Description of Work: The woman taking the calls at United Upholsterers was very nice, said her husband, Paul, would be in touch. He called and arranged to come by and talk to us about window treatments, gave us a three-hour window. He arrived after the three-hour window, though he had called to keep us somewhat apprised of his ETA on the way. When he arrived, he looked at our windows, measured, and recommended a product/service that would have cost us $2,000. We could not have covered even one window for the $500 value of our coupon, and we had hoped to cover a few. If the price had been reasonable, we would have covered more and paid for it, but we found the price to be astoundingly high. (We subsequently priced out another brand, Levelor, at Lowes for about 1/5 of the price.) He seemed surprised that we were surprised. Apparently Hunter Douglas is the "Cadillac" of window treatments. We don't need the Cadillac. I think the coupon should be clearer about how little $500 will go for "custom" Hunter Douglas blinds. I'm not sure what "custom" means, as Lowes offers the same service (measuring and installation) and charges far less.

Description of Work: Paul, United Decorators' representative, arrived at the appointed time to discuss products and give me an estimate. He was very courteous and professional. Unfortunately, due to a personal financial issue that arose, I am currently unable to follow through with a purchase.

Description of Work: Their tech deinstalled a 1950s george nelson bookcase. He was fast, competent, careful and helpful. All around excellent -- I will use them when I set it up. They were also fast and flexible with the service. All star service. Thank you!

Description of Work: I called United Decorators and tried to set up an appointment to get an estimate for window treatments for my apartment. I explained to Dalia that I would be driving in from some distance to meet them so I needed a firm appointment. Instead Dalia told me that I should give them my cell number so they could call me to cancel if they decided not to come. I do not do business with a firm whose policy is to cancel on the customer. Instead I called Manhattan Shade who are courteous and want my business.

Description of Work: A gentleman brought swatches for slip covers, I chose one, and the slip covers were delivered. The material selection was not extensive but the quality was good if not excellent.

Description of Work: We had a pair of antique club chairs once belonging to my grandmother. Paul's company, based in Brooklyn picked up and delivered the chairs in Westchester County. Their work exceeded my expectations. The quality and attention to details was superior! The price was more than fair! I will use United Decorators in the future to redo another upholsterer's botched, shoddy work on an antique couch.

Description of Work: The owner came to my apartment with fabric samples for a chair I wished to recover. I had told him I wanted indoor/outdoor fabric and he brought the correct samples. He helped me pick out a good fabric. It was so good to be right in the room with the chair. I also had an ottoman to be recovered but I already had the fabric for that. He did not charge me a percentage on using my own fabric which many companies do. He sent over someone to pick up the furniture pieces who showed up when he said he would. The work was completed in a timely way. The extra fabric was returned to me as I had asked. I gave a B for punctuality but that was because he said another client had taken the fabric book for indoor/outdoor fabrics and hadn't returned it yet so our first meeting was delayed. I gave a C on price but I actually think by Manhattan standards his prices were quite fair, but can't calll them good. Very happy with recovered wing chair, large ottoman and two chair cushions.

Description of Work: We had two sofas covered in leather (we purchased the leather) and John recovered them. The work is excellent. In addition, not listed above, our movers damaged some furniture and he and his associates refinished and repaired the damaged pieces to perfection. We also had other pieces recovered. In all cases, the work has been excellent.

Description of Work: this is a most amazing upholsterer. They did magic with two living room chairs and made them new again. The eye for detail was extraordinary. The piping, kick pleats and arm covers were expertly done. Paul had patience and a great eye for color. I would highly recommend them for any upholstery needs.

Description of Work: I had a sofa reupholstered as well as an antique chair. The owner came on time to review the job and provide an estimate. After I accepted, the truckers were prompt for the pickup and very careful in removing the items. The job was completed when promised. There was a bit of repair work on the antique chair and they did an excellent job. The sofa looks terrific as does the chair. i am very pleased and would definitely use them again. Prices are reasonable,too.

Description of Work: United re-upholstered a very important chair of mine. I wanted to re-upholster only the seat, and with leather. Paul and his team picked up the chair at my ap't in midtown, and if I am correct returned it within 5 or so days. They did an excellent job, and were easy and pleasant to deal with. I would recommend them and use them again.

Description of Work: We had drapes made for our living room and roman shades for our den. Paul of United Decorators came one Sunday and brought a selection of fabrics. We told him the styles we wanted and he drafted designs and we okayed them. He was very accommodating. The roman shades were not made by his company but by Hunter Douglas. The living room drapes were lovely but the installers did not install them correctly the first time - they installed them so that the jabots hung about six inches from the wall. The installers were adamant that this was the way they always install them and I said I didn't like the way they looked. I had them call Paul and he said he would come by at a later date to take a look at them. I had the feeling that the installers felt they could get away with it because I was a woman. Eventually they came back and installed them correctly but I had to get my boyfriend on the phone to tell them how it should be done. The roman shades had to be returned once because they didn't hang properly. But Paul was very nice about removing them and having Hunter Douglas make another set. All in all we were very pleased with Paul and United Decorators.
