated, drywalled, painted and trim work was done. After that, new siding for the entire house was put on along with shutters, 2 new steel doors and a storm door. The framing team worked well together. They were professional, knowledgeable and organized. They made suggestions and alerted us of concerns they had that we, as homewoners, would not have known. This team proved to be true DIE HARDS who worked in the frigid, hot and humid temperatures. They were always working and never seemed to take a break. Thanks guys, YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Ed, the owner of House Crafters, would drop by time to time to see the progress of the project. He too, made suggestions and was very accommodating. Due to the removal of one of my windows, he had my entire bathroom repainted free of charge. He also exchanged my shutters for another so that it matched the door. THANK YOU ALL AT HOUSE CRAFTERS FOR MAKING MY HOUSE A HOME!!!!

Things went well before it was time to build. Then there was a problem with who Ed Miller sub-contracted the work to build the foundation (Wayne Block). To be fair, there were unforeseen problems with my soil, which in turn, changed how the foundation would be built. The problem started when Ed Miller of House Crafters and Wayne Block told me my ONLY option was to build a full basement and that it would cost me an extra $15k - $19k. I did the research and found a.) that price was crazy, and b.) a full basement wasn't my ONLY option. After that Ed tried to distance himself from Wayne Block. He even said he had another concrete guy who was cheaper than Block. I declined, why would I deal with you once you've been dishonest! At this point we agreed to part ways. I asked for my deposit. He billed me for the "work" that Block did ( see Wayne Block review ), a few fees and the building permit. I went to get the check, permit, and drawings, and all I got was a $200 out of $1,000 check, no permit and no drawings! On top of that, he called city hall and cancelled the permit that I paid for!

Job was bid to your architects specs not ours after the foundation crew discovered old toilets, bricks and other garbage buried in your yard "I wouldn't classify that as a soil problem". The city of buffalo gave your architect and us specific instructions of how to remedy the junk problem and build a proper addition. We followed the instructions perfectly and bid the extra work as low as possible in order to help [members name] out. We called every foundation company we use and asked for favors to help soften the added expense. The extra cost didn't sit to well with [members name] as to be expected so he cancelled the job even though we found out later that he new all along about the trash buried in his yard from other contractors {fence installer} who previously worked for him. All costs incurred from starting the foundation, permit fees and blue prints were handed over to the B.B.B who ruled in our favor. [Members Name] is simply angry that his deposit check was not refunded in full, but all could of been avoided if [members name] was upfront with his architect and us from the beginning. Wayne Block is and will be doing our foundation work because of quality and honesty he gives all of our customers. Permits and blue prints have been setting at our office for pick up since the start of the digging. We would of loved to build his addition and if the additional moneys are their in the future [members name] can call us to do the work or if he simple finds someone else then were here to help with advice if needed.

It went very well. Had a partial bath running with in 4 days. That included the plumbing being redone, toilet, tub andsink all relocated. Job started on a Monday and by Friday 90 percent of the work was completed. Company even ordered the porta potty so there where no worries getting that done. With the exception of not having a real toilet for a few days, the process was very stress free and there was also constant satus updates daily as far as progress.

They were very professional and did professional custom work the way we envisioned. Through all the different projects we did they inspected their work and made sure it was done correct. They were very open to my thoughts and ideas before and during our projects. Communication with project manager Ed Miller and work crew was very good. What I wanted done got done and if I wanted more done on the build they were open to it. I would highly recommend them to neighbors, family and friends. In fact I have got several compliments on how the house looks now.
Description of Work: We built a custom deck with plastic/vinyl materials , partial covered deck and patio, built a custom garage, built a custom covered porch with plastic/Vinyl materials, new front entrance to house and resided house.

Thanks for your reply, we have you in our system for Wednesday April 9th for a estimate/meeting. We followed up leaving a message that your estimate was completed on May 2nd, when we didn't get a response we mailed it out on May 7th but you already signed with another contractor a week earlier. We have a average turn around time on garages of two weeks or less, yours took four weeks for some reason, we will look into it and thanks again and keep us in mind for any other projects

Gotta love angies list, any home owner can right something when there bored. I hope all the contractors that didn't submit a bid also got this F grade. Customer was told we were not the right fit for that job and they would not listen.
