This job took longer to do than I estimated because of a lot of doors to cut around and I had to make a lot of calculations to make the three rolls cover the area as it wasn't quite enough. I charged an extra hundred for the extra time. I normally get five stars because my work is really excellent.

When I signed up to do jobs in Queens and Brooklyn I didn't know I could pick the areas that I could work in. I live in the Bronx so it's not practical to travel two hours for a one day job. I have since chosen the areas in Queens and Brooklyn that I work in so if you're receiving an email from Angie's List naming Shamrock Painting as a provider it means I do work in your area.

In our bedroom, the paint on the ceiling was cracked, peeling and discolored on one side of the room due to a water leak from the apartment above. In our bathroom, the paint was cracking on the walls and badly cracked and peeling on the ceiling (the bathroom had been renovated 3 years ago and the contractor never properly primed or painted). We got Kevin's name from 2 different neighbors in our pre-war coop. They were very pleased with his work and so was I. He came by within 24 hours of our call to get a look at the work to be done and discussed the various options available. He promised a written estimate based on our conversation and we received it within 48 hours. We found the price to be fair. He gave us a list of materials to purchase (plaster, paint) and he started work within a day of our notifying him that we had the materials. Kevin did all the work himself. In the bedroom, cleaned the ceiling of chipped paint, plastered it over and sanded it down. Painted the entire ceiling and you cannot tell there was ever any damage. Looks great. In the bathroom, he really cleaned everything up beautifully. Cleaned up all chipped paint, plastered, sanded, and applied multiple coats of primer and paint. He even smoothed out rough edges in the door and repainted. He took a lot a care and it shows. Fast, no nonsense, meticulous approach to his work. The bathroom never looked better. I highly recommend Kevin and look forward to hiring him again for more work in our apartment.

I contracted with Kevin (Shamrock Painting) to paint almost my entire condo (minus a couple of rooms). I would describe the quality of his work as very high; he did a careful and thorough job. His overall estimate of how long it would take him to complete the work was spot-on, and he arrived punctually each day. When I made a specific request that he remove the AC/heating ventilation covers for painting separately, he complied and did a beautiful job. Throughout the project, he was very conscientious about maintaining an organized work space. I am very satisfied with the outcome, and am happy to recommend Shamrock Painting to others.

This is the second time that I have hired Kevin to do work in my apartment. (The first time, he painted the entire apartment, and it was beautiful.) This time around, he provided me with a fair estimate for the wallpaper application. The job took an extra day because one roll of wallpaper arrived late. Kevin was accommodating and understanding. He is professional, courteous, and does really good work.

We had a great experience with Kevin from start to finish. I was immediately impressed when we met for the estimate, because he never tried to "up-sell" us the way that other painters had when they came in. For example, the ceilings were in good shape paint-wise, but some insisted that we would have to paint them if we were doing the walls, and basically wouldn't accept it when I said I didn't think we needed to. Kevin never did that - he was willing to let the job be as big or as small as we wanted. We eventually did expand the job from just the walls to include the baseboards, doors and window trim, but Kevin always asked us before doing anything, and was communicative throughout the process about how adding things would affect the estimate (so no surprises when the job was done, which we really appreciated.) We are so happy with the end result - we chose some bold colors, so any mistakes or uneven areas would really show up, and I am so impressed with how perfect everything looks. He also did all of this in the very short time-frame that we had between closing on our apartment and moving in, even bringing someone in to help so that he'd be finished in time. We would absolutely hire Kevin again for any kind of painting in our home.

Kevin and his men did an excellent job on the next stage of our apartment. This time they worked on the central spine of the place, so we timed the work to coincide with a trip out of town. So naturally we had to do careful planning and be totally on the same page with our painters. These guys worked within the parameters and executed everything to specifications. Looking forward to the next stage!

Powder Room: On the first day he came over to do the paper in the powder room, and within a few hours he called me to say that he had trouble getting the toilet paper holder off the wall, so instead of just asking for help (we live in a full service high end 24 hour doorman building) he thought he could cut the wall paper around the toilet paper holder. He ended up damaging the wall paper beyond use and told me that new wallpaper would have to be ordered to complete the job. Not only was this wallpaper $300 a roll, I had ordered it over 3 months ago, which means the odds of it being available were not high. It was a very specific teal color that matched perfectly with our bathroom, and not something that was easy to swap with another pattern. I then had to spend the next 4 hours on the phone with the wallpaper supplier trying to track down another roll of this wallpaper. After begging and pleading on my end, I was able to get the supplier to locate an additional roll and have it shipped out to me, but it would not arrive until Thursday, which was 2 days before our party and much later than we were comfortable with having work still being done in the apartment. It was my complete stupidity at this point that I gave Kevin the benefit of the doubt and believed him that this was just an honest mistake, and instead of firing him, had him start on the grasscloth. Grass Cloth for 1 Wall in Living Room: Kevin completed the grasscloth installation, and upon inspection, it was very obvious that he had done a poor job. The paper was jagged at the top of the ceiling, and there were several places were there were gaps in the wall paper panels. I called Kevin to discuss these concerns with him, and he said he would be able to come back the next day and fix these issues. The next day I get a call from Kevin saying he tried to fix the mistakes by stripping the wallpaper and reapplying it, but in doing so, the wallpaper had shrunk (obviously) and could not be reapplied. He even admitted that he should have primed the wall with grey primer (the color of our grasscloth) so that any small gaps would have been less visible- but he didn't do this because "the paint store is far from the apartment". So he tried to cut corners by painting the wall grey and then applying the grasscloth, but spilled paint on the grasscloth rendering it useless. At this point we fired Kevin on the spot. We are now left with a wall that is completely damaged and partially wallpapered (our apartment is brand new and the wall was in perfect condition prior to Kevin's arrival). As if all of the above wasn't enough, Kevin is completely unprofessional and messy. He spilled paint and wallpaper primer all over my kitchen sink, on the floor, and even managed to get paint on my chandelier. Our doormen also complained that he smelled. The ONLY thing that I will give Kevin credit for is that he paid back the 50% deposit we gave him and the cost of the wallpaper that he ruined. This doesn't make up for the fact that it is 2 days before my party and I have a wall that is completely damaged and a powder room that is marked up, and I now need to find someone who can come fix all of Kevin's mistakes in the next 48 hours. PLEASE SPARE YOURSELF THE WASTE OF TIME, EXPENSE, ADN HEADACHE and stay far far away from this incompetent person.
Description of Work: KEVIN IS A FRAUD-- AVOID AT ALL COSTS. HE CLAIMS HE CAN INSTALL WALLPAPER BUT HE CANNOT. We hired Kevin for a very simple wallpapering job- papering a small powder room and installing grasscloth on 1 wall in our living room. We told him the job must be completed by 7/27 at the absolute latest as we were hosting a large dinner party at our home on Saturday and everything needed to be complete.

In the case of the powder room, I have cut around objects often and there is usually no problem. In the case of this paper, it was extra thick and hard to cut, and cutting around the object happened to be my first cuts on this paper. Instead of the blade cutting through the paper normally, it pulled the paper and it tore. As there was just enough paper to do the bathroom, I didn't have a spare strip to work with. Because of the color of the paper, the tear couldn't easily be concealed. I told the client and offered to pay for the replacement paper. In the case of the grasscloth, I had done half the living room wall and checked with the client the night before that she was happy with it. She said she was. So I proceeded in the same vein with the rest of the wall. Once the wall was done, the clients made some criticisms of some slight imperfections, like it wasn't quite touching the wall in one spot and some seems in a few spots weren't quite touching. I believe what I did would have satisfied most people, but I knew at this point I was working for two perfectionists and in my eagerness to please them, I decided to try a few ideas that I felt would work. Normally my ideas to correct things do work, but in this case they didn't, and unfortunately they just made things worse. I informed the clients of the situation and responded by immediately giving them back all their money plus the cost of the wallpapers. I offered to remove the remaining wallpaper on the wall but that was declined. It comes off quite easily and could be removed in half a day. There is no damage to the walls other that some gray paint I applied in places to match the wallpaper. All in all, one days work for one man. I did painting of their living room walls. Under the circumstances I made no mention of that, but the work is still valid. The cost of that more than compensates for the removal of the wallpaper. I apologize for the inconvenience I caused these clients. However, if I really were as incompetent as this report makes me out to be, I wouldn't have the reports I have. Granted, there is only one wallpaper report, but that report testifies to my working with a difficult wallpaper, and that I do a proper clean up. In this case, because I was taken off the job, I didn't have the chance to do my usual clean up. Also, there had been another painter doing touch ups and plastering while I was there and he used no drop cloths. I covered all areas I was working in. Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience caused, but I believe I have made the necessary monetary compensations due of me in this case.

Kevin and his helper were very thorough and attentive to our needs, including getting the job done within the requirements of our building management. All the details were attended to. A few small oversights corrected right away. The whole job went very smoothly, and we look forward to the next phase of painting the apartment. It was a pleasure to work with someone so sensitive to our needs, especially having to paint our home in phases. And, if I may be permitted, Three Cheers for the Irish!

I found Shamrock Painting on Angie's List. Kevin came over to give me an estimate. I selected him from 4 estimates because he had a fair price and because he was very understanding of what needed to be done in the apartment. He answered questions and gave good suggestions. The work was completed in a timely way and looks great. Throughout the process, Kevin was reliable and responsive. A very good experience.
Description of Work: Kevin did some repair work to my plaster walls and painted them. The paint job is beautiful! The work was completed in the amount of time that he said it would take. My only complaint is the mess that it left behind, but I'm not sure that it could have been avoided. The quality of the work and the responsiveness were excellent.

Whenever extensive plaster work is done on a paint job, it is always required ( and usually understood ) that a separate cleanup be done. This is not ;usually done by the painting contractor. It is more usually done by a cleaning company if the client does not wish to do so themselves.

Kevin is a man of his word. The job needed to be done quickly, as I was moving in to the apt. in just over a week from when I first contacted Keven. He arrived promptly to give the estimate and was very clear about the work to be performed. He arrived on time to start the job and was very communicative throughout the entire process. He even worked on President's Day to get the job done. The end result is nothing short of excellent as Kevin is a true professional from start to finish. The apt. has wood floors and I was glad to find not even one drop of paint on them. Kevin is very careful and considerate of his surroundings. I love the paint job and it transformed the apartment from drab to fab!
Description of Work: Kevin painted my one bedroom apartment, approximately 850 sq. feet. The job involved some minor touch-up work to the walls and ceiling, since the walls are plaster and there was some cracking and water damage around the windows. Rooms painted: living room, dining room, bedroom and eat-in kitchen.

I found Kevin through a Pennysaver ad. I called him and he came over to take a look at the job an provide an estimate. We agreed on a price and he proceeded to start the job. I left him the key to my apartment and every day Kevin would come in and do his thing. It was amazing how he transformed our apartment. We have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so we split up the apartment so we could live in half while he painted the other half. Kevin was extremely tidy and worked very hard to fit in with our strict co-op laws which meant he could only paint from 9 AM to 5 PM from Monday to Friday. Each day I left for work, I left Kevin a note with ideas or questions or just a plain old hello, have a good day, and as soon as Kevin would arrive he would ring me at work to discuss what he was going to be doing that day. He helped with choosing the colors and even suggesting a special treatment in the bathroom, which turned out amazing. The job was finished in about 2 weeks and honestly, it was like moving in to a brand new apartment.
Description of Work: Kevin painted my entire apartment and it looks like a complete makeover. We love it. Kevin did a beautiful stencil in our living room which makes the whole place. He also did a special treatment in our bathroom where the walls look like a blue sky with clouds here and there. We have received so many compliments on the paint job. I highly recommend Kevin. His prices are great, he is professional, courteous, flexible and a really nice guy.

Couldn't have been a better experience. To find someone in New York of his professionalism and quality is rare.
Description of Work: Shamrock (Kevin Granahan) gave me a quote which I accepted. He then showed up on time with a second man and thoroughly tarped my space (I am an art dealer and he painted my viewing room). They worked quickly and professionally and I might add, quietly. Part of his job was to create an upper margin line around the entire room which has an uneven ceiling. He did a great job and the place looks spectacular. As a dealer I have people scrutinize paintings on the wall so a good paint job is important. Kevin produced an elegant surface with which I could not be happier. I will use him again when I need a painter. I have also recommended him to people in the trade who thought my viewing room looked wonderful.
