Description of Work: United refinished, reinforced and reupholstered a vintage adrian pearsall couch in leather that I supplied. Paul came to our house, provided an estimate and showed us some color swatches. He was very helpful and gave us good advice. The furniture was picked up on time a week later and they accommodate a last minute schedule change. The final product was gorgeous.

Description of Work: Service provided was very good. I needed window treatments for my bedroom and living room. The work performed was professional from the time Paul visited to discuss what I was looking to have done with windows to when his staff provided installation of the treatments. Paul made me aware of the pros and cons in terms of functionality as it applied to my particular window situation - have small and large air conditioners. There were no hassles and the job was completed within a month. His staff also reviewed how the blinds worked with me as they carefully got the custom blinds put up and tidied up as they worked. I am enjoying the elegance that has been added to my home.

Description of Work: I live in an old brownstone with oversized windows (43" x 107". I had been living with venetians blinds in an awful color which were useless in terms of blocking out light. Paul arrived equipped with a gigantic sample book, took his measurements, and the Hunter Douglas blackout shades I chose were ready in 3 weeks. The installer was on time, professional and quick, and his colleague took all the old blinds out to the garbage. I am delighted with both the service and the results.

Description of Work: We needed to replace a rather large shade in our den and then have the shade in our kids bedroom (Hunter Douglas also) cleaned and fixed. United Decorators (Paul) came and took measurements immediately and was helpful in guiding the selection. While the cost for our Hunter Douglas was significantly more than the shade we previously had, we realized that it is a relatively big shade, and the quality is better and are happy with the purchase and the results. Paul and the United Decorators crew are professional and very helpful. They also were kind enough to hold onto my children's shade for several weeks while we were out of the country and repainting their room. Very happy overall and would recommend them for any decorating job.

Description of Work: I bought the $199 coupon from Angie's List for my daughter's apartment. It was supposed to give her $500 worth of Hunter Douglas shades. The salesman from United Decorators ("U.D.") went to her apartment, showed her a few samples he had with him, and suggested what she should buy. She decided on one double-width blind to cover 2 windows, which came to $1600 plus installation. In addition to the $199 I had already paid to Angie's List, he required that she pay him a $500 deposit right then and there, which she did. However, as $1600 plus tax and installation, for 2 windows, which she had to choose just from tiny samples was confusing, she decided to go to a Hunter Douglas showroom near her apartment in NYC, which there were at two Janovic Plaza locations in NYC. Janovic had the COMPLETE line of Hunter Douglas shades and blinds which showed HUNDREDS of choices of fabrics and styles, not in little swatches, but in actual size. Janovic's prices were hundreds of dollars less than United Decorators prices. For PLAIN shades (that my daughter also needed for two additional windows) that U.D. wanted $400 each, Janovic was charging $200 each for the exact same shade. U.D. said they could not match those prices and we would actually pay less from the neighborhood stores than U.D. which is in Brooklyn, even with the "discount," so we decided to buy instead directly with our local Janovic store.

Description of Work: Angie's List Big Deal written as "$199 for $500 of Hunter Douglas Custom Shades, Blinds, Shutters and More". United Decorators would not uphold deal as written. I had only intended on purchasing $500 worth of blinds for my daughters' room. Spoke with owner of United Decorators who told me I had to purchase more than $500. I told him I did not need more than that. I had intended on paying basically $200 for $500 worth of blinds only, not say $1,700 for $2,000 worth of blinds. I have not heard from him or anyone from United Decorators since my phone call with him.

Description of Work: Provider arrived with samples. Attempted to influence what I should order. Was very short with his time and attention. Showed me 2 choices. Did not attempt to find a suitable solution for me. What he offered, including the discount of $500, was too expensive.
