Excellent... job was done on time and in the most professional way. Would not hesitate hiring Dave and his crew again. We developed a slight squeak in the floor a month later and when I called Dave he was at the house the next day and fixed it. Thats what I call customer service. Would recommend this company to others

Description of Work: They sanded and refinished the hardwood floors of an entire flat (sunporch, living room , dining room, and hallway). They made very good suggestions on how to improve the appearance of the well-worn hardwood floor; then they followed through with the suggestions, and the result was outstsnding.

The job took 4 days total for repair, sanding, and varnishing with dry times in between. We chose a better quality varnish which had odor but was basically dry to the touch in two hours. Didn't walk on it until late at night. No problems. Odor dissipated faster than other times when we did our floors years ago. The job was beautifully done in a professional manner. It was evident that the workers took pride in their work.

The end result was fine and relatively affordable, but find somebody else if you can, these guys require to much micro-management I would caution others from using these guys based on their lack of professionalism based on the following issues. 1) I don't need to hear my floor guys long-winded dissertation on the merits of creationism and the faults of evolution. That has nothing to do with sanding my floors. He really did spend a lot of time trying to chat when he should have been working 2) They left all of their garbage on my porch, beer cans, sanding discs, sand paper, dust etc. They then told my wife that I told them to leave their trash on my porch which was an outright lie. In an attempt to get him to stop talking to me on my way out the door to catch a flight I told him, and quot;yes go ahead and leave that one disc on the porch.' I guess he wanted to show me how much paint was really on the floor. 3) That leads me to another issue. Having worked on the house myself for the past year and having had the floors finished in the ENTIRE REST OF THE HOUSE, I told the guys, and quot;there is a lot of old oil based paint on the floor its going to be a lot of extra effort to get it up.and quot; Sure enough it did take a lot more time and effort then they had planned, if they hadn't been so condescending and listened to me they would have had a better idea as far as how long it would have taken.

wonderful work .. results are better than expected. they work on a job until it is done. know their stuff...sometimes the job before you takes longer than anticipated. like waiting at a doctors office. they may have been late to start but when they were at our job they stayed until they were done and what they did was exceptional Will definitely hire again

Amazing. The person we spoke with was forthcoming in detailing his knowledge of this craft, and how older homes have issues. We were told that they would work until we were satisfied. The problem being that older floors were shellacked/varnished and age also changes the color. They were prompt, careful and hardworking. They did each step thoroughly and completely. They cleaned as they went - although sanding wood does create dust. The job is perfect!!! The color is gorgeous. We are so pleased with this project we wanted to highly recommend them. Also note: My husband is a master carpenter and they got his approval ( not an easy thing to do)

I first contracted Affordable floors back in 2008 when I remodeled the first floor apartment in my duplex. I selected them based on their quote being the lowest of all companies I felt comfortable doing the job. The job was broken up into 2 phases because I had furniture in the house, and every floor was hardwood. I did not have a tight schedule, which they were aware of, so it did not bother me that the job took longer than expected. Work typically did not begin until late morning, and they were most always gone before I returned home from work at 4:30 - 5. The floors turned out great, with the only negative being how the 2 phases did not blend together as would have liked. I feel it could have been done better than it was, but they did tell me up front it wouldnt be perfect. In 2010 I used Affordable floors again to refinish the upper apartment, this time in a single phase. They also refinished the landings and replaced a few boards. Again I did not have a tight timeframe for completing the job, and felt comfortable enough with them completing the work while I was out of town. The end results turned out great and I was very happy with how the floors turned out. Overall, Affordable floors is a small family owned company, and they do good work. It is because they are small that I feel limits them on how quickly they can complete a job because they are often doing multiple jobs at a time. I think there are places where there is room for improvement but I feel I got what I paid for. They were significantly cheaper than the quotes I got from the big flooring guys. Before doing the work, they will walk through the house with you and point out inperfections that will or will not come out when the job is done. Bob seemed very knowledgable, and wanted to make sure I was happy. After the job was completed, at my request they left me extra materials so that I could finish up some uncompleted projects I was working on that were not ready at the time of the job. I am happy with what I got.

I contacted Afflrdable Floors to refinish my living room floor as well as the staircase and landings in October of 2008. Incredibly they came recommended from another local company in the same line of work. The job was supposed to take 4-5 days in total. I wish that had happened, but nearly 2 weeks later the job was nearing its end. The boss or person in charge was a man named Bob. He was very vague on just about everything form time estimates to work completed. Bob is not at all professional as he has showed through his demeanor. He is a loud and overbearing person who likes to talk over you when you are asking a question. I was off from work during this time and often found that they would arrive very late. The sanding went fairly smoothly though they were not able to tell me how much was taken off or how much could be taken off. Bob often referred to the grit of the paper but they should really know in measurement approximately how much wood was removed. There were stains in the wood that needed to be masked. Someone who is in the buisness should be able to give an accurate opinion as to how dark the stain needs to be to cover any spots. After trying a lighter stain that he had to know wouldn't work we had to go with a darker stain to cover. All of this took more time and money. Prior to the job there had been carpet covering the wood. There were gouge marks left in the wood from the previous carpet installation. They were ignored and when I questioned Bob about it he said that I never asked for him to apply putty in those spots. He said that it could be done for an extra cost. This man does not know how to use a phone. I would have agreed to pay a little extra to have the floor look as nice as possible. He did apply the putty after the fact, which by the way did not closely match the floor color. Then he said that a clearcoat was applied. The following morning I arrivedat the house to find that the putty was still soft and could be easily tampered with. That would not be the case if a clearcoat was applied over dry putty. After an extensive arguement with this man He admitted that he did not wait for the putty to dry before applying the clearcoat. Therefore the putty absorbed the liquid instead of creating a seal over the top as desired. This man CUTS CORNERS wherever possible. Finally the moulding was to be installed. Bob himself arrives to complete the job. I had some questions for him which led to an arguement after he repeatedly tried to talk over me. He left the moulding on the floor and left without completing the job. I paid him for the work that was completed and agreed to install the moulding myself. At this point it was not a surprise to me to find that the moulding was cut incorrectly and a few pieces were also missing. I would NEVER do buisness with this company again and I recommend that you don't either. Save yourself the headache and pay a real professional to do the work. I wish that I had.

Description of Work: Pegged hardwood floors sanded and refinished. Work done in timely manner and very neat and thorough. The floors look beautiful. He was careful to clean up and retouch where necessary and recommended a third coat of polyurethane which really made a difference. The floors were completed in less than a week and we could move in a day later.
