Jim Collins (Father) came over Wednesday, December 19th to reconnect the water supply to the humidifier on my furnace. It took him about an hour or so and he came up from the basement and said it was harder than he thought it would be and the charge was $153.20, which I paid. Mr. Collins mentioned there was some water on the floor and in the area. He said it wasn’t bad and it would evaporate. I went downstairs to check and there was water on the hot water heater, the furnace, and the surrounding floor. A couple hours later, I noticed that the actual temperature on the thermostat was a couple degrees lower than what it was set on. I checked the vents and cold air was coming out. I called the website number and Ellen called me back and said the guys would be back out. They came (father & son) and said the problem was with the circuit board and the father said it would be around $300 to fix. I said the furnace was fine before the father worked on it and asked if the work done earlier caused the problem. The son said no and it looked like the water came from somewhere else. The father said they had to leave for an hour and a half and would be back to finish the job. The father and son came back and went directly downstairs. While I was upstairs, I noticed their van was driving away. I got a call from the son and he said they wouldn’t be able to finish the job that night. I asked what the problem was and he said water got into the furnace and caused damaged. And I reminded him his father worked on the water humidifier connection and he said the water came from the chimney. He said he had to get parts from his supplier the next morning at 9:00 a.m. and would be over as soon as possible in the morning. I told him I was concerned about the pipes freezing and that I was going to be extremely cold overnight. He just said he would be there in the morning as soon as he could. I went downstairs and the basement door was left open, the light was on, the door was off the furnace, the protective shield was off the water heater and parts were laying around the basement (I have pictures). I tried to sleep but it was freezing all night. The next morning, the son called me and asked if I wanted the furnace fixed for $900 or if I wanted to buy a new furnace for $1,800. I told him that I was relocating to another state and I just needed the heat to work and didn’t want to buy a new furnace. I asked again how water got into the furnace he said he didn’t know. I said to fix it for $900. They ended up fixing the heat, I checked to make sure the heat was blowing. The father gave me the bill and it was $771.77 which I paid. 99.9% of the time, I would have kicked these guys out of my condo and found someone else to do the job without paying anything. I recently relocated out of NY, I was back to fix a few things before sale of my residence and this was my last day in Buffalo. I felt I needed to get heat before I left so the pipes wouldn’t freeze and burst in the middle of a Buffalo winter. Unfortunately, these guys had the leverage and knew it. Before Jim Collins came out and started work, my furnace was running fine. I believe the work they initially did caused other issues that they charged me for and were able to take advantage of me under the circumstances.

!It is winter time in February and our furnace went out during the night. Went on Angie's list to find a heating and cooling contractor that was close to our location. Called Jim Collins Heating and Cooling at 10:45am. The owner answered. He had a a couple of customers to see, said that he would call back shortly. Jim Collins called back at 1:45pm and arrived shortly after. He checked out the system and determined that the blower motor was defective.. He had a new replacement motor in his van. He installed the motor, checked and cleaned the furnace and finished at 3:15pm. The quality of service was great. The responsiveness was superior. The price was reasonable. I always feel better dealing with the business owner and with a local company. I would highly recommend Jim Collins Heating and Cooling!

I called at 6pm and Jim was in my driveway by 6:45. Checked and cleared a line that had sediment in it. Finished by checking the entire furnace to be sure there were no other issues. I'm very happy with how quickly he responded and how thoroughly he checked out the furnace. I have not had any issues since he left.

Jim Collins (Heating and Cooling services) was very prompt, professional and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend his services to anyone.
Description of Work: Called Jim Collins on reference of co-worker that had previously used his services. Called at 3pm Thursday and Jim was able to come after work on that same day to accomodate my schedule. Had a clogged leaking air conditioner condenser tube. Jim replaced the tubing and serviced the air conditioner and furnace and repaired the humidifier that hadn't worked in three years.

Jim always does furnace cleaning for me. He also put in a furnace for my son down in Franklinville. I spent about $125 for the last service. Jim is always on time and he always comes when he says he is going to. He always gives you an estimate within very few dollars. He is excellent. His price and quality are excellent. He is very reasonable for what he does. He is always right where he says he will be and when he says he will be here.
Description of Work: I have been using the services of Collins Jim Heating & Cooling for years. Their last visit to my house was about two weeks ago for furnace cleaning.

Our daughter and son-in-law purchased a century home three years ago. The first floor was heated by a 40-year-old forced air furnace in the basement. The second floor had been heated only by ancient baseboard heaters. The utility bills were outrageous because the old furnace couldn't adequately heat the first floor and the baseboard heaters on the second floor were old and inefficient. My husband and I offered to replace the heating system for them. We needed a contractor who would be creative enough to come up with an energy-saving solution to the heating problem. And because we have to drive 3.5 hours to get to our daughter's home and were going to be the ones to oversee the work, we needed someone reliable who would show up when they promised. Jim Collins, of Jim Collins Heating and Cooling, was the contractor we selected. During the walk through of the house, Jim explained that he would put a high-efficiency furnace in the basement that would actually heat the first floor. In order to heat the second floor, it was impossible to run ductwork from the basement because of the house construction. Jim's solution was to install a second, high-efficiency furnace in the attic and run the ductwork down into the second floor. This is a family-run business and the workers who came were excellent. Jim was there to help and oversee throughout the process. The installation went smoothly. The first day, the basement furnace was installed. The second day, they ran all the necessary utilities up to the attic, installed the furnace and ran the ductwork - all in one busy day (with only three people). The installation was neat and quick. They were careful to keep things clean and did an excellent job cleaning up. We are more(!) than completely satisfied with the work done by this company. Their solution was creative and the installation was amazingly quick. In nearly three years, this is the first time this home has actually been warm!

Jim Collins as well as the crew he brought were all very pleasant and efficient. They were prompt and had the job done when they said they would. They cleaned up beautifully and we have not had a single issue with the new furnace since it was installed. They also offer coupons in the local Penny Saver as well as the telephone book. I would recommend them.
