Description of Work: I cannot speak more highly of Matt. He is truly deserving of all of his uniformly positive Angie's List reviews. He is a professional and a gentleman, responsive, well-organized, polite and respectful. Our decision not to proceed is unrelated to our interactions with Matt, and we refer friends to Matt, and call him when we are contemplating remodeling in the future.

Matt and his team did a wonderful job, I couldn?t be happier with my bathroom. I called Matt after seeing positive reviews on Angie?s List, and asked him to give me an estimate to completely remodel my bathroom (new tiles, sink, replace the tub with a shower, new mirror etc). To play it safe I contacted several contractors for their assessment and estimates. Some never called back, and some provided pricey estimates. Matt?s estimate was very reasonable for New York city, and the final price was very close to the original estimate. Before starting the job, Matt asked me questions make sure that we were on the same page. Matt recommended a few stores to get my tiles and fixtures, which were all good suggestions and I ended up getting my tiles from a store he recommended. Every step of the way, Matt gave me good advice, and was even ready to raise the ceiling of my bathroom halfway through completion when I asked him if he could do it. It was great to be able to count on someone who was very responsive. I had a no worries and a sense of security about how the job was going to be performed. Matt and his team were very fast, but at the same time they paid attention to every detail and my bathroom was completed in less than two weeks. Along the way, I ordered the wrong size for the shower doors, and even though the bathroom was finished Matt came back two months later as soon as the doors were delivered to install them. I was impressed with his professionalism. It was a pleasure to work with Matt, I would recommend Matt and his team to anyone looking for a detailed job and great service.

They were very responsive with my initial request. Something I have not experienced with other inquiries.Unfortunately they were unavailable to take a bid. Given their references, I would consider them for another project if the opportunity presented itself.

I really can't say enough about C & M. They are honest, terrific craftsmen with reasonable rates, and I will not hesitate to use them again and recommend them to my friends. They did a gut renovation of my bathroom in Park Slope. From the moment he came in to give me his estimate, Matt showed himself to be an honest and caring guy. He said he was most concerned that I be happy with the results, and at first I thought, "Of course he HAS to say that--" but it was true! He thought of additional and affordable things for my bathroom design I hadn't considered, and gently steered me away from unwise (and potentially expensive) mistakes. Jose and Vincente, his crew, are fantastic, very detail oriented and professional, and like another reviewer, I trusted my keys with them. In addition, they gave me many considerations, for example daily replacing the toilet in my bathroom up until the very end so that I could still stay in my place during construction. This was above and beyond and for that I am totally grateful. Frequently Matt would suggest a little improvement on our original plan, like moving the plumbing to make the shower more comfortable, or installing an extra recessed light. Jose even built me a countertop over my Ikea cabinets, making the place look totally custom. These were totally affordable improvements that made a big difference-- Matt didn't nickel and dime at all. When I had that inevitable weird freak out of "what grout color is this?" (which I never thought I'd be that person, but I totally was) Matt was totally cool and drove all the way to my place to make sure that I was perfectly happy with his purchases before the guys did anything permanent. Finally, a week after everything was done, my drain was a little slow, and I called Matt who rushed over and made sure it was fixed immediately. These guys really do take pride in what they do. The work they did was top-notch. They were not afraid to wait to ask me about a decision they were unsure of (heights of tiling, things like that), and the tile work was wonderful. I will post pictures as soon as I can. The best way to illustrate the quality of my experience: my super is notoriously disapproving of the contractors in NYC (we have an old and tough building to work in, and he is protective of both his building and of his residents). By the end of the process, my super came in to "inspect," pronounced my bathroom "gorgeous," called Matt and his crew "some stand-up guys" and asked for their contact info to recommend them to my neighbors. Be warned-- like every truly good contractor in the city, Matt is BUSY. But he will not start your job and then abandon it for other jobs, like some! He may start a few weeks later than you originally plan (sometimes because he is making sure his previous job is perfect) but it is worth the wait, truly.
Description of Work: I had C & M do a gut renovation of my bathroom, including removal of my tub, with new plumbing, tiling, new fixtures and paint.

He had absolutely stellar recommendations on Angie's List. I do not think I saw one negative comment. The reviews were great. The recommendations were topnotch. He was on time and professional and seemed to be honest. He was just very straightforward and I appreciated that. He is going to be doing a little bit more than the kitchen. He is going to be redoing another wall, taking out a wall and adding little things here and there in the office.

Choosing Matt from C&M was the best choice we ever made everything went so smoothly from beginning to finish. We had to wait a few weeks for the job to start which we were told up front and it was well worth the wait. Once we agreed to have Matt do the job he wanted no money up front to wait until he started. Matt's crew completely gutted bathroom the bathroom which is on the second floor, moved door over in order to open into room, redid plumbing & electrical. Installed everything tub, toilet etc.The job ran over by a couple of days because Matt saw a couple of things he wanted to fix that he had not anticipated, the ceiling was not insulated, now it is. The pipe where the toilet hooks up to was slightly pitched and although was no problem for 30 years Matt said he would feel better making sure it was done correctly so now it is. True to his word that the price we were given was the price and these were taken care of with no mention of additional costs to us. Matt's crew was fantastic. The day they started it was close to a 100 degrees and they sealed themselves in the bathroom with plastic sheeting and door closed to contain the dust, it amazed both my wife & I that you would never know this work was being done unless looked into the room that's how neat they were. Nightly they left the room as clean as possible so we would be able to use the toilet being it is our only bathroom. Originally we were told we'd be without a toilet for one night ended up being three because of redoing the toilet plumbing which was well worth the inconvenience. Felt very comfortable as to leaving the house with the crew there.Matt was on site daily to supervise & answer any concerns we might have and was never more than a phone call away. After the job was completed there were a couple of minor issues and I called Matt Monday afternoon and by Monday evening it was taken care of.A couple of days later Matt followed up with a phone call to see how everything was and if we purchased a ceiling fixture yet. Which we haven't until this day. Matt told us that when we do finally get the fixture to call him and he we see that it is installed. I'm not one to recommend people but I would recommend C&M without hesitation and will definitely be using them in the near future. It is very easy to see why they have so many positive reviews
Description of Work: complete bathroom renovation Matt charges were $11,200 total cost was approx $15,500. We purchased tub, toilet, vanity floor & wall tiles.

Matt and his team, Jose and Vincente, were wonderful from start to finish. They completely demolished our old pink bathroom and carted away all the rubble. They redid plumbing and electricity, and were more than willing to do anything and everything they were asked. They were meticulous and really took pride in the work they did. We couldn't be happier with the finished product, and were delighted that we chose C&M, and will use them again.
Description of Work: We had our bathroom completely demolished and redone and our laundry room updated.
C&M worked neatly, diligently and continuously until the job was finished to our satisfaction. We chose C&M because of the thoroughness of their estimate and their competitive pricing. In fact, we took the contents of Matt's estimate and used it when receiving bids from other contractors, without the price, of course. We shopped around for cabinets, wall and floor tile, and counter tops and used Matt's recommendations for two of three suppliers. The entire job took about four weeks, and that was with a three day interruption while the living room floor was laid. A couple of week ago the faucet began to have a flow problem. Matt sent a man over to install the replacement at no charge. We give C&M the highest recommendation.
Description of Work: The entire 10x10 kitchen was gutted, new cabinets, sink, counter top, porcelain floor, tile back splash, lighting and appliances were installed. An air vent was moved to accommodate cabinets. The kitchen and living room ceilings were refinished and wood floor moldings were installed. The living room and kitchen were painted. Two bedroom and two bathroom doors were replaced and the linen closet bi-fold was replaced with a set of double doors. Three circuits were added to the electrical panel.
We are very very pleased with the bathroom renovation that was completed by C&M Home Improvement last week. We believe that Matt and his team delivered high quality work at a reasonable price. Specifically, we would like to note the following: * excellent team work: a dedicated team of skilled workers under daily supervision by Matt * skilled workers: very experienced with all facets of a comprehensive bathroom renovation * pleasant and trustworthy: Matt and his team are very friendly and we had no problem leaving the house during working hours * great attitude: hard working, they enjoy their work and never did we hear: "we can do this for you but we have to charge you extra" * attention to detail: the team took pride in their workmanship and carefully thought through how to get the best finish for us * good communication: daily dialogues about specifications, exact measurements, tiling patterns and preferred finishes * tidiness: the team made a great effort to seal off the bathroom to prevent dust getting into the bedroom and other rooms In short, we would not hesitate to request Matt for our next renovation project and to recommend him and his crew to anybody else.
Description of Work: Project entailed complete bathroom renovation plus extension of bathroom. Services included demolition of old bathroom, framing, new plumbing, new wiring for light fixtures and outlets, preparation (including waterproofing) of bathroom walls, ceiling and floor, tiling of all walls and floor (including special decorative tiles, chrome profiles and quartz pieces), installation of shower body, linear drain, soaking tub, vanity, all faucets, toilet, ceiling lights, fan, new radiator, bathroom accessories and installation of custom-made door.

Matt and his team were friendly, responsive, and thorough. I plan on using them for some additional work as well.
Description of Work: Gut renovation of a bathroom in a 1 BR apartment in a large 1920 co-op building. They removed old fixtures, walls broke down concrete floor, replaced wastline, plumbing, framed out the bathroom, installed a tub, installed new walls, tiled, painted, installed new fixtures, etc.
This was a very big job. To make the cellar into usable space (it had been only for storage previously), we needed to dig out over three feet of soil, which required underpinning the foundation walls. We agreed to a contract with Matt in October of 2011, and the job was basically completed by the end of March 2012. We originally hired an architect and a structural engineer in July to draft the plans, and obtain sign-off from DOB, which took almost three months. The contractor that did the underpinning and concrete work, D'aquino, was very good (he worked with Matt, but we contracted with him separately). This portion of the work took about 10 weeks (underpinning has to be done in 3 foot sections all around the perimeter of the house). The underpinning is also very delicate work, since each section of the house is not supported while the work is being performed. Even though this was work was not done specifically by Matt, he was involved with the project and basically served as the GC for this work. Any issues I had with the concrete work I went through Matt, and he coordinated his crew to work simultaneously with the underpinning. Much of the plumbing was done during this period, in particularly the french drainage system (this is a trench around the perimeter of the house, that catches any water and drains it to sump pump. Matt's main job started in mid-January. There were always at least two laborers there, and the work went quickly. Framing was done within two weeks, and the electrical was done soon afterwards. There were a number of issues that came up in the job, as usually happens. The architect's plan had a couple of omissions and errors, which Matt corrected without charge. Matt had a very good eye for making improvements (the installation of small rooms to hide the electric and gas services) that helped make the finished product much better than the plans would have produced. Matt really took it upon himself to make the project a success, even when it didn't result in any gain for him. We worked with a contractor previously who was a disaster: a typical scammer who took a third of the money, started one little part, then left you for weeks calling to get them to come back. Matt didn't take a dime until he had finished part of the work. He also works with the best sub-contractors I have ever seen. The electrician, Isaac, and the plumber, Pat (from Fountain of Trevi Plumbing) were both incredibly diligent, were fantastic in dealing with DOB, and came the same day whenever there was an issue. I would use both of them again in a heartbeat (I doubt I will need to use D'aquino again, but that is only because i probably won't be doing large scale concrete work, though I still would also use him). Matt said from the stat that he only wanted to do a good job. He did a very good job. A job that came in for the quoted price (even with some add-ons), in basically the time he said it would take to do. He is also a very nice guy who knows his trade and works only with people who know their trades. Big construction jobs are never easy, they take a long time to get permitting done, and always require more work than you think (in our case a structural engineer, asbestos removal, pre-construction surveys, etc.). Through all this, Matt did what he said he would, delivered a great product, and didn't jack up the price when little items arose. I would use him again without question, and I recommend him without reservation.
Description of Work: Underpinning foundation walls to lower floor of basement; excavation of three feet of soil; new concrete base; complete renovation of cellar, including sheet rock walls, tile flooring, lighting, and closets; new electrical for finished basement; installation of half-bath; new boiler installation; installation of french drainage system to prevent flooding; new staircase installation; replaced dilapidated drainage and gas lines; painting and wood trim.

From start to finish everything exceeded my expectations. Matt's crew arrived promptly each day. They quickly and efficiently set about laying painters cloth to protect the floors and stairwell. They worked steadily and continuously throughout the day. Many days they worked beyond the time they were scheduled to end. If they were trying to finish a particular thing they continued on until it was done. I never felt that were rushing through this project though. Matt and his team were always friendly, polite, professional and at times funny. It was a pleasure to have them in our home. If we asked questions or determined we needed to change a particular thing they were always open and pleasant about doing so. As Matt would say "we aim to please". I can't stop marveling at the beauty and craftsmanship of the work - another workman who has since viewed the job said he doesn't see this quality anymore. Who could ask for anything more!!! I have the highest regard for C&M and the crew, they are a renovaters dream and I look forward to working with them again on other projects in our home.
Description of Work: C&M completed renovated our main floor bathroom by first demolishing the old bath and rebuilding from the ground up. They installed new floor, wall, and shower tile, all new fixtures and of course new plumbing, pipes, hardware etc. Just listing what they did can't begin to describe the work, attention to detail and time involved.

Sorry he could not do this work based on his strong recommendations.
Description of Work: Responded quickly to my request for bid but I was told that he does not do exterior brownstone repair along with window replacement. Very kindly reached out to me and offered a possible recommendation.
I can't say enough good things about working with Matt at C & M Home Improvement. He is truly the best! We purchased our condo in late September 2011 a week after we closed and I found Matt on Angies List and decided to give him a call. I called him with the intention of doing a simple remodeling of our kitchen. I was going to keep all the appliances in their original place and just have new cabinets, countertops, back splash, sink and flooring installed. I called Matt on his cell ( the best place to reach him) and I said he could meet me the next day. We had a 10: 30 appointment and he was there right on time, which was the first good sign. When we met for our appointment Matt couldn't have been more pleasant. He is a real gentleman and incredibly knowledgeable. I should mention that I works as a property manager and have dealt with all sorts of people in the construction business. I have also remodeled a few kitchens so I knew a few things. However, when I met with Matt I was five months pregnant and my goal was to get into our place at least a month before the baby was due. I realized I didn't have the energy to subcontract all the work myself and that is why I hired Matt. Anyway back to our meeting. When I met with Matt I immediately had a very good feeling about him. Again he was knowledgeable but not a " know it all" which can be a problem when some construction companies are dealing with women. He sent me an estimate that evening and I decided to hire hime. Lets just say I went with my gut and so glad I did. Following my decision to hire Matt we met again and I realized that this guy was really good and I decided to have him give me quotes on refinishing our hardwood floors, installation of all our closet and interior doors as well as installing baseboard and crown moulding and painting the entire apartment. Well I decided to " bite the bullet" and go for it and have Matt do it all and I couldn't be happier and we moved in exactly one month and two days before the baby arrived. Our son decided to come two weeks early. I spoke with Matt almost every day and he always immediately returned my calls. Matt recommended a cabinet and counter top companies that were both very easy to work with. The man who came out to measure for our cabinets actually found a dummy wall and we ended up extending our kitchen and entire foot, which in New York is soooo much extra space. The counter tops were installed within a week, which I have never had done so fast. The three men who did all the work in our apartment were incredibly polite and really skilled carpenters. Matt basically renovated everyting in our apartment with the exception of our windows and bathrooms, and wouldn't you know it the only problems we have had since we moved in are our bathrooms and windows. I have no complaints about the work Matt did. He is really a wonderful man who takes incredible pride in the work that his company provides. It has always been my dream to one day buy a brownstone and renovate it , however, I have been hesitant because I never met a contractor that I felt 100% comfortable with. Well let me say when I do find that home in years to come I will be calling Matt because he is the only one I would trust and feel able to sleep at night about it all. Oh... I should say in the two months of working with Matt I never became stressed about any of the work he was doing. However, I hired movers to pack for me and move us from Oz moving company and it was the most stressful day and the rudest people who pack up our stuff and I will never hire them again. So call Matt today if you need a renovation you won't regret it!
Description of Work: We had our kitchen fully remodeled, all the hardwood flooring refinished, installation of baseboard and crown molding through out our entire apartment, every interior door replaced and the entire apartment fully painted.

It took about three weeks to complete the project. Along the way, the guys fixed the barely perceptible leak from the apartment above us. The question everyone is asking us,: what did you do if you needed to use bathroom. The answer: the toilet was available almost all the time, except 1 day, when the new floors were installed. We managed.
Description of Work: Complete renovation and expansion of the bathroom. The bathroom was completely gutted; new wiring, walls, floor, ceiling, tiles and ceramics installed. The sink was moved to a new location, so some involved plumbing was also a part of the project. The contractor was very accommodating to our design suggestions, and very, very patient with our difficult building management company. The workers were skillful and conscientious.

I was initially intimated by the thought of working with a contractor to do renovations. Matt and his crew made the actual experience so pleasant and easy. I felt they had become my friends over the past two months. I look forward to welcoming Matt back to our apartment to complete a couple of small things and to catch up.
Description of Work: I was very pleased with C&M's services for the following reasons: 1. Matt was very accommodating to our requests. Whatever we asked him to do, he got it done right away; 2, making sure the customers were happy seemed to be Matt's priority; 3, Matt was pretty instrumental in the areas where we could use some help (for example, where the lights should be positioned so that the medicine cabinet would look better); 4, he wanted to do things the right way, even though that could mean he had to do extra work without necessarily getting paid more; 5, to the extent he could, he was willing to go out of his way to help (he helped us fix some old furniture); 6, he was very responsible and responsive. He was willing to communicate with customers via email or phone on his off days. He followed up on open issues closely; and 7, he even called one week after the project was completed just to see whether we discovered anything that could be improved.

The top apartment and roof had the heaviest damage, the roof and the top floor was replaced. Even though there were delays by the insurance company, Matt and his guys were able to patch up a temporary roof before things can settle down. The roof was temporary patched up with only tarps by a different mitigation company after the fire, tarps do not last long and leaks sprung up as soon as the next day. Matt's guys were able to save the house with a temporary roof, which suffered the blizzard the night of Christmas 2010. After things settled, Matt was able to get started on the house and make the repairs quickly. A new roof was secured with a industrial size drain - to prevent future leaks and issues. The fire wall suffered damage but remained intact, a special coating of paint was put on to prevent the smoke smell from lingering. A new roof hatch was installed with a spring for easy access. The apartments came out great, even with a brand new bathroom on the first level. All the apartments had brand new beautiful hardwood floods with ceramic tiles for the kitchen and bathroom. The windows were repair and replaced with double-pane glasses, including the balcony glass door. Thicker drywall and insulation was installed throughout the house. The noise level has noticeably gone down, although I'm waiting for the true test when the hot days of summer come around to test how the new insulation holds up. My top apartment use to be 15 degrees warmer than the other floors. The bathroom were outfitted with delta faucets and american standard toilets. The new full bathroom on the first level was put in with a nice stand-in shower. The kitchen was outfitted with beautiful quality cabinets and a gorgeous Cesar stone counter-top. Matt and his team was able to get the house back together in relatively good time. He took the time to explain the process and show his professionalism through the work and services provided. This was the first time I had to hire a contractor for this large of a work, and if you know NYC, it's not always easy to find good, honest contractors at a reasonable price. Matt was honest and straight forth, he was always available to answer any questions and gave valuable feedback based on his years of experience in construction.
Description of Work: Repairs to the house for damages caused by a large fire. Heavy construction consisting of: gutting of house and removing damaged areas; brand new roof; repair of top floor apartment; installation of new kitchens / bathrooms on all floors; repair windows; installation of flooring on all floors; drywall replacement on all floors; new staircase for basement;

Overall, I was very happy with how smooth the process went and how beautiful the end result was.
Description of Work: I recently had a complete bathroom renovation and I could not have been happier with the outcome. Matt and his team were professional at all times. His team was punctual, courteous and respectful to me and my home. Matt was on sight daily. He went over what was going to be done each day. He addressed any concerns that I had, which were few. He and his team made very good recommendations with tile placement and tile choices that I had not thought of. An issue came up where a stone niche was made smaller then the measured hole and was quickly remedied by him and his team.. Matt and his team takes great pride in their work and and is very dedicated to making a clients vision come true and making a client happy. I would recommend C&M Home Improvement without hesitation.
We are extremely happy with the services performed by C & M Home Improvement. Matt Zacchero and his team worked diligently to fulfill my vision for the remodel of my two bathrooms. They coordinated the project so that we would always have one functioning bathroom. They discussed every aspect of the remodel and made sure I was completely satisfied with the finished product. When I decided to lower the mirror in one bathroom, I didn 't consider the effect the move would have on the sconces flanking the mirror. When I realized the sconces were now too high, without any hesitation, they immediately repositioned the electrical housing for the sconces. I was so satisfied with the work done by C & M that I dediced to add on a few projects (enlarging a closet door in the foyer, replacing crown and base molding in a bedroom horribly done by another contractor, installation of a ceiling fan). The workers arrived on time daily and cleaned up their work area each evening..They made sure all the building common areas were clean and all the garbage was removed. We had no complaints from anyone in the co-op or building management. Matt was wonderful. He arranged for me to visit other projects he completed before making the decision to hire his company. He was always available to make design suggestions or answer questions. He visited the site daily and had the workers correct anything that didn't meet with his satisfaction. After the project was completed he called to make sure we were completely satisfied. I plan to use C & M for all future home improvements.
Description of Work: C&M did a complete gut and renovation of two batrooms in my co-op which included removal of walls, installation of sheet rock, tiles.,fixtures, lighting, crown molding, doors and painting of untiled surfaces. In addition they installed crown and base molding in a bedroom, installed a ceiling fan with a light fixture and enlarged and reframedfthe foyer closet and installed new doors.
Matt & his staff worked very diligently and professionally. They are devoted to their work and customers. Each morning they were on time and worked very precisely to your needs and expectations. Each evening they'd leave the work site spotless & organized. Matt was available to answer any concerns & questions at any moment. He is very patience and always gave the right advice. I have never met a company who are as honest and hard working as Matt & his staff. Home renovation can be a bit challenging at times but Matt was our rock. He was always there and made the process smooth sailing. C & M has everything at their disposal. They work with multiple vendors who have fair prices. Matt can make your dream home come alive with his precise creativity and design skills. My husband and I are very happy and pleased. We would highly recommend Matt and his staff. Thank you C&M Home Improvement!!!!

Overall, Matt never scheduled an appointment with me. He never called me back to apologize for not being able to get back to me. His first impression left me feeling that I would never do business with someone who does not have the common courtesy to keep his word.
Description of Work: I called Matt on January 17th 2012 to get an estimate for a basement remodel. Matt explained that he was busy which is understandable. Matt informed me that he would call me by the end of the week (by 1/22/12), or if he could not get to me then, he would certainly call me to schedule an appointment at the beginning of the following week. That would have been Monday 1/23 or Tuesday 1/24. It is now Wednesday Jan 25th and I have not received a return call as of yet. This is simply unacceptable, and why Matt deserves this rating. If you are going to tell a potential customer something, stand by your word!

Response from CNM Construction
Hi, I am sorry for the miscommunication. However, I never received a contact number in which I could reach you. I do have your address, which you supplied to me during our conversation. Therefore, the only way for me to reach you was in person. Which I did unsuccessfully on three different occasions. On two different occasions I left you business cards and a note. The last time, which was Friday Feb. 3rd, 2012. On that day I spoke to a young lady at your residence. She said that you were unavailable. If you wish I can assist you with any ideas or suggestions, etc. regarding your project...whether your choose us to work with you or not. I will be more than happy to help at no cost to you, as best as I can. Please give me a call at your earliest convenience. Again, I do not have a phone number for me call you. All the best Matt 718-541-3700
Overall I am happyier with the end result that I could have imagined.
Description of Work: We cant say enough good things about the work Matt and his guys did. We did a lot of work and I feel that they did a better job than I could have imagined. We gut renovated a bathroom, moved an existing staircase and created a new staircase, re painted the entire house, put up crown and foot molding, removed wallpaper and completely re-wired the house for electricity. The Electrical work is fantastic, although it took longer than anticipated but the rest of the work took about 9 weeks which we are very pleased with. The workers were friendly and took great care of our home always cleaning and making things safe for us at night. I am so happy with the end result. Matt was very involved, he came just about every day and was always there to answer the phone and questions. We stayed within the original estimate for the work and when there were things beyond his scope he gave us great reccomendations for other people. I would absolutely use them again
