We contacted Manny a few months before we needed 2 marble mantles to be installed and we went to his showroom in Brooklyn and showed us our options. He had probably several 100 mantels to choose from: white marble, grey marble, red marble, slate, soap stone etc. We opted for 2 grey marble mantels and then worked with the contractor who is fixing the rest of the house to find a time that would be best for Manny to come instal. Our contractor recommended using bluestone hearths, but Manny strongly disagreed and though it would look weird, we should use black honed granite and he event sent us a sample se we could see it. We went with the black granite. Manny came to instal a few weeks later and he arrived on a Tuesday and got both mantles and hearth stones installed. We had originally opted out of the black metal inserts and Manny sent us pictures of the mantles when he was done and said he'd be back Wednesday to finish some plastering etc. The fireplaces looked unfinished with out the metal inserts as there was exposed brick inside, so we called Manny and asked if we could then put in the inserts. He said he has inserts but there would still be a gap between the mantel and cast iron insert so we needed to chose a stone to cover it or it'll look weird. We ended up choosing the same black granite that was used on the hearthstone to fill the gap. **Note: Manny never suggested painting it black like some people do** Event with all those changes the fireplaces were completed on Wednesday afternoon! We came to see them and Manny had installed beautiful fireplaces and he also extended the black granite hearth stone to the back of the firebox and cemented in the other sides of the firebox so it is read for the gas insert (which he did not have to do!!). So I full recommend him for any fireplace/chimney work he really is an expert and does very high quality work for a reasonable price.

we worked with manny to find an antique/ reclaimed marble mantel and cover for our brownstone. although a bit disorganized, manny has a large inventory of old fireplaces and was very helpful in finding us what we wanted. he installed the mantel in our living room including embedding marble in the floor. not cheap but it really made our room.

Overall, it was a good experience. Manny was true to his price and did good work.
Description of Work: We hired Manny LaSalle for three different jobs, between June 2010 and April 2011. We paid him separately for each job, but the overall price reflects the total for all three things. 1. Brickwork of an area approximately 12x10 feet, plus concrete pour of about 8x12 feet: we demolished a shed in the back of our house, leaving us with a hole in the facade that we hired Manny to brick in. He did a great on the masonry --- which has been up for about a year now (it was the first thing we hired him for) and still looks terrifc. When we pulled down the shed, we found that there was nothing but a dirt floor underneath; Manny filled that in with concrete, pitching the grade so that water runs into our outside drain. 2. Chimney flue repair: when we bought the house, the water was heated by oil boiler. We decided to put in two gas-fired hot water tanks (one for us, one for tenants), which necessitated venting from basement to chimney. Manny installed a stainless steel vent for us. 3. Interior concrete pour: we took out the fixtures of an existing bathroom and converted it to a mud room. We decided to go with a concrete floor, which Manny poured. His first attempt did not turn out that well (there was some streaking). He fixed the problem by sanding down the floor about an inch, then re-pouring. Floor looks good now.
