MDS Masonry & Residential Repairs

Great. Did exactly what I asked for, was on time and flexible. Very great work and called to check up to make sure I was happy a day later.

Instead of doing what he claimed he would do, clean out all the loose mortar and repoint the chimney with new mason mix, dyed to the color of the original, he did only an area of about 4' x 4', and left the remaining chimney to continue failing.  The chimney is approximately 8' wide x 20' high.  He went on the roof behind the chimney to quote the estimate but never went back up there to fix that portion, figuring I wouldn't go back up and look.  He also never dyed the small amount of work he did, because now with the new mix running down the chimney, it looks horrible.  Every contractor I've had come to our new house for other work says the chimney needs to be repointed.  I tell them.... I know.... as show them the area that was done already.  They all say......'and you paid this guy?'.  Well, I paid him because he met me in Albany at my job instead of at the house, so I 'assumed' the job was correct.  When I got home and saw what he did, I called him that same day and left a message requesting he return my call.  As expected, he never returned my calls.  He took that money and ran knowing quite well what he was getting away with.  Don't bother with this guy.  On a side note, he has pink and yellow dyed hair.  If he was as good at dying the mortar as he his at his hair..... he'd have a chance at being in business. 

We are very pleased with the results, and enjoyed dealing with Matt and his helper.  They worked SO HARD, and made sure it was done right, and looked good.  They started work a couple days after we first got their estimate, and even worked all weekend.  Each night, everything was neatly put away, and the work area cleaned up.  Aside from the necessary noise of the equipment, they were very quiet!

Matthew did an excellent job on a task that others might've quit on. I have never encountered anyone who worked as hard as Matthew did, all while maintaining a positive attitude. I was also impressed by his quick communication and price competitiveness.
This was a big job, made even bigger because the concrete had to be wheel-barrowed out of the backyard after being saw cut. Honestly, I was expecting him to quit on me (and I wouldn't have blamed him), but surprisingly, he was never deterred by what I'm sure turned out to be a harder job than he expected. Nevertheless, he stuck to his original estimate and worked consistently until the job was complete. The job site was left clean too.

Quality of work was excellent and done meticulously. The mason showed up on time and worked hard. Every crack or hole in the concrete was repaired so smoothly that one can't see where he replaced cinder blocks or made repairs to the sidewalk. He also came back several days later to make sure we were satisfied. The estimate he gave was the actual amount paid when the work was completed.
