Snow removal is snow removal, right? How hard can it be? Well....you said the same thing about painting during the summer and you saw how hard that turned out, right? I am a property manager and I can tell you that so many things can go wrong here. 1. First, a fly-by-night company can promise and double-promise they will show up on time but they in the morning, nobody shows up. They know you can't use anyone else because everyone else is booked. They show up late and not even an apology. 2. Then, they do a lousy job. Some spots still have snow/ice. It'll melt they say. It doesn't look like a "clean" snow job to you. They use their hands to spread the salt unevenly, instead of a sprayer. If you're a business, you're just asking for someone to sue you. Sometimes, the guys won't even use enough salt so that it will melt the snowfall that's supposed to come later in a few hours. They actually do this. They are tired of spreading the salt and they just say screw it. Also, they save on the $15-20 on the salt. I can tell you countless stories of people not leaving much salt at all and claiming they did! Some will send me pictures, proving they salted. Hmmm...that picture seems awfully familiar. I'll flip up a few month's worth of messages and it's the same picture! I kid you not. This actually happens. I can't believe the scams that people try to pull! 3. I'm a property manager so I know a little technical stuff. Don't let them use rock salt on your concrete sidewalk and defininitely don't let them try to spike ice with a pick or something. They'll definitely end up picking the concrete and leading it to crumbling. Make sure they use calcium chloride or magnesium chloride on the concrete. Rock salt is ok on asphault. Trust me. Over years, if you treat the concrete poorly, it won't last long and you'll have to shell out tens of thousands. 4. They don't have any insurance and their truck does damage. Uh oh. ALWAYS ask for the insurance certificate and make yourself an additionally insured. It takes 2 seconds. This is a huge mistake if you don't. If something goes wrong, you're out of luck. When I look for contractors and venders, I am looking for the best and it's really....really hard. So many are so bad and lazy. I kid you not, it's gotta' be like 90%. This company is in the top 10%. You don't have to worry that Paul will do his job. It's a relief. It makes my life so much easier so I can concentrate on the stuff that really needs my attention.

Paul and his crew does the annual snow removal for the entrance to our office building. I can honestly say I was very lucky to find him. It's hard to find a contractor with integrity. Truly. You'd think that snow removal companies are the same. They aren't. It's extremely important to find one that is reliable, especially if you rely on them for a business. Of course, they have to be there in the morning before the doors open but they have to be there even earlier so that the ice melt that they lay down will have enough time to melt the bottom layer of ice. Otherwise, you'll end up with a lawsuit if someone slips. You can't imagine the extent of shady practices that occur with contractors. So, let me tell you that this company will do a thorough job and be there when you need them. Moreover, let me inform you that this company uses the correct ice melt. They are NOT all the same. Although a calcium blend would be better, you can use regular rock salt for asphalt (eg. driveway, road) but for sidewalks and walkways, the company that you use must spread calcium ice melt. If you don't, the salt will break the cement and you'll have to replace that cement walkway years early.
