+ -1 moreUnbelievably unprofessional. The repairman returned my call about asking for somone to come and make a quote on a repair needed at my office. I had a handyman that had tried to fix our problem and couldn't. Then I hired another plumber to come and fix the problem and they never showed. When I explained this, the technician said he didnt want to come out and get involved since we have so many people coming to help us. I literally had two people and one of them couldn't fix it (not a plumber) and one of them did not show up. He was extremely rude on the phone. If this is indicative of their service, I would not at all want them anywhere near my place of business. I would be embarrassed by an out burst like his if my clients were around.
Description of Work: They didn't even come out to make a quote...

+ -1 moreHe is a really great plumber. They put a new pump motor and a check valve on it. Overall, the job went fine. They improved the situation. They didn't fix my problem. He didn’t guarantee he will be able to fix my problem. The only problem that I had with them this time is that I had to call them several times for two weeks and I didn’t hear back. I wouldn't call a different plumber.

This was at the height of the winter cold, so we went to a hotel for a day and a half, but he worked quickly and we were able to go back in the house by the evening of the second day. He cleaned up, and checked all the radiators and fixed the ones that were not working. He made a follow-up visit to check that all was well. It took a bit for the old tanks to be removed, as the snow had to abate, and it could only be done when alt side parking was available,but that went fine, too.
Description of Work: Conversion of my oil heat system to gas. he purchased and installed new burner and boiler, new water heater, and new gas service. He arranged for the removal of the old tanks.

+ -1 moreHe is handing his business over to a son-in-law and his son-in-law raised his prices tremendously. It is really hard because I am very fond of John. I felt that the last bathroom estimate that I got from Joe his son-in-law was way out of line and I did not use him for that. He did some demolition work, but I changed plumbers in the middle of the job because his estimate was not acceptable to me. My interaction with Joe wasn’t satisfactory. I can get John over in a second and the quality of their work has always been good.
Description of Work: I have used John Hlad Plumbing & Heating Inc. for years for plumbing service. The last interaction was about 1.5 years ago because I was renovating my ground floor apartment that I was renting out and he gave me an estimate to completely re-do the bathroom.

+ -1 moreThey are very responsive if you have a problem. They come and take a look at it and work out how to deal with it. They seem to charge fair rates. Their work seems to be good. They are licensed plumbers so they are not the cheapest in town. But they are more reliable then they might be otherwise. I think they do better work than the average. They come when they say they will.
Description of Work: They checked our heating system for the coming winter and replaced the hot water heater.

+ 1 moreJohn and his fellow plumbers come to the house when they say they will, they conduct their plumbing/heating services efficiently and charge a reasonable price.
Description of Work: For the March, 2010 service, John replaced a pilot sensor. John replaced our old furnace (which came with the purchase of our new house) with a new one about five years ago. He worked efficiently and we have absolutely no complaints. We've used him on a yearly basis for the past 15 years since we moved to our new house from our apartment for our pre-winter furnace service. We've also used his company for plumbing service for the past 20+/- years in both our former apartment (plumbing) and current house (water heater, plugged drains, replacement of faucets and toilets as required, etc.) and have been satisfied each time with his work. He's very experienced and is able to analyze problems quickly and solve them!.

+ 0 moreWhen we redo our bathroom we will definitely be calling John Hlad- their advice was spot on and they have won our loyalty.
Description of Work: We had a clogged drain somewhere and nasty water was backing up into our tub. This was of course on a Sunday when we were to have guests over and were much dismayed when our dishwater appeared in our bathtub- in any case- it didn't warrant emergency service but we wanted to address the issue right away. We called several plumbers, and Joe from John Hlad called back very quickly, was very nice and was willing to discuss the problem and options over the phone. He even went to far as to recommend that despite his complete willingness to come over, we should get our super to look at it, since the issue was most likely deep in our wall or floor, which meant it was our management company's ultimate responsibility to pay for. Our super ended up calling in a plumber on the company's dime, and it saved us a lot of hassle to handle the issue that way. I was very impressed that Joe would be so honest with us, and he also quoted a much more reasonable price that detailed the fees for several different scenarios, rather than an hourly rate with no idea of how long it might take, etc...

(Some companies charge you to come out, and don't want to take the smaller job). Overall very pleased. A very honest and professional company!

I checked Angie's List and, that evening, called John Hlad because of the reviews provided by other customers and his proximity to my home. He said he could come out the next day between 1 and 3. Since I was at work, I asked my tenant to let him in and to tell him that I would give him a credit card number over the phone when the work was complete. The plumber showed up on time, did the work quickly and, according to my tenant, professionally. They took my credit card number over the phone and the rate was reasonable. Simple, efficient, friendly, and prompt.
Description of Work: Relieved clogged, slow drains in bathtub and bathroom sink.

+ -1 moreI found their truck outside my building and on a whim, I asked if they could help me with a backed up toilet. They agreed to come and worked with the snake to see if they could get the toilet working. It still wasn't working. They told me I had the option of removing the toilet and seeing if they could dislodge the clip that way but they could not guarantee that it would work. The other, more expensive option was to get a new toilet for $550. I felt that my current toilet worked just fine so I opted to try just having the toilet removed. They came and did the job as promised and also looked into another problem I was having with my faucet handles in the tub and sink.
Description of Work: I had dropped a large hair clip down the toilet. The first tried to remove it with a snake but it wouldn't budge so they came back to remove the toilet and dislodge the object.

+ -1 moreOne of the boilers in my house wasn't working, and consequently one of my tenants didn't have heat. John Hlad responded very quickly and came over within 2 hours of my call. John repaired the boiler -- it had a defective wire which was preventing the pilot from lighting, as well having gas cylinders which were mis-alligned. He finished everything in 20 minutes or so. He also checked my other boilers to make sure everything was ok. He also informed me that one of the other boilers would have to be replaced soon. John was very courteous, friendly and knowledgable and I would definitely hire him again.
