In the Summer/Fall 2012 I needed a wrought iron had rail replaced. Bison iron made a new one to match the one I still had up and they installed.

I thought they were rather slow. I had to call them back a couple of times. Their communications could stand improvement. They didn't come because they were running behind on jobs and the weather is wet, but I should have to wonder that they should let me know. I would use them again but I would let them know my previous problem and I would tell them I would hope they would respond better. The work was good and the quality was good. One thing is they took the railings out of the wall of the house and had to anchor it to a new site. In anchoring the new site I think they could have patched the old site, it's not necessary but I think it would have been nice. I have two holes where the old anchor used to be and I thought that was a little tacky.

I had concrete work done and I wanted to get rid of the old railings and replace them with new ones. They came and gave me the estimate when they said they would. I am debating on what railing to use. I am getting various estimates, like aluminium, vinyl, and wrought iron. This company told me that aluminium is double the price and I got a little better estimate from another company for aluminium. Obviously this company wanted me to put the wrought iron railing. They seem to have aluminium railing but I think they specialize in wrought iron. Wrought iron railings need to be painted periodically, it can chip and it can rot, it can rust so you need to do redo them. The thing about vinyl though, is that it is guaranteed as long as they are in business. Anything happens to it you never have to replace anything. You do it once and it is done. Aluminium you don't have to paint for many years. They were responsive and punctual. I was planning to go with them till I saw the work done by another provider down my road. I would consider them for a quote in the future. Price wise they were high for aluminium but very fair for wrought iron. It was $1300 or $1400 for wrought iron and $2900 for aluminium. I thought he was trying to sell me wrought iron. He told me that if I was to have aluminium done they would have to prime it and then paint it. Even if I just got the side porch done now and then the front which is a big area in Spring they told me that either way they would have to charge me $90 be it for aluminium or for wrought iron because I wanted it in the bronze color which I wanted. So they would double charge me.

Company installed substandard product. Either measurements taken before railing made or installation of same incorrect. Crooked ornament and mis-aligned railing pieces. Railing installed while paint still wet. Condescending salesman and owner. Owner will not take responsibility for substandard product and workmanship. Work area left like pig-sty by workman. Avoid these problems by hiring another firm--even if it costs more--you get what you pay for. This firm "mass-produces" these railings. There is no attention to detail, nor professionalism.

I thought Bison Iron and Step was very professional in how they did their job. We shopped around and Bison had the best price. A stain has formed on the porch but they said they will work with me to get it right. The quality was good and it looks great.
