Roy, the Lamp Surgeon, rewired the lamp, but a week later it blew out another bulb. Roy did not have a solution to the problem when I called to tell him that another bulb blew out after he had rewired the lamp. We had to replace the lamp.

Roy showed up 15 min early to the initial appointment and I would normally say I appreciate this. however, I was in the shower and didn't buzz him in. It happened to be an incredibly cold day (I think it was 'real feel' below 0) unintentionally making him wait outside. This started us off on the wrong foot, he seemed understandably peeved. Roy was very knowledgeable in his evalutation of the lamp and was able to identify the maker and model even giving me a history of the company that made it. He had to take the lamp back to his shop for repair due to it's rewiring needs. It took less than a week for the repairs to be complete (I think he called within 4 days). He delivered the lamp back promptly and within the time-frame he gave me. Although Roy acted professionally and prompt I feel that I could have had the same rewiring done for a far lessor (-50%) cost after further research. I feel taken advantage of after reading reviews and researching further (this was my fault for not researching prior to this service). Due to this I will not reach out for his services again and have learned my lesson. It was also a dismaying revelation to see a review on Angie's List that reported the Lamp Surgeon Inc. as repairing/rewiring 2 lamps and fixing a 3rd for less than it cost my one lamp!!

Actually I think I used him before I was a member of angies list. Important for me was the fact that he made a house call!

I asked if they had shades, and they showed me sample fabrics for custom shades, but they were very expensive, so I did not go the custom shade route.

I received an appointment for a two-hour time frame easily when I called. The office called a day in advance to confirm times. Repair man arrived promptly. He was polite, pleasant, efficient, and he cleaned up after himself. The original appointment was for two lamps, but he repaired a third that had developed the same problem during the same visit. The cost was as estimated. The work was completed within the original time frame.

It went very well. He arrived promptly within the time frame given, which was between noon and 2 PM. He was very knowledgeable and told us what to do to avoid costly lamp repairs in the future. Instead of just fixing the broken switch on our floor lamp, he suggested that a dimmer be installed to avoid problems in the future. We asked him to install a dimmer on a matching floor lamp to avoid having identical problems with its switches; and he cheerfully did this for us. He also told us the maximum wattage to use on each lamp, which was extremely helpful. He charged us $65 to repair each table lamp, $95 to fix and install a dimmer on one floor lamp, and $75 to install a dimmer on a matching floor lamp. I thought the prices were reasonable; especially considering the fact that we did not have to lug the lamps in a cab and pick them up at a future date. He arrived at our apartment, worked quickly and cleanly, and left. It was a great experience all around!

I called their phone number and left a message. I received a return call within an hour and set up an appointment for that afternoon. Roy came, was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable and told me my options. Because the lamp had a built in dimmer in the middle of an extremely thin, six foot tall stem, if I wanted a dimmer he would have to install a floor dimmer. Because the lamp is plugged into an outlet controlled by a wall switch and I never use the dimmer, he was able to disconnect the built-in dimmer and just rewire the lamp. He was in and out in less than an hour, did an excellent job and was very neat about his work. I would never hesitate to recommend The Lamp Surgeon and would definitely use them again .
