CHAMPION HOME REMODELING

He did show up. He was responsive. I don't know if he got angry. People just need to realize it's up to the client when they decide, okay, let's not do the molding, let's do something else. Sometimes you can't figure in out all in one. And I did eventually paint the whole house by the way. The whole idea, sometimes clients don't decide the first time around. Maybe he thought he wasn't going to get any business from me, but he was wrong, I painted the whole house. He never called me back and the price seemed to be higher after I didn't want the molding. Again, it's up to the client to decide where their budget is. If they get a price and figure it's too expensive. It shouldn't be that they give a higher price and hope they go away.

I would give Champion and Danny an A++ if I could. We have a 1934 Tudor house with original wood (oak) windows and doors. The old single pane windows were drafty and hard to open, and the exterior storm windows (from the 1950s) were ugly and ineffective. The wood window frames and doors were beat up and the shellac finish had bubbled and cracked. I go into more detail about the window replacement shopping process below because it took us a long time to figure out the right way to do it. Danny knew exactly how to do this job! The window installation was fairly simple but the refinishing of the window frames and doors was really handcrafted, so the entire job took six weeks from the construction start date (and another eight weeks from time we agreed on the scope until the windows arrived and the installation began). Danny and every member of his team had exceptional customer service. They arrived on time, and called to let us know they were five minutes away. Every person associated with the job put in a full day’s work with exceptional focus on the job at hand. There were frequent check-ins to make sure we were on board with decisions about say leaving hardware on the doors or variations in stain color. They left the house spotless every day and were considerate of noise, cats, home office work, everything. The work is stunning and reflects craftsmanship and attention to detail that went far beyond our standards. The windows Danny recommended (Trimline), while not a name brand, are fantastic and much better quality in our view than the Andersen product sold by Home Depot. The price was fair and worth every pretty penny. Danny threw in a major gift—a custom rebuild of an attic window frame and door—that we would have happily paid for. The window shopping process prior to Danny was horrible. We approached Renewal by Andersen, their home remodel unit. The sales person required both spouse and me to sit through a 1-1/2 hour meeting that felt like a slimey time share pitch. The quote—three times any reasonable quote—was accompanied by an excited call to the home office, where “the boss” authorized a one- time discount of 20% if we signed that contract at that minute. I was thisclose to reporting them to the Department of Consumer Affairs for abusive sales practices (I know there is no such thing but it made us angry). We then went to Home Depot, where we arranged for a contractor to come to the house and discuss the low-end Andersen product. It would be delivered raw, without stain to match our wood trim so we would have to hire a separate painter (oh it’s easy to do yourself he said). He didn’t fill us with much confidence. We didn’t look at Marvin or Pella windows —neighbors had a bad experience with a Pella installer and there didn’t seem to be much difference with Andersen at different price points. But honestly we were getting tired of looking at that point. Then I did research (yes I know that should have been the first step) and it was clear that the installer is more important than the window product. At this point, Federal labelling laws tell you how the window will keep out temperature and wind and sun, but if the window is installed improperly the product doesn’t matter. So we switched gears and looked for quality window installers. That’s how we got to Champion Home Remodeling and Danny. Danny recommended Trimline windows and we were skeptical—who heard of Trimline? Given our previous experience with window sellers we were worried he was motivated by a commission rather than the best window type. But that was not the case. More research showed that Trimline was a smallish factory outside of Pennsylvania, and the Brooklyn Heights historic district approved them. We compared a sample to the Andersen window at Home Depot and there was no comparison. Trimline was sturdier, easier to operate, aesthetically cleaner lines and indeed all that has proved to be the case now that they are installed. The warranties seemed to be identical to Andersen. Danny was extra careful in the measurements and ordering—texting me frequently to make sure he had the correct finish and style on the hardware, for example. Danny said the windows (we have 24 of them) would take a week to install and he could do it if the weather was above 40 degrees I think. So we installed in the middle of January (!) – we went on a trip, and they were in place when we returned. Danny and the installer both made sure we checked every window and understood how to open them for cleaning. Very easy. The staining of the wood interior window panels and the sanding and staining of the window frames and doors (22 doors) was labor intensive to say the least. Danny’s subcontractor John created a test window so we could review the color of the stain and the satin poly coat. Somehow they recaptured the beautiful deep red/brown oak we loved about the house and suddenly we could see gorgeous grain (hidden under years of wear and dirt and shellac) that was almost as vivid as a tiger maple type contrast. Danny and team were obsessive about details and patient even welcoming of every punchlist item, and came back many times when we realized that a spot was missed or they realized something needed more work. We added work in the middle of the job and the adjusted price was more than fair. It was a pleasure working with Champion and we will use them for all future large remodeling jobs.

They came early, did the work and left. The repair was good and did what I needed.

Champion replaced our siding and windows and we couldn't be more pleased. The project went smoothly and was completed on-time and on-budget. The siding and windows look great and now we have the best looking house on the block.

Construction was smooth. We put a plan into place. They started with demolition, worked smoothly and very clean, roughed in plumbing and electric, installed cabinets and appliances. Finished with lighting and counters. The work was complete on-time and on-budget in three weeks. absolute perfect execution. Cannot say enough about Champion.

He's a good man and did a marvelous job. He works with us and helped us make decisions. He come and does the work when he is supposed to and has a good team of helpers.

All projects were handled professionally & with really concern for creating quality work. Always willing to go above & beyond for us. We couldn't be happier & will & have recommended them to our friends & family.

Danny has a bunch of great guys working for him, they show up on time and always clean up before they leave. I have never had a communication problem with Danny or any of his workers. They do a great job, When I need work done Champion Remodeling is the only company I call.

All the tradesman and the owner were very professional and courteous.....the work was done in a timely manner with good quality.

I did not happen. First Danny, estimator, did not show up for the initial appointment. I called/emailed and we made an appointment next day. He showed up late. No problem things happen. We did walk through/measurement and was told he would get back to me end of week with written estimate. No estimate at end of week. The following week nothing received so I email and call. No reply. Did get him once on the phone that estimate was coming. Never did ever get an estimate. Worst part is that he was recommended by a someone at my wife's work and had decent review on Angie's list except for the last one I read who experienced that same poor response. I would have expected a more professional response and respect as the renovation work would not be a trivia cost..

Great! They arrived on time. Did high quality work. They even moved and replaced the furniture.

I made an appointment with Danny to look at the bathroom at the town home that we are buying. We wanted a complete renovation. First of all he arrives 45 minutes late for 10am appointment. He called at 10 to say he was leaving. The broker, my wife, and I stood around till he shows inconveniencing us and the homeowner. He looks it over and also declares that we should use him for painting too as we want to repaint the entire home. In the entire time he took no notes, measurements, etc. We leave with Danny stating that he would be back to us with ideas in a few days. A week later he hasn't called so I email and call. Finally he texts back to say he was away for a few days and that he would call after the weekend. We never heard from him again. Thank goodness we never did business with Danny and Champion.

After discussing the price we set a starting date. 5 men showed up earlier than expected on that date. They were all very friendly and professional. After unloading their truck they explained everything to me and started work right away. They were very organized, coordinated and methodical. If there were any questions or problems they en-counted they discusted them with me before continuing. They finished all the work and repairs in one day. Also cleaning around the house after themselves. It almost was as though they weren't there at all. All of my phone calls to them were always returned promptly, which is fairly unusual these days. I also received a phone call after the first rain storm we had a week after the work was finished. The call was just to see if their work was satisfactory, and it was very satisfactory. Not one drop of water inside the house. I would highly recommend them and will use their services again in the future.

Mr. Champion sets the standard as the face for his business. He is affable and professional. He personally performed the estimate. He was punctual, which communicated his respect for my time. This is a rare commodity in the Huntsville area! Mr. Champion did a thorough job assessing my home's needs and gave me a detailed estimate and description of his services. Over the span of the next few weeks, I also obtained estimates from other local professionals, and eventually decided to use another company. The primary reason I didn't choose Champion was due to cost--the other contractors were less, and the company I chose was $4000 less....a significant difference in cost for me. That said, I would again request a price quote from Champion the next time I need services that they provide.

Punctual. They did an excellent job installing the windows and cleaning up afterward. They were flexible in terms of my schedule. They were very responsive and easy to work with.

The project went well. I am satisfied with the quality of the work. Went over the details of the job several times before hand to ensure the desired outcome would be achieved. Project evolved replacing two very old widows with more modern energy efficient vinyl replacement windows. The project also included replacing an old door that led out to a patio/veranda. This was an old energy inefficient door. Very satisfied with the workmanship on all 3 items.

Work was done efficiently and completed in a timely manner.

My wife and I are pleased with how the job went. Champion delivered on everything they told us from day 1. Champion did the job on time, and at a very good price for high quality windows. The guys from Champion completed the job without causing disruption in our house. They cleaned up at completion and always acted in a very professional way. We will be using them in the future for some other improvements we plan on getting done .

He came in and did the service that he had applied. We haven't moved forward from the project. He did what he was supposed to do. He gave us the price but we moved in to a couple of different directions. They could have been more prompt and punctual. They could be a little more elaborate and specific. The price could have been better.

Danny and his guys were fantastic. Danny was very responsive and always called me back right away -- a big deal for a contractor. The guys were courteous and polite. They did a great job cleaning up at the end of each day so that we could live in the house while they were working. Most importantly, the bathroom looks fantastic. I would definitely recommend Champion Home Remodeling and would use them again in the future.

Suggestions for deck structure, supports, connectors, and materials were well thought out. All work went according to schedule; work area was kept very tidy and cleaned up on a daily basis. Workers were dedicated to the job and professional, and went out of their way to ensure everything was done properly. Deck is wonderful, will be low maintenance, and enjoyed for many years to come!

Danny gave good advice and recommendations. Places to get tile and fixtures were reasonable and easy to deal with. Workers were on time, professional and had excellent work ethic. Unforeseen item in our way (rotted out floor under shower from previous leak in shower) was taken care of immediately and within budget. Tile work done beautifully, as well as installation of all bathroom items and painting. Great care was taken to protect bedroom right off bathroom. Very pleased with outcome -- love using the new bathroom!

Job when smooth. Had to come back for minor adjustments. Danny was punctual and profession. I would use him again.
