We ended up buying the aforementioned apartment and the flaws we noted prior to repurchasing were indeed major issues requiring major renovations prior to us being able to move in. I don't think this woman was evil. I just think she needs to rethink her career path- she seemed uneducated in Real Estate and easily intimidated by other brokers. She also seemed to have her eyes on the commission and not on the well being of her charges. If you're an experienced buyer, she has a lot of knowledge of the different neighborhoods and can be useful. If you need someone to walk you through your first purchase and someone you can just for good advice, I wouldn't use them.
Description of Work: We worked with this agency when searching for our first home. We were first time home buyers and they sold us on their services saying how they catered to such a demographic. Knowing that in NY, Real Estate is a hard game, we also performed quite a bit of research on our side to try to educate ourselves. I'm glad we did because I'm not sure what, if any, services Realty Collective provided to us. First strike was that the agent offered to take us around Brooklyn in her car. Only problem was that the car was 'classic' (an old mustang) and never seemed to work. She was very knowledgeable of BK neighborhoods, but was not as well versed with real estate. When we found an apartment we liked (found on our own through the NY Times), she seemed intimidated by the buyers broker. She submitted our first offer $10k over what we had requested and when we pointed out flaws in the apartment and I suggested that we have the apartment inspected, she called us 'uneducated buyers' and said that no one in NY buildings get inspections and that we would offend the building and hurt of chances of getting the apartment to even suggest that.
