LEWIS CONSTRUCTION & DETAILING

This winter was tough on the facade of my brownstone. The stairs, the footings of the wrought iron banister and many areas in the front well area required repairs. I also needed repairs to the main banister, an additional security screen on my entrance gate and needed to add a gate to the base of the stoop stairs to prevent loiterers. Terrence Lewis, of Lewis Construction, gave me an excellent price. He & his crew were on time, responsible, & always cleaned up the job site. His finished work is beautiful. The lines of the repaired masonry are excellent - clean corners & right angles. Over the years, the balustrades of the iron banister had suffered through numerous bad patch repairs - to the point that much of the top was a sad mixture of cement, rusted iron & black paint. Terrence removed much of the old cement & used new iron pieces to recreate the original balustrade. He also cleaned up the iron railing, patching with Bondo & sanding away bad repairs & old paint. Now my 100 year old banister looks amazing and I'm not worried about rain & snow causing more deterioration. The first time he added the security screen to my security gate I was not happy with the look. Terrence respectfully listened to all of my suggestions & gladly re-did the work to my specifications. My requests made the job more complicated & he did not ask for an additional fee. Security screen looks perfect. For the security gate across the bottom of my steps, Terrence met me at a salvage yard to help choose a piece that would work on my stoop. He could easily have made a new gate for me (that would have matched the look of the original banister), but he knew that I needed to save money & I wanted something old. I purchased a gate and a mismatched section of iron railing. Terrence cleaned up both pieces, cut them to size, welded them together & installed across the base of the stairs. Security gate is beautiful & functional. We have had many neighbors complimenting us on our new gate. The job also included painting all finished work. I would happily recommend Terrence to anyone.
