Description of Work: Needed packing & moving service since packing with a 17 month old son in the house is impossible. Went with Dumbo because they were one of the cheapest quotes I found, despite some bad reviews here on Angie's List. I also used Yelp reviews and overall, people seemed pretty satisfied. | |Well, I was wrong. How horrible were they? Let me count the ways... | |They arrived late because of "traffic". This is NYC, of course there is morning rush hour traffic. Leave earlier, geniuses. | |They sent TWO MEN to pack & move a nice sized 1 bedroom apartment with the belonging of 3 people. Both the building I moved from & to had strict 9am-5pm windows for moves. They "finished" moving me into new apartment just before 5pm. | |By "finished" I mean they completed approximately 80% of the job that day. You see, THEY RAN OF BOXES & TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF LUCK. | |The next day, they hung up on my wife 3 times when she called to get them to finish the job. When I called, I finally got them to "finish" the job. I guess they have no respect for women. | |They "finished" the job by sending 1 guy who also did not have enough boxes. Rather than hanging clothing in wardrobe boxes, they were stuffed into smaller boxes. | |The expert packers the first day ran out of boxes because there was no rhyme or reason to the way in which they packed things. Some boxes were partially empty. | |SWEATERS WERE USED TO PROTECT BREAKABLE ITEMS rather than bubble wrap. | |NOT ONE BOX WAS LABELED AS TO WHAT ROOM ITS CONTENTS BELONGED | |Complete & utter disregard/lack of respect for us as customers and our possessions. | |I IMPLORE YOU TO USE ANOTHER COMPANY

Description of Work: Dumbo provided service for me several weeks before. They picked up an old and delicate secretary on Long Island and delivered it to me in Brooklyn. They were excellent and lovely, so when it came time to move 70 cartons of books from my sister-in-law's basement to my new apartment (Brookyn to Brooklyn) I called them again. Once again, they were delightful and good at what they do. They got out of the basement in time to allow a babysitter to go pick up kids at school, and they got to my place and finished before the 5:00 PM deadline. Super! Oh, and the fellas like soda and cookies.

 + -1 moreThey arrived on time and got right to work. There was a problem with our sofa not fitting out the door, which they patiently worked on until we came to a solution. Throughout that ordeal, they stayed cheerful and nice even though everyone was definitely getting frustrated. The three guys worked straight through the day without a break for lunch and got us completely into our new house in about 8 hours. I would definitely use them again if I ever move again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to a friend.

 + -1 moreFantastic moving service! The company was extremely professional, honest, straightforward, flexible, helpful, and well priced! Our initial contact was with Misha, our sales rep. He was extremely helpful, courteous and flexible - he allowed us to reserve our move date several weeks in advance and worked with us to adjust our quote based on our fluid and changing inventory. What we loved about DUMBO moving is that their pricing is very straightforward - they give you a fixed price based on the inventory being moved, and not based on time. You give them the inventory (e.g. # of boxes, type of furniture, etc.), they review the inventory with you, and base the pricing on additions / subtractions - a very open, straightforward process with no surprises. DUMBO also provided us with the certificate of insurance required by our building without any hesitation or hassle. On the day of the move, our foreman (Constantine) was on time with the crew and worked very quickly and diligently to pack our items and load the truck. They worked very hard to move our items into our new home and were very flexible and helpful with setting up our furniture and organize our belongings per our direction. The crew was very efficient, courteous, friendly, and careful with our items and ensuring that there was no damage to our new home. We can't say enough about how great our moving experience was - it was extremely transparent, honest, well executed, and a great value!. We would definitely recommend DUMBO moving and will definitely use them again for our future moving needs.

The price was based on specific pieces of furniture, and when I changed the list a couple of times, they were prompt with a new estimate. The movers themselves were thorough, and wrapped and packed my belongings up well. My only complaint was that there was a strong solicitation for tips, but they did a great job for me.
Description of Work: I was having the floors in my apartment refinished, so Dumbo moving moved my furniture out, stored it for a week, then moved it back in.

 + -1 moreI had used Dumbo two years ago when we moved between apartments. At the time, I chose them due to their flat rate delivery plan. They were excellent during that move and didn't charge me extra for a few things that didn't come up during the quote - like some steps to get into the building, and the apartment being so far from the road. This time, I wanted to try to use a more local company, but after several bad conversations and a very high quote ($800) I went back to Dumbo, thankfully. Their quote was excellent, and they always responded promptly to any questions or inventory changes I needed to make. The movers arrived 20 minutes early. My only complaint is that they didn't call before arrival as they were supposed to - we weren't quite finished getting everything together for them, but it worked out in the end. It only took them about 45 minutes to get everything into the truck, and they actually beat us to the house. Unloading went just as fast, and they put everything exactly where we asked them to. The guys never complained and worked diligently to get the job done. After they left, the leader of the group called me to let me know there was a problem with my debit card - I think something was funky because I had just submitted my change of address with my bank. I gave him another card to use and it worked out fine. There was no animosity in the phone call, just simply to inform me that it didn't work and they needed another form. Dumbo is a great company to work with, and while hopefully we won't have to move again for a very long time, if we do, I won't even bother checking other companies first.

 + -1 moreThe service was the most unprofessional. The crew arrived 31/2 hours after the scheduled time, they arrived at the pick up location with a small truck full of other person s belongings. The man inside tried to make room by literally throwing stuff to the back. I asked the foreman what their plan was and he said that the company was sending another truck. At that point I was suspicious and thought about canceling my move with Dumbo Moving, but unfortunately Sunday was the only day possible for me and I had already wasted 4 hours waiting for the company. They then proceeded to take down my belongings. When we arrived at the destination and they opened the truck I was appalled: The truck was filled the way you would fill a garbage can. When all my belongings were out it was clear that they had not been ready to do my moving. Their motto says "Sit back, relax and enjoy your move" but this was exactly the opposite of my experience. It was frustrating and enervating.
Description of Work: They had to move my one bedroom apartment within 5 miles. They looked professional in their website, I completed an estimate online, the guys called in advance to give me a time window from 1 to 3pm when they would send the crew. It was a really small move since I did not have a lot of furniture, only a bed, books, some bookshelves and a couple of antique pieces of furniture. Everything had been neatly packed except for the furniture pieces which, the contract said, they said they would cover with blankets.
