Description of Work: "Excellent roofing company that does excellent work and stands behind its work. I had my old shingles stripped off before the new shingles were applied. This resulted in a tremendous amount of trash surrounding the house. Three feet deep in some spots. When they were done, they cleaned up so well that, if it were not for the new roof, you would never know they were there. This is even more impressive because it was getting dark out when the finished the roofing and therefore had to clean up in the dark. I though they would come back the next day to finish cleaning up but they got out some bright lights and went around the entire house to clean up. I went out the next morning expecting to see a lot of junk they missed during clean up but there was nothing other than a small three inch by half inch piece of shingle. Excellent clean up. |Also as I walked around the house I noticed a couple of places where some flashing didn't look very neat. I called Black Rock to inform them and they came right out to inspect.In fact the gentleman who came out to inspect, found something that I had missed. All problems were taken care of right away. |It was certainly a pleasure to deal with a company that, not only does great work, but also stands behind its work one hundred percent. I recommend Black Rock Roofing to all my friends."

They came only to find it was not a roof issue, but a problem with the siding. Mike caulked the gaps to hopefully solve the problem. Description of Work: Roofing. Took off one layer of shingles. Replaced plywood as needed. Prepared the surface according to CERTAINTEED specifications (very specific standards). Contractors must adhere to these standards in order to carry their products. Installed shingle vent ridge at all ridges. Installed seamless aluminum gutter system to entire house. Installed roof, using Certainteed Lifetime Architectural Shingles - "Landmark". They used six nails per shingle. 10 year full service on workmanship warranty. They cleaned up tremendously when finished. They were courteous to us (the homeowners) when we left for a short time. They arrived for the job @ 7:30 and the job was done and all cleaned up when we returned at 1:15.

Description of Work: Replaced garage roof and repaired house siding. Punctual and fast plus a thorough cleanup. Two of their guys came back a couple days later to inspect the job and tidy a few things. Couldn't be happier.

Description of Work: COPY of the Thank You letter we sent to Black Rock expressing our gratitude: Around the beginning of October 2012 we noticed the ceiling in our upstairs hallway had some new water damage. When we purchased the house a few years ago we knew it would only be a matter of time before we would have to get a new roof. Unfortunately, that time came sooner than we were expecting and with being very tight on money it was definitely an unwelcome surprise. We started contacting several roofing companies and doing extensive research. After narrowing it down to two companies we chose you. We felt the same about your company and the other one - pleased with the level of service we were receiving, from returning phone calls, arriving on time for the estimate and answering any questions we had. When we were unsure of which company to choose we logged onto www.bbb.com to check reviews and ratings. Both of your companies had an A+ rating and good reviews. The other company was about $2,500 more. Once we told the other company what our estimate was from you, they stated they would "price match." There were 3 main things that stood out to us and helped us make the right decision... The first, the other company stating they would NOW price match AFTER they knew we got a lower estimate from you. This made us worry because we weren't sure if that was now going to jeopardize the quality we were going to receive. Surely, they would have to make changes in order to lower the price that much. And with our finances being very tight we told them during the first phone call that we were looking for a company that charged fair prices and was willing to work with us. The second, was the overall level of service and compassion that Black Rock Roofing has for their customers. During the first few weeks of trying to find the right roofing company, we went to the credit union to take out a home equity line of credit in order to pay for the new roof. During one of the conversations we had with someone from Black Rock Roofing, we were referred to a woman at SEFCU (can't remember her name) who we were told has a "great relationship" with the company and might be able to help us further in the process with the credit union. We were able to take out enough equity to pay for the roof, however we were maxed out at $8,800 and the roof cost $8,795! Talk about lucky right? Then came the bad news - once the big day was here and the roofers started tearing off the old roof they noticed the fascia boards were rotted around the flat roof (which was done by another company a couple of years ago). Unfortunately, the other company didn't replace those and now we got stuck with a big surprise. We started feeling stressed, wondering how we were going to come up with the extra $400 so you can finish the new roof. After discussing our financial situation with Chris Paolini, he was able to give us some good news a couple of days later - we could pay for the remaining balance ($400) after we get our 2012 tax refund. We told him we get our refund between the end of February/beginning of March. He spoke with the owner and it was decided that it was OK to do this! Black Rock Roofing still finished the entire job - and quickly too. Now we don't have to worry all winter! And third, the two guys who worked with us throughout the entire process - Chris Paolini and Mark Beyer. We have never met such wonderful guys (and this says a lot in this type of industry). They seem so down to earth and honest. It's not easy to be able to trust the people you hire to work on your house, but these guys made us feel very comfortable. We have already referred Black Rock Roofing to several friends and family members. Mark came out a couple of times to give us estimates and info on the products and services. When we couldn't decide on the color of shingles that we wanted he gave us a list of addresses near our house that had our top colors. We were happy that he did this because the colors we were interested in looked very different once they were up on the roof. Mark never rushed thru his appointments with us and gave us some very honest feedback of other things we could do to add value to our house without breaking the bank. Chris Paolini came out a few times to pickup the money we owed for the new roof. Each time we talked to him to schedule a time to meet, we offered to drop the money off ourselves, but he insisted he would come to us. Every time we gave him another deposit he always gave us an updated receipt and contract with the new balance. It was nice that we never had to ask for one. Both of these guys are awesome! Very punctual, honest, kind, professional - can't say enough. It was such a pleasure working with Black Rock Roofing and these two are truly an asset to your company. Again, we cannot say enough how thankful we are that we chose Black Rock Roofing and the service we received was more than expected. It is extremely appreciated that you finished our roof and gave us the opportunity to pay for the remaining balance when we get our 2012 tax refund. The new roof looks great, THANK YOU again!

Description of Work: Black Rock did a great job for us. They provided a very detailed comprehensive, competitive quote and the quality of the work was very good. We had two issues after the job was completed and both were handled promptly,,,,no questions asked. A number of years ago I had similar work done by Salem's roofing and it was a real butcher job. I won the maximum award in small claims court and used it all cleaning the mess up. they made...it leaked and it looked like sh..... By contrast, Black Rock provided very good quality and outstanding customer service. I suppose every job is different, but I would not hesitate to use them again.

When I noticed that this particular company had favorable responses on your list I decided to go with them . The name of the company is Black Rock Roofing from Buffalo New York. They did a wonderful job. The roof looks beautiful. They did a great job protecting my property during instalation and cleaned up afterwards. they got back to me to be sure I was happy with the finished product as well. A couple of companies tried scare tactics with me but this company treated me with respect and answered all my questions. They even provided me with a couple od addresses to check out two specific roof colors that I was unable to choose between so i could check them out myself.I would reccomend this company to anyone that is in need of a new roof.

Description of Work: Our experience with Black Rock Roofing, and specifically their estimator Joe, was excellent. Joe was a pleasure to work with. He was courteous, friendly, knowledgeable and very responsive to our needs and concerns. Communication was excellent; he quickly returned phone calls and provided all the information we requested. We were interested in re-roofing our house (complete tear off). The roof is slate and was repaired a few times over the years. When it developed another leak, we thought replacement was our best option. Due to the design of the roof, we had the option of replacing part of the roof or the entire roof. Cost was definitely a factor, so he worked with us to provide pricing for the partial areas and the complete roof. His estimate was similar to other estimates we had received. No other company that we contacted provided the attentive service that Joe provided. We were 100% comfortable using Black Rock Roofing based on our experience with Joe and the company’s A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. In the end, we decided to try once again to have the slate roof repaired. Black Rock does not do slate repair so we must use another company. If this repair doesn't solve the problem with the leak, we will definitely contact Black Rock Roofing to replace the roof in the future.

Description of Work: First of all, you must beware of the individual that comes out to do the estimate (owner's brother-in-law). Our MAIN concern was that since the roofing job was going to be a complete tear off , we had a major concern about old roofing debris falling into the attic. He clearly told my wife & I that very little if any would fall in there because they are very careful when performing the tear-off. So we naturally trusted his word, only to find out that MUCH roofing debris fell in & ended up covering the whole inside of the attic and since it didn't state what he had told us in the contract (again, he gave us his word), the estimator lied to his brother-in-law and stated that he never said that, insomuch they were not liable for the clean up! Plain & simple, the estimator lied and said he never said that. Second the job was so awefully done, that a crew of three great guys had to come back for a whole week just to make it sort of right. Third, the roof had never leaked, but after they were done, water backed up from roof ice into the house and has damaged the ceiling in lower level two years in a row. First time they came out and said they fixed it, but it happened again the following year, and they said that they can't do anything about it, it's our ice problem. So I had to repair the ceiling myself. Again, we never had water come in ever before this. Fourth, they replaced all the gutters (well, had a subcontractor do it) and it is the poorest installation job i have ever seen. When i showed the owner, dave bly, he said they would have to have it replaced because he fully agreed with me. Well, he never did, so we have gutter system that is all scalloped from poor installation. Nice! So bottom line, some people like them, we felt like we were duped for $13,000. and we still have to find another contractor to finally fix what they have failed to do. Be careful of the "smooth talkin' estimator" & definitely read the fine print and Make sure they include anything they verbally promised "IN THEIR CONTRACT" !! Good Luck for those of You that gamble with their services (or lack of)!

Description of Work: I am retired military and work in law enforcement. Requested a residential roofing estimate from Black Rock upon seeing their reviews here on Angies List. At the time we purchased our house, we knew the roof was in need of replacement but when we moved in we found it had leaked considerably. Company estimator "Joe" arrived on time and despite the rain, proceeded to continue with the measurements and estimate. Joe was extremely professional. He was shown the locations of active leaks and agreed it was a serious matter. Black Rock includes at least three sheets of deck material (plywood) at no cost in the estimate but should it go beyond that, they apply charge. Estimate included Landmark / Certainteen brand material. I learned that some companies may utilize inferior products unbeknownst to the consumer so knowing the brand of material going on our roof was important. Upon entering into contract, Joe and company advised they would be able to begin work within a week. Within a few days, the crew came on a Saturday and continued to work until the rain forced them to stop. The workers did a thorough job of covering the work site and at the same time gave special attention to the active leaks. I conducted a review of the materials they used and they did consist of the brand as advised during the estimate. The products were even made in the USA which was impressive. After the job was done, the site was clean. expressed concern over some minimal damage to a gutter which was addressed promptly. Overall, we were extremely satisfied with the level of courtesy and professionalism the company foreman and management exhibited during the process which resulted in a trouble free job and an awesome roof.
