Description of Work: We had previously used A Good Plumber with no problems, when Warren did the work. This time, we got Tommy. He spent more time talking about other things (his band, his martial arts, the self-defense classes he taught) and trying to be 'buddies' than doing work, but the tub he was supposed to unclog was still clogged the next morning when I took a shower. I didn't even get ONE clear shower. He was also, more importantly, asked to replace our upstairs toilet. He came out of the bathroom looking very serious, saying he had good news and bad news. The good news was that he could replace the toilet. The bad news was that he swore up and down that only ONE toilet brand - which just happened to be extremely expensive - would fit. Everything else was too deep for our small bathroom. He also told us that the model of toilet we wanted was no longer produced. We were dubious; we had specifically requested the identical Glacier Bay toilet we had in our even smaller basement bathroom. But okay. He installed the toilet. The next day, after the first defecation, it clogged. We couldn't unplug it. Tommy came with an auger and accused us of flushing baby wipes. We don't even buy them - no babies, and I don't like the feel of them. We'd flushed only urine, feces, and cheap 2-ply toilet paper. So we started testing the toilet, flushing a single piece of toilet paper, and videotaping the results. Repeatedly, the useless toilet refused to flush a single square of toilet paper, taking 5-6 flushes to get it all down. We demanded it be taken out and I stopped payment on the $1800 check. This got us into lots of back and forth with Bill - Tommy's dad - who assured us Tommy was highly rated (Who cares if he's pleasant? The toilet does NOT work!) and that the toilet was terrific (No, it wasn't. It was non-functional.) We called another plumber, and 2 licensed plumbers came. They assured us that the tub drain had almost certainly NOT been cleared, or if anyone had tried, it was done poorly. Our contractor had said the same thing. Also, they put in the model of toilet we wanted in the first place. Yes, it was available - at the first Home Depot our new plumbers visited. We were not frightened by lawyer threats - we have our own, thanks - and wrote back and forth to Bill. Then suddenly, when we told him the price our new plumber was charging (half), he suddenly discovered that - Oops - the server accidentally did not update, and we accidentally charged you twice for this! Yeah, right - I run an IT unit for a college. This is the lamest excuse I have ever heard. Maybe it works with people who know nothing about technology, but I do. Plus I found it highly suspicious that this huge error was found after I threatened to go to court. Bill finally agreed to $914 for the one thing Tommy did acceptably, which was replace a sink pipe. Expensive for a sink pipe, but we want to move, and don't feel like waiting for the NY court system - though we're quite confident that with the testimony of 2 licensed plumbers and a general contractor, plus the video evidence we have, we'd have won. Oh, and while Tommy was replacing the sink pipe, he was trying to sell us a new faucet, and swearing the old one no longer was produced, and we'd need to cut a whole new sink area in to accommodate the ugly huge thing he tried to sell us for another $2000+. By that time, we were super-suspicious, said no, and our other plumber replaced the problem faucet too - which was still available, despite Tommy's protestations to the contrary, at the third Home Depot our new plumbers visited. This was the WORST experience I have ever had with any tradesman, contractor, mechanic, or anyone who has ever done work for me, bar none.
