My husband and I went to the store together and told the salesgirl that we were looking for a sturdy bed, since we are both big people. She assured us that the bed we were contemplating purchasing was very sturdy, the sturdiest in the store. We tried the floor model, which seemed fine, and we purchased the bed. When the bed was delivered, the platform was cut in four pieces and had to be assembled, which is what we requested. Instead of a sturdy platform, however, we saw that the platform was one-quarter inch plywood which was stapled to the frame. The following morning, as my husband sat on the edge of the bed putting on his shoes, he could hear the thin plywood cracking. I called up the store and explained the problem with the bed. They referred me to the district manager, who told me that for an additional $80.00, they could put another layer of plywood on. After I went home and looked at the bed again, I saw that the plywood actually had a 5 inch crack in it. I called back, and insisted that they had to come back and put the additional plywood on at no charge. They reluctantly agreed. When the manager came (two weeks later), he looked at the platform and accused my husband of sitting on the platform directly, instead of on the mattress. He felt that this was the only way the plywood could have cracked. When my husband showed him the area where the plywood was coming up, the manager commented "Well, it is stapled!" This shows that the workmanship was poor, since the manager was surprised to see staples rather than screws or nails. The manager and his assistant installed a second layer of plywood with screws, and it now seems sturdy enough. Although the company did fix the problem in the end, I feel that they did so reluctantly with a bad attitude. If the furniture was not a good fit for us, they should never have sold it to us. The workmanship was shoddy and sloppy. The manager was insulting and not eager to please his customers. This was not the first purchase that we have made at this store, but it will most certainly be the last. I refuse to spend money with a company that treats its customers so poorly.
Description of Work: I purchased a king-sized platform bed and matching nightstands.
