+ -1 moreMs. Fogel was very helpful and professional. She had a great deal of knowledge on the subject matter and offered solutions to me although I was not a client. Unfortunately, due to zoning laws I was not able to complete my project but I would strongly recommend Ms. Fogel.
Description of Work: I called Ms. Fogel inquiring about a basement rennovation project and she provided me with a lot of guidance even though she could not assist me.

While her demeanor was professional, when we told her what we needed, she said that she couldn't do anything to provide us with either more counter space or more cabinets. She said she would procvde help to pick our counter top, floor and cabinets but otherwise she wouldn't be able to rework the space.
Description of Work: We are in the process of interviewing architects/designers to help redesign our small 6 ft. wide galley kitchen. We need additional counter space as well as storage. We consulted with her concerning her ideas about our space as well as the services she offered. She came to our house once.

Description of Work: I would have hired Jan Fogel in a New York minute, because her experience, professionalism, and concern were exactly what we needed to solve our structural problems. But unfortunately, the logistics didn't work out : our property was not within the area that she customarily serves. What Jan did instead -- for no charge!! -- was provide many hours of professional expertise: reviewing codes and building plans; making suggestions; giving kind reassurances; and recommending lawyers (which Angie's list does not do). All of these things reduced my stress level and enabled us to make progress on our situation. I would have answered Angie's List's request for this recommendation many months ago if Jan had been our architect, because everything would have been signed, sealed and delivered many months ago, saving me enormous amounts of time and money. But as I write this, things are still not resolved for us, and we are still waiting for final approval. For all of the above reasons, I recommend Jan Fogel without reservations and envy those fortunate enough to obtain her services.

+ -1 moreMs. Fogel's estimate to draw plans to remodel my bathroom and bedroom was $3000 to $4000. She explained that moving a wall was a structural change and cost more. I told her I was not sure whether or not I would move the wall. Her price was firm. I felt the price was high and inconsistent with what other people paid on Angie's list. Estimates to remodel the rooms were under $20,000 and I felt $4000 for plans was more than I wanted to spend, so I did not hire her.
Description of Work: I spoke with Jan Fogel by telephone to get an estimate for drawing plans to remodel a bathroom and a bedroom, which may or may not include moving an interior wall.

Description of Work: She helped by drawing up plans to remodel our kitchen and bathroom and helped us pick out some of our design elements for the bathroom. For the work on the bathroom, we used a contractor she recommended with whom we were very satisfied. She helped oversee the entire bathroom remodel. We will work with her again on our kitchen.

She was willing to come out to Staten Island and analyze our situation free of charge even tho she realized that we would probably need someone local to handle the vagaries of our borough building department if we decided to go forward with our plans. I felt a real connection and would have loved to have worked with her on our project.
Description of Work: Consultation on need for permits and possible outlines of project to do a one story bump out and kitchen remodel.

She goes out of the way to make herself available, not only as an architect but also in helping me pick out the materials needed at various stores. And she was the person between me and the contractors and she made sure my thoughts and her concerns were shared with the contractors. She is the best.
Description of Work: I've been working with her for about 8 weeks. She did the drawings for the remodeling of my house and held my hand through the whole experience.

+ -1 moreShe maximized the natural light which is difficult to do in brownstones. She made several visits during demolition and construction, with the problems that arose. We got more than what we paid in terms of value for the project.
Description of Work: She designed the bathroom, and she excellent with construction of the project. She gave us many design options with using existing space.
