George and Brian are consummate professionals. They really care about their work. The project was far more complicated than it sounds. This was essentially a complete redo of our entire apartment except for the kitchen, and we lived here during the work. We had what our super termed the worst walls in the building - peeling, cracked, old water damage, paint hanging from the ceilings in stips..it was horrible. A prior professional paint job started peeling in just a year. Now we have beautiful walls. One room in particular, had a wall that was bowed out from old water damage. We did not have the additional budget for sheet rock replacement. George and Brian wanted it perfect (George likes to say flawless) and they removed a section of the wall, did whatever they did, and now you can not see where an entire quite large wall used to bow. We've undergone several projects in the past and never experienced this level of customer service. They always either answered right away when we called or called back in a reasonable time frame. Their workers were on time competent. They were open to questions and suggestions, and always willing to explain why or why not something was advisable. They could not get to one room as we had building related problem that needed to be fixed first - We're looking forward to seeing them again and to having that room look as good as everything else does. I would use them again if I ever move and need work done. My only regret is that I did not take before pictures, no one who did not see my apartment before would believe what it looked like pre Picasso!! Thanks guys...

Removal and replacement of all base and picture molding, some replaced with crown molding. Repair of damaged sheetrock in bathroom. Painting of bathroom. Recaulking of section of kitchen molding. Base perimeter of kitchen back splash re-grouted.

Marvelous experience. I called for an estimate; George was prompt in getting back to me, and scheduled the job fast for a reasonable price. Once he and Sonny arrived on-site, there was more patching/evening-up of the walls than they'd expected, but the price stayed the same and George also found a way to save me some ducats on the materials. They arrived promptly, finished promptly, kept things neat while working, were a pleasure to have around, and most importantly, they did a GREAT job with the paint -- the rooms look completely refreshed and professional. The job felt collaborative: they made suggestions and helped me think through minor decisions, and everything turned out fantastic. Professional, friendly, top-notch work. -- Sarah D. Bunting

For both jobs this company was VERY professional, neat, did what they said they would do all at a very comprehensive level. The ceiling looks perfect: level, even like there had been no damage. They came to the job when they said they would and finished in a timely fashion. They are very easy to work with.I recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Repair and paint living room ceiling after ceiling water leak from rain...covered all of living room furniture and walls AND FLOOR so there was NO PAINT MESS. A few years ago this company painted the outside of my house and did a spectacular job: powerwashed, scraped, 2 coats of paint, fixed rotting soffits, repaired broken tudor style woodwork.

They were very expensive. The guy, who came out, made me feel that the price was fair and reasonable and that no other company could do the work for less. However, I felt that it was expensive for a small bathroom. Later, I got the bathroom extended and renovated by another company, which didn?t cost me as much as what this company had quoted me. I am not saying that his quality was bad; it was just that his price was a little high. Also, it took a week and a half for him to get to me. However, he came out on time. I will not use this company again in the future.
Description of Work: Picasso Home Improvement gave me an estimate for my bathroom remodeling, four months ago.
Brian is a master craftsman, who is highly skilled, meticulous & did an outstanding job. The quality of work & his attention to detail is impeccable. George went above and beyond in accommodating me. He was very knowledgeable and was extremely patient with me during the decision process when choosing the right appliances, cabinets, tiles, etc. George helped me immeasurably every step of the way. After seeing the quality of work I received already by Picasso, I wanted to complete everything and I decided to move forward and have my entire house painted. I truly appreciated the patience and input that George and Brian provided for me that were possible on color schemes to beautify my home. I finally agreed and I am delighted with my decision. I'm always receiving compliments from neighbors, friends and family that come to my home. I do not have any regrets. This company most definitely cares about the workmanship and quality of work that they provide for homeowners. In my personal opinion, this is truly a professional group of guys, to say the least. Keep up the great work Picasso!!!
Description of Work: I was immediately impressed by Picasso's professionalism and visions they offered me for the complete renovation of my kitchen and bath. My kitchen and bath were gutted completely & rebuilt with wood cabinets, granite countertops, wood flooring throughout, plumbing & appliances installed, walls repainted, crown molding, kitchen lighting & fixtures installed.

Repairs were required for a reverse mortgage for my elderly mother-in-law's home, which was badly neglected and in disrepair. Overall, the job went smoothly and was done well. The inspectors for the mortgage went to the house today and were quite impressed with the work. Their pricing is tremendous. The workers are terriffic and George and Brian, the owners, couldn't be more pleasent. They do exactly what they say they will and are true professionals. I would reccomend them to everyone and I would definitly hire this company again.
Description of Work: Remove tiles from foyer and living room; install plywood; install new floor tiles; install new toilet (downstairs bathroom); repair and paint kitchen ceiling; paint kitchenette; sand and shellac steps (two flights); remove paneling, re-sheetrock, plaster, and paint walls, install medicine cabinet and light fixture (upstairs bathroom); install basement window; install basement step; install three window shades; remove garbage (lots of it!); and other stuff I probably missed.
They were extremely helpful, working with us through the estimation process with the insurance companies, responsive to calls, and flexible when we made a change in the order of work (swapping some minor floor repairs for the door, which was higher priority). The guys that did the plaster and paintwork were prompt and very professional and the whole team took a lot of care to protect our furniture and other areas of the apartment. The job looks great, the door is a really good match for the 1930s originals in the rest of our home, and the house was sparkling when they left. They vacuumed, even cleaned our wood floors (one week off floor cleaning duty for me). Ours was a smaller job and they were working on other projects at the same time, but still got done on time and were unfailingly polite.
Description of Work: Repaired and painted plaster ceiling and walls after water damage from a plumbing incident; supplied and hung a solid wood door in an existing door jamb.

George, Brian and Rob did a great job on our project. From the initial meetings to the finishing touches, they were friendly, professional and informative. We were out of town for a portion of the job and we received regular phone calls from George or Brian to update us on problems, developments and general progress. They were very respectful of our neighbors (we even received complements from neighbors on the cleanliness and quietness of our contractors!) The quality of work was superb and our bathrooms are truly transformed. Even with a few glitches presented by a very old and convoluted plumbing system, Picasso was able to complete our renovation in a timely manner and only slightly over the original budget we discussed. I highly recommend them to anyone considering a renovation.
Description of Work: Picasso renovated our two bathrooms. One was straight renovation and the other was the expansion of a half-bath into a full (addition of a shower.)

It went beautifully. Although this was a small job compared to the previous work they had done for us, they approached it in the same manner- helpful, professional, on time, neat and at a good price. It is such fun to watch Brian perform his miracles-he even got our kitchen cabinets that hadn't closed properly in 20 years to stay shut.
Description of Work: We had the guys back again to do some small jobs. We needed radiators covers replaced, electrical wiring done including installing a new outlet in the kitchen and fixing a doorbell that hadn't worked in quite some time. We also had them sand, prime and paint our kitchen cabinets and paneling.
Having recently retired we found our house in need of repair and we wanted to make it senior friendly but we did not know where to start. We asked friends for recommendations ,read the reviews on Angie's list, contacted Picasso Home Improvement and asked for estimates. They came, we discussed, they gave us an estimate, we agreed to it and they started work. We are thrilled with our renovations. They did excellent work. They explained everything, carried through on what they promised and offered suggestions and alternate ways of doing things. They were always on time, there were no hidden costs, they were extremely neat, always straightening up at the end of the day and were very careful about our pets. Aside from the beautiful work that they did, they were willing to accommodate our add ons. As the work progressed we saw other things that we would like to have done that we had not originally asked them to do. They were willing to sit down each time and discuss and give us estimates. We did a number of add ons but felt no pressure when we decided to wait on some. We are looking forward to having them come back as soon as we are able. They are great guys, extremely professional as well as gifted craftsmen.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom renovation: gutted room, designed new room, replaced tub with shower, replaced toilet, medicine cabinet, vanity and lighting. beautiful new ceiling that they designed and framed opening for skylight, wonder board, moisture res sheet rock, ceramic tile, grab bars in shower, customized vanity, installed and stained new door. Hallways: Removed old carpet on stairs, sanded and polyurethaned stairs, banister and side bench, repaired spindle on stairs and replaced molding on top step, painted spindles, repaired all existing water damage -ceilings and walls, new green sheet rock, primed and painted walls and ceilings. Bedroom: replaced ceiling fan and repaired and sheet rocked hole (existing water damage) in ceiling, replaced glass in French Doors Kitchen:put down plywood and installed new vinyl tiles. removed wallpaper. skim coated walls, primed and painted walls, removed and installed range hood, repaired grids and installed suspended ceiling, new light fixtures, repaired leak under sink, removed old appliances and installed new dish washer and range. Took us to buy materials.
Shortly after the contractor started work, it turned out there was more interior damage that could be seen but the contractor removed whatever was not reusable. One good point was that the ceiling support system could be reused, a sort of small balancing point. The work then proceeded to reestablish the ceiling and walls, floor system and corridor electrical work. As the painting proceeded it was evident that the work would not look good unless the doors were painted and what I felt was a fair and reasonable price was negotiated for the extra work not priced in the original estimate. New circuits were then run into the rental unit. The finish painting turned out very nice.
Description of Work: This renovation work was for a service corridor that served as access to the rental unit as well as the utility/boiler room. The ceiling, wall surfacing and flooring were entirely removed, leaving only the ceiling support system. Electrical upgrading including new corridor wiring and empty conduits for future circuits to the rental unit were installed above the new ceiling, with new corridor lighting. New sheetrock ceiling and walls were installed, taped and speckled. A steel door to the boiler room was reset to swing freely. A new tile floor was installed over a plywood. sub floor. New base molding was installed. A portion of the new circuits for the rental unit were installed at this time. The new ceiling and walls were painted. The contractor was very liberal in making adjustments to the scope or work without an increase in price. There were a few doors that were excluded from the original scope of work and estimate. These were finally painted for an additional cost which I felt was reasonable.

This was the first time I?d done something like this, so I was worried about a bunch of things. Will these guys do a good job? Will I overpay for the work? Will they be nice people? They?re going to be in my house, after all. Well, we had a very positive experience with Bryan and company. Our bathroom is not only completely redone and beautiful, but they worked with us to create a much more custom look to the whole thing. We had some really nice tiling done and a custom shower area buit was built for us. My wife is flipping out over it. She loves it. And it looks like they really finished the work, no rushing. I came out of this whole experience much more pleased than I would?ve originally thought. Thanks so much, fellas!
Description of Work: Complete demolition before full transformation of master bathroom. Reconfigured bathroom design plan. Removed and replaced all major fixtures, like the bathtub, sink and toilet. Removed and replaced all wall and floor tiling. Custom shower area built. Repainted remaining surfaces. Installed cabinetry.

George, Brian and their team, were wonderful from start to finish. We first contacted them to remodel our bathroom. They did such a beautiful job, with such attention to detail, that we decided to have them do our kitchen as well. What can I say... they were prompt, very neat, polite, knowledgeable. They made the stressful situation, of demo and construction, bearable. They conferred with us in a step-by-step fashion to ensure our happiness with the outcome of the job. We felt comfortable with them from the start. They were interested in what we had to say,and our happiness with the outcome of the work was of the utmost importance to them.I would hire them again in a second! We were given a very fair price, and in turn got a fabulous job!

I had currently renovated my kitchen and bathroom which I was extremely pleased and wanted to continue an upgrade the appearance of my entire residence. The next project l decided to tackle would be repairing all the spider cracks in my ceilings and walls. Picasso Home Improvement recommended a very thorough process of the work that would be done. I personally have plaster walls throughout my residence. Brian and George insisted that if l didnt follow their recommendation that I would be sorry in the long haul. Brian and George recommended if I did not plasterweld all my ceilings and walls regardless of what repair work they would do the cracks would always reappear. They insisted on this process. They did not want to cut any corners in my opinion. They educated me very much and l personally inquired about the method they recommended and was 100 percent agreable with them. I was relieved that I was dealing with professionals that considered my best interest first. They scraped and installed fibermesh tape to all cracks throughout my apartment. After all cracks were fixed the next phase was sanding and priming entire apartment with oil based primer for longevity. Brian and George recommended several colors that agree with the ambiance of my apartment. I am so pleased with the quality of work that Brian and George provided that l felt l was treated with the upmost respect and dignity that all paying clients should have the privilage to experience.
Description of Work: Repaired all spider cracks throughout ceilings and walls throughout my residence. Applied plasterweld applications to walls and ceilings. Primed entire apartment with oil based primer. Custom painted entire apartment of my choice.
During a time when money is tight and we all know the fear of employing the wrong contractors, thank goodness for Picasso Home Improvement! I simply couldn?t have been more pleased with the job they did for me and my family. George and Bryan, the two company heads, were no-nonsense, straight-talking fellows, who quoted me a fair price and stuck to it. We had the kitchen and master bathroom remodeled in our Brooklyn home, and my wife and I were genuinely pleased with the level of quality and attention to detail they brought to the work. I knew by the end of the second day we hired the right guys for the job, and I never worried about the job after that. And our confidence in them were rewarded with better than expected results. The craftsmanship and integrity of this company is sincerely worth recommending, which is why I joined Angie?s List. I just really wanted to recommend them. Their strongest asset, in my opinion, was the feeling that whatever was occurred on the project, they were going to explain it to me and work it out for me. It was understood that unexpected changes on the job might cost me more, but they did so many little things for me at no charge, that I just knew they were honorable men. Seriously, hiring Picasso was probably the best decision I made this year and I?m here to let anyone know about it who cares to listen! You won?t regret it!
Description of Work: Completely removed entire kitchen and bathroom. Updated existing plumbing and electric through out kitchen and bathroom. In the kitchen they leveled the floor with professional mud job, installed new ceramic tiles on floor and backsplash, along with new sheetrock on ceiling and walls. Custom built cabinetry through out kitchen, installed all new appliances and high hats and installed new base molding in kitchen area, prime and painted. In the bathroom installed tile in shower area up to ceiling and the remainder of the bathroom was tiled 4 feet around the entire perimeter of the bathroom. Installed jacuzzi tub along with sink and vanity. also replaced existing window with new Anderson window with new molding.
Had all the walls/ceilings of a 1925 townhouse redone: plastered, compound, skimcoated. Walls were cracked, biggest room was stuccoed. Sheetrocked one room where the walls were heavily damaged. Knocked out the wall between the kitchen and dining room, rerouted piping etc. Knocked out the back wall to put in a sliding glass door. Patched an air condition sleeve and bricked the front. Custom closet built in bedroom. Excellent work throughout. Easy to deal with. Highly recommended.

I was very hesitant to hire who l was going to use as my contractor but l felt extremely comfortable and at ease when I met the owners Picasso Home Improvements. They answered all my questions thoroughly and explained things to me in a professional manner that l expected and made it very easy for me on how the work was going to be performed which made it very clear as to which direction l would go in to hire as my contractor. In my personal opinion this group of guys is a competent diligent humble crew which has a lot of experience who l enjoyed working with and in my opinion are truly professionals. Brian is a seasoned veteran which is a blessing to any homeowner that retains his services. I also would like to add that Brian the carpenter which one of the owners of Picasso Home Improvements is phenomenal at his trade and you should be very lucky if you could retain him and do work at your residence. l will always move forward and do future renovations with Picasso Home Improvements which l feel comfortable and trust very much.
Description of Work: Picasso Home Improvements performed remodeling of my kitchen and bathroom at my residence. Basically as far as the bathroom is concerned they gutted out the entire bathroom. They updated the existing electric and plumbing. Wonderbourded shower area and greenbourded remainder of bathroom with moisture resistant green board to prevent mold from developing in future. Installed diamond shaped tiles throughout bathroom. Installed fixtures and tub of my choice. Demoed entire kitchen. Updated existing plumbing and electric in the kitchen. Leveled kitchen floor for tiles to be set. Installed back splash and kitchen cabinetry. Prime and painted entire kitchen. Custom made radiator cover and installed base moldings throughout kitchen.
Working with George is fun. He is full of energy and genuinely wants to make your vision a reality. We started work quickly after I contacted them, so I didn't have as much time to plan out the process as I had wanted. We ran into a problem early on due to a materials delay, which I chalk up to not enough upfront planning. But once we got all of the materials, the project was smooth. The quality was always fantastic and they were very willing to do custom work.
Description of Work: Renovation of full and half bath. The half bath was a cosmetic refresh including replacing the sink, toilet, lights, and re-tiling the floor. The full bath was a full demo that included raising the ceiling, putting in a new tub, tiling, new floors, custom built countertop, custom built storage cabinets, custom built shower shelves

Bathroom renovation: The renovation was never completed. As noted above they set the house in fire early in the bathroom renovation. Neither of the owners George or Brian were present at the time. The unsupervised workers did not call the fire department or wake my son initially. They went outside to get a garden hose instead. This likely allowed the fire to spread. They finally did wake my son who did escape from the house and called the fire department. A great deal of damage was done to my property. In spite of the fact that they told me they were bonded and insured I have found out that their insurance lapsed on 07/12/09 so they were not insured when they started the work on my home on 07/20/09. They were also very far behind on this project at the time of the fire. The porch renovation was never completed and was also far behind. Only the support for the structure and the floor had been completed. The original plan was to replace the colums supporting the house. They did not do that but spent two weeks fooling around resurfacing the columns. They requested money for supplies to complete the porch which I sent them however they did not purchased the supplies or complete the work. Two weeks prior to the fire I requested a summary of expenses and copies of reciepts as I was concerned about the amount of money they were requesting with the work being so far behind. They never gave me the information. They have not returned any of the $ 24,500.00 I paid them directly in spite of the fact that they only did the porch floor and the demolition of the bathroom. (The other monies noted above were supplies that I personally purchased for the bathroom) In summary: they were uninsured, they did not have the proper permits, they did not properly supervise the work, they set my house on fire and there was extensive damage, the work was far behind, they did not finish the work, supply me with receipts, or return any of my money. This has been a disaster for me and my family.
Description of Work: Renovation of a bathroom and porch never completed. In the process of installing the plumbing in my bathroom on 08/27/09 they set my home on fire. Workers were left without supervision. They were using blow torches without the benefit of a fire extinguisher. My son was sleeping in the house but did escape without harm. There was extensive damage to my seven bedroom house. The second bathroom and kitchen were completely destroyed. Six bedrooms, the dining room and foyer sustained significant damge. The ceilings and walls were destroyed in most of the rooms. the floors were also damamged. This took place five weeks after the work was started so the work was way behind schedule. ( They had promised to complete the pocrh and bathroom in 4 weeks). The only work done in the bath was the demolition and minimal plumbing. No electrical, walls etc. was ever done. The work was never comlpeted nor have they returned any of the money I paid them. They also revealed after the fire that they had not obtained a permit to do any of the work. I have found out since that they did not have insurance in spite of the fact that they assued me they did. Repair of porch: there was a rotted floor and support of the porch. The contractors replaced some of the wood beams supportong the porch and poured cement to provide additional support. They also replaced the floor of the porch as promised. The columns supporting the house were never replaced. The siderails and latticework and trim were not replaced. The job was never completed and no monies were returned.

We interviewed a few contractors before finally calling Picasso. None of the other contractors really understood what I wanted and trying to explain every detail to them was tedious. When Picasso came over they knew exactly what I wanted and actually had ideas for me that I had not thought of. The only thing that did not go right, is that I requested a frosted glass door on the closet and they mistakenly put in a clear door. They did not want to change the door out "because that would cut into their profit". So, they "frosted" it themselves by spraying this stuff on that didn't look quite right. I should have insisted they replace the door.
Description of Work: Picasso built a custom walk in cedar closet for me and my husband.
I arranged for their visit long distance - my tenants who dealt with them during the work, said they were great to deal with. They cleaned and mopped after finishing. Given the serious leak problem, they were very responsive - came a couple days after I called (called me when delayed for 1/2 hour so I could tell my tenants) and did the job right away (sign of the times...) Excellent communication. Very happy with the result and the experience as a whole.
Description of Work: They replaced parquet flooring that had buckled due to a shower leak in a nearby bathroom, fixed the hole in the shower tiling that caused the leak, installed tiles in the leaking area, fixed the glass shower door that was unstable and replaced closet sliding doors and a bathroom sliding door (existing doors were very hard to operate due to weight - they were mirrored).
