MELGA SALES

The booking process was smooth. Sharon was pleasant. But it went downhill from there. The first visit: the two workers arrived on time, and finished the job promptly. However, when I inspected the job, I noticed large globs and drips of glazing, bubbles around the drain, and streaking. The glazer, Johnny, told me that it was normal and that it would "wash off." Having never done a tub reglazing before, I believed him. I paid him and they left. The next day, the broker who was handling the sale of my apartment saw the work that was done and told me the globs and drips would not wash off, and to insist Melga come back and fix it. I texted Johnny and asked him to come back. He said he would arrive at 4pm the next day. He didn't arrive until 5:40. The second job he did was better, but still poor, as there were still visible streaks and drips. I told him that he needed to fix them, and he said he couldn't that evening, but that if I wasn't happy, I could have my money back. I called the office the next day and asked for my money back, and the office insisted that they have the opportunity to come out a third time to fix it. At this point, I couldn't stay in NY any longer. I had already extended my stay in NY an extra day to meet Johnny the second time (I had moved out of the city months earlier and was only in town to oversee the tub reglazing and some painting), and was no longer confident this company would do a good job a third time. Like the other reviewer mentioned, they also flushed a bunch of material down the toilet, and I had to scrape bits of it off the inside of the toilet. They were rude on the phone, accused me of lying about the quality of the work, and the office worker yelled at me for not contacting the office directly instead of talking to Johnny the first time I wanted it fixed. They're unprofessional, they lie, and they do shoddy work. Photos are from the first job.

I had some chips on my bathtub that I wanted to fix without reglazing the entire bathtub. Most reglazing companies didn?t want to just repair the chip and claimed that the color they would fix the chips with wouldn?t match the rest of the tub. I said that I just wanted to fix up the tub so that I could get a good price when I sold my apartment but still, no one wanted to do a a small job. Then I was referred to Melga Sales from Angie?s list. I told them what I wanted and they agreed to do it even though they could give no guarantee that the color would match and I agreed. They sent someone over named Ritchie who they said was an expert in mixing up color and he used two color whites to try to get the exact shade of my white bath tub. It came out an exact match and no one could ever tell the bathtub had been badly chipped in a couple of places. Ritchie was neat and courteous and I couldn?t be more pleased with the work, in fact I was surprised at how good it came out without my needing to reglaze the entire bathtub, since the rest of my bath tub aside from the chips was fine and looked like new.

Everything is going terrific with them. They are getting the job done well and I've been very impressed with them so far.

The gentleman was very nice and took the time to talk to me on the phone. The only drawback was that he wanted me to measure the shower myself. I feel that they should be doing that. The company I ended up using, didn't need me to measure.

Overall there were a few glitches. The biggest one was that the technician clogged my toilet by flushing some of the material instead of properly disposing of it. Someone snaked my stool after the work was done and pulled out a "glob"of the material used to coat the tile. I ended up having the toilet replaced because of that. Another issue centered around an appointment cancellation. The job was rescheduled by the company because the technician did not show up for work. This would not have been an issue if someone would have notified me in advance. However, I did not find out until after I had taken off work. After the technician did not show up at the scheduled time I called Melga only to find out that I had taken off work for nothing. Besides the issues mentioned above my bathroom looks pretty good now. The technician had to come a second time to cover some missed spots (which is when the clogged toilet incident occurred)

Angie's List sent me a list of tub reglazing companies and Melga Sales was on the list. My neighbor also used them and would give them an "A" as well. Thank you, Angie's List for this referral.

I called and spoke with Charlie at Melga Sales, I used them before for my shower door. They did a good job and decided I would use them for glazing.

Charlie and the staff at Melga sales were polite and accommodating. They promptly provided the paperwork needed for my co-op and did not have an extra charge for listing the co-op's name on the insurance. The re-glazer arrived an hour early but waited until we were ready. He was also very polite and careful to cover other items in our bathroom to keep them clean. He did a nice job repairing cracks, re-caulking, and re-glazing the tub. I called Charlie the next morning to fix a few dust specs that dried in the glaze and handle areas where it dripped a bit. He was very accommodating and dispatched the re-glazer back to our home the same day. The re-glazer was on time and fixed our outstanding issues. He had us inspect them to make sure it was to our satisfaction. The bathtub came out beautifully! I would definitely recommend them.

The two men who performed the job were very courteous, clean and organized. They quickly proceeded to protect all areas of bathroom before any of the spraying began. They connected an exhaust hose to the outside for the fumes. Unfortunately the first time their hose on the sprayer broke and the finish did not turn out as I expected. I called the company the next day to complain and have a technician come to inspect. They set up a date w/me immediately to have it redone without any hassle. The same two men returned and I showed the problem. They were gracious and completely agreed. They proceeded to sand the old glaze and protect everything for spraying. This time the tub came out beautiful! I would strongly recommend that future costumers make alternate plans to leave the premises once the work is completed since the fumes from the glazing are incredibly strong and toxic.

We dealt with Charlie, who gave an estimate, sent the reglazer to evaluate the job before it was done, scheduled the job very promptly, and followed up at every point in the transaction. Charlie was a pleasure to deal with and made doing business as smooth and seamless as our newly reglazed tub. He also sent out a very experienced person to do the actual reglazing, which came out beautifully. This was not the least expensive company I called, but the job had been botched by the subs from New York Kitchens and Baths, not once, but twice, so we told NYKB we'd find our own reglazers and subtract the cost from our final bill, which they agreed to. We wanted a quality job, and at long last, we got one from Melga Sales. We give Melga Sales and Charlie our very highest recommendation!
