It took them 2 attempts to get it right, but they delivered on the promise. Our old bluestar stove was in need of a long overdue service with several parts that needed to be replaced. After about a month of waiting for parts, they came in and did the work. However, we noticed that a replacement burner that was supposed to be 22k btu was replaced with a 16k btu burner. We notified them, and they were quick to respond and fix the problem. Their customer service could be a bit better, and they could make sure that the order is fulfilled as promised the first time around. Overall I am happy with the work that was done. Will use them again if the need arises.

The service call was for a viking range that is still under warranty. The first trip, they verified the issue and ordered the replacement part. The second trip they installed the replacement part. Everything went smoothly from the start - the woman who answered the phone was very pleasant and helpful - even offered to submit all my warranty paper work (yes, really - she was that helpful). The service team was also very nice - they cleaned up after themselves and seemed to know what they were doing.

Assessment ? Avoid These Price Gougers In June 2013 I had Elkay Service Corp. to my Manhattan apartment to fix a Viking 30-inch self-cleaning oven. Based on that experience, I ?ll never use Elkay again. In this instance Elkay wildly overcharged for parts and i nflated the man-hours worked so as to raise the on-site service fee. Afterwards, confronting Elkay?s service manager with my detailed complaints, I got a smug we-are-never-wrong attitude and a ?conciliatory" offer to free-install more parts at an even higher rate of mark-up. Now that?s chutzpah. Bump Up the Prices Much? Note below the difference between the prices Elkay quoted me for the following Viking parts vs. the price of the exact same part, which demonstrably can be bought from an authorized retail Viking parts dealer. Note Elkay?s parts prices do NOT include installation costs: Self-cleaning controller assembly: Actual retail price = $145.75 Elkay?s price = $245 Elkay?s markup = 68% Oven latch for self cleaning: Actual retail price = $79.50 Elkay?s price = $155 Elkay?s markup = 95% Burner controller: Actual retail price: $79.95 Elkay?s price = $255 Elkay?s markup = 219% [Actual prices can be confirmed with a 10-minute Internet search and/or a phone call to various Viking parts suppliers.] On Elkay?s first trip to my home to fix the oven I agreed the quoted price ($850 total + tax) for the replacement of the first two parts. Two Elkay repair men ( why two?) simultaneously arrived on site for that service visit. When they left after 40 minutes of work the receipt they gave me did NOT itemize the costs ? for that I had to phone Elkay?s service manager. The labor charge alone was $450[!] for what they claimed was 90 minutes work for two men. Again, why two men? And 90 minutes? No way?I was working at home that day, the visit was 50 minutes, tops. Elkay?s Response: ?I Been in Business 30 Years?? Reached by phone, Elkay?s service manager defended the price mark-ups, insisting that they are needed to cover 1) delivery of the parts and 2) Elkay?s one-year guarantee of the parts. This is easily refutable: 1) the Elkay-inventoried parts would be ?delivered? to the job site by the service man who was showing up anyway, and 2) the online Viking parts retailers already guarantee the parts for one year. Thus no credible explanation was given for the exorbitant mark-ups. Elkay?s service manager, in a fatuous attempt at street-wise conciliation, then said, ? Let?s cut to the chase: I?ll waive the installation cost for a third part you need [i.e., the $79.95 burner controller] and charge you only $225 [!] for the controller.? At that point I?d done some homework and knew the controller's actual price ($79.95) and I almost dropped the phone laughing at his third-rate con job attempt. When confronted with the ?time? of the visit, Elkay?s service manager insisted that the visit was indeed 90 minutes, saying, ? because I?m reading the log and the log say 90 minutes.? Great circular logic. ? And,? he added, ? the service time is measured from the time they leave their truck to the time they get back to it.? I wondered out loud to him whether the service men had visited a local diner before going back to their truck ? the "logged" time certainly would have permitted it. Summary ? Wanna Toss Money Away? Based on their visit to my home, Elkay Service is a vendor to be avoided. They were clearly price gouging this Manhattan homeowner. From my experience their business model is all about wildly jacking up the parts prices and ballooning the service visit time. [During this episode there also was a dispute between myself and Elkay as to whether Elkay?s service people had damaged part of my Viking range during their visit in an effort to sell me more price-inflated parts. Given the lack of proof ? I wasn?t watching their every move ? I elected to drop that issue. I?ll leave it to the reader to assess whether Elkay might attempt such a maneuver.]

The problem was a broken grill on a Bluestar range. Initial estimate was erroneous. When I personally checked the price of the parts there was a discrepancy of about $200. They acknowledged a "mispricing" and lowered estimate. Work quality was good. They are one of few appliance repair companies endorsed highly by the manufacturer, so I felt compelled to use them. I would use them again only to repair this brand of stove as many other repair facilities don't have expertise in it.

My new Viking range appeared to have a problem turning and staying on. Apparently, Elkay is the company that PC Richard uses to service appliances. The woman from Elkay was very accommodating and knowledgeable, and arranged for the service people to come the very next day after my call. She had warned me that there had been a number of issues with reverse polarity regarding the electrical outlet in many homes, and warned me that this wasn't covered under the warranty. If this was, indeed, the problem, it would cost me $150. I elected to take the chance and asked that the service men come take a look. It was an issue with the polarity. The service men (Arty and James) were exceptionally courteous and helpful and even waited while the resident electrician in my building fixed the polarity issue. They instructed me a bit on how to use the range, what to do before first use, etc., etc. They were there a total of about 30 minutes and I was happy to pay the $150.
