A Stewart Roofing and Waterproofing

Everything was fine. The only disappointment was that they couldnt clean the gutters out. But they were prompt and efficient.

He came several times. First he gave me the $99.00 diagnostic. He confirmed what I was told by other providers, that I needed a new flat roof. We made an appointment for him to replace the flat roof. He came and completed the job as he promised. He was very very knowledgeable and patient with all the many questiions that I had. He then came a few weeks later of his own volition, in order to follow up on the flat roof replacement. One of the things that we had discussed at the time of the flat roof replacement, was about a little water leaking into the house here and there. After careful investigation, he confirmed that none of the water was coming from the roof. I already had had the bricks repointed, and some of them replaced, so he suggested that I have a waterproof coating applied to the entire house ($1,500.00). When he came to follow up, he took care of that. A few weeks after that, I noticed a leak in the roof of my garage, which has its own flat roof. When he came originally, he said that the small flat roof over the garage didn't need replacing. He ascertained that it was related to a crack in a window frame. He was very honest, and admitted that he could have done some roof-related work to fix it, but instead suggested that I install a new window, which he doesn't do, and so wouldn't benefit financially from. In addition, when I noticed a day or two ago, that it looked like a piece of slate was loose on my roof, and that there was some kind of cable hanging from it, I called him and even though I emailed him a picture of it, without any hesitation, he offered to come to inspect it, to make sure it was ok. He came this morning, exactly as he said he would, inspected the piece of slate and cable that I was referring to and explained that it was one of two vents that was built into the original roof on purpose. I highly recommended Mr. Stewart as a capable, knowledgeable roofer.

He found some other problems that were going to be problems in the future and he took care of all of those things. The basement is dry and there have been no leaks in the roof. They did good work. They found all of the problems and all of the potential problems and they did what they had to do plus more to make sure there wouldn't be a problem in the future and that it would be corrected the first time around.

It went very well. They did an excellent job. They arrived on time. We have recommended them to a friend. The only problem we had is that they were out of town for a long time and follow up was not great.

Mr. Stewart is a gentleman, and by all indications, an excellent roofer. I enjoyed meeting him and his family when they came to do our estimate, and I felt very confident he knew what he was doing when it came to fixing our roof. That said, his business model seems to suffer from the myopia that many contractors have while trying to run their own businesses and be on the job site at the same time. While he almost always returned my calls promptly, it took him several weeks (and no less than 15 reminders) to provide us with his license number and insurance policy. Further, upon inspection and review by a lawyer, the proof of insurance which he provided to us (after 3 weeks of hounding) was not valid for either roofing work, or work in NYC. I really liked Alex, but after 40 years of roofing in NYC, these very central parts of your business should be a no brainer. Unfortunately, we had to go with someone else for the work.

Do not hire this roofer. You think you're hiring him for his expertise but he subcontracts the work. His family must have written all his good reviews.

I had purchased the $99.00 roof inspection package. Alex Sr. called to verify my appointment. Upon their arrival, I forgot that my fence is in close proximity to the house, which prevents easy access to the roof. The base of the ladder must put be placed on my neighbor's property. My neighbor has a gated fence. I forgot to inform them that I needed access from their property. Since it was early, (9 am on a Saturday) Alex told me not to ring their bell and he would handle. "No worries," he said. Well...what happened next was amazing, but gave me a new strand of grey hair! Alex brought his oldest son, Alex Jr., with him for assistance. Alex Jr. held the ladder straight, against the house and stated to his father, "just like an fire escape, Dad." Like Santa Claus, Alex Sr. (who looks great for his age!) proceeded to climb my fence and up the ladder, 3 stories high. In 10-20 seconds, he was on my roof like a Ninja...POOF! My poor nerves. Not only did they inspected the roof, but took pictures and cut a small piece of my roof to show me its condition. Since my roof is large, he gave me a few ideas on how to replace it. He is knowledge about roofs and is very honest regarding types of materials needed, lifetime warranties, the cost of the repair, etc. I researched this info, prior to speaking to him. I know what he was telling me was the truth. I will be calling them in the near future to repair my roof.

We just used them for the first time. Pleased that they were polite, articulate, honest and reliable. They arrived on time and did not try to sell us what we didn't need. Explained how we could make a simple repair to downspout ourselves instead of spending money on having them do it. Very impressed that they were able to show us iphone video of the damaged part of the roof and offer an up close view of the work needed and explain how they would do it. Arrived on time to do the work and completed the job as promised.

A. Stewart was the fourth contractor I spoke to about repairing and painting the wood cornice of my 1880's row house. I found his price to be very competitive for this work especially because he was the only contractor I could find that really specialized in this type of work. He and his team were timely, exceedingly polite, thorough, and tidy completing the work in one day. I would definitely hire him again.

WARNING: DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. The first appointment was scheduled on a Tuesday at 11 am. At 11:45 I called to check to find out when they would be arriving and was told they were two hours away. As I was paying other contractors by the hour who needed to meet with Alex Stewart before doing the job, I made the decision to reschedule. We scheduled the next appointment on the following Monday at 11 am. I sent text messages asking Alex Stewart to inform me if he was running behind schedule. There was no response to my text message and the voice mail was full (almost always) and could not accept messages. This was almost always the case On the one occasion when I was able to leave a message, it was ignored. On our second scheduled appointment, Alex Stewart simply did not show up. We waited two hours for him and was unable to reach him at all times.. It was a big waste of time and money. UNPROFESSIONAL, UNRESPONSIVE, UNRELIABLE AND INCOMPETENT. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

I wasted one entire day, waiting at home for this provider. Never a call back to explain why the NO SHOW. This is the most unprofessional and unconscionable behavior I have ever come across. If Angie's list continues to rate this service provider as "A" it really puts Angie's List 's integrity in question. I will reconsider continuing my membership.

It was good and went fine, a very nice gentleman. Although came when it was raining so it couldn’t be done during then for a minor fix.

Called provider to give a quote as he is located in the Bronx. Provider came and gave an honest quote.

I have a warranty with a roof company but whenever I would call them they would say that whatever repairs I needed were not covered and I had to pay for them. So when I saw what looked like a leak, I grabbed the $99 Big Deal Roof Maintenance Package. Alex and his son came, looked very knowledgeable and very friendly, told me my roof was fine, the leak was due to a clogged gutter that they unclogged with a stick, and told me I need some repairs that they could do for $800, explaining that those repairs were not included in the big deal (flashing, covering the gutter with a mesh, elevating one part of the roof with a couple of bricks to prevent clogging). When I ask why so expensive, they explained many things to me, how it was still good but cracking up because of the sun?s UV, etc. etc. I saidI wanted to think about it. They told me I really needed to do those repairs asap, my warranty wouldn?t cover that (which I was ready to agree to considering my experience with my roofing company); they offered to knock out $75 if I was doing the repairs immediately. They said I should take advantage of their being already on the roof; they had some material for another job, so it would be cheaper for me, I could called other contractors, it wouldn?t be cheaper, etc. etc. I really felt pressure and was hesitating. I was already taking time off work to deal with that issue and wanted it resolved. I also thought that I didn?t have much to lose since they were vetted by Angie?s list and had a good rating (A). Most of the reviews were good, a couple not so happy, but you would expect that. I ended up paying $725 + the Big Deal price. So I don?t feel like I had a deal at all. They showed me pictures of the roof and it looks beautiful but I can?t tell really, so I?m hoping that I won?t have to worry about their workmanship on top of everything else. Now, I think that a contractor is entitled to ask for whatever they want but that it?s up to the customer to use their common sense. When I researched the internet (which I should have done before) I saw that the kind of job they could be done for less than half the amount they charged me for. So I was embarrassed to write a review about my experience, feeling like a fool for letting myself being talked into paying all that amount without allowing myself to think and double check. Then my neighbor called to say that the people working on my roof had knocked on their door and tried to talk her old mother and uncle into fixing their roof; I found that aggravating and I reminded me of the scare tactics used to intimidate people into doing repairs. As a single woman, I found difficult to hire trustworthy workers and one of the reasons I joined Angie?s List was to avoid the pain and hassle involved in choosing a contractor and limit the risks of getting it wrong. I do feel ripped off and should probably only blame myself for that.

I read the reviews on here and realized that all of Mr Stewarts negative remarks were because he was late for an appointment or maybe never retuned a phone call. Not because of the work performed.So I decided to use Mr Stewart and I 'm so happy I did. I Called him for a estimate and he came and went on my roof and told me I had 4 layers of shingles on my roof and I also had 3 huge dish apparatuses that had to be removed. Mr Stewart definitely has a ton of experience. I got 2 more estimates and he's was one of the most reasonable. I felt comfortable with the level of expertise and how he explained what had to be done. My roof was put up and it looks amazing. His guys worked all day. My roof was done in one day. It looked great.His work is great, his workers are hard working guys. I would definitely recommend Mr. Stewart for anyone looking to purchase a new roof.

The man seemed very nice and knowledgeable but I'm just disappointed that I basically paid $99 for an estimate and nothing else. I called him back and asked him about what the price would be to replace the entire roof, he stated that he would need to come back and give a new estimate. We scheduled for Monday. He missed our appointment time on Monday, so I called to find out how late he was running and he ended up reschedule for the following day. Tuesday he never showed again.

Excellent experience from start to end! This father and son team were professional and nice to deal with. They took the time to explain where the leak was coming from and why I was still getting cracks in my ceiling. There were 5 layers of old roofing on my lower roof. The removed the 5 layers and found routed wood underneath, so the wood had to be replaced. They then installed a brand new roof and it looks amazing! They even came back when I called the next day to calm my concern of one shingle that I had thought had a tear in it but it didn't.

It was okay. They were very friendly and nice. I thought it was very pricey because we had paid for that special $100 for checking it out and they charged us $400 for a little hole. But, I would recommenced them because they were nice and they came on time. They came when they said they were going to come. They were very professional.

Scheduled for a few weeks ago on a Saturday, no call-no show. Scheduled for the following Saturday, got confirmation on the Thursday before that he'd be there. Again, no call-no show. They again scheduled for this past Saturday and again, no call-no show.

The problem is that the gentleman that came was his son. He basically gave me an estimate to do my roof, he didn't do anything. He didn't do any small repair or anything else. He took some pictures to show me my roof but he only gave me an estimate. I never used him before. I thought that he would do as it said because it was for minor repairs. He didn't do any kind of minor repairs and he really didn't do anything. I have repairs that need to be made, I had a tree that I took down since that time that was resting between the house and another house. Branches were falling off on the roof so I knew that there was probably some damage that was made. I was very disappointed with them. I didn't need to spend $90+ for someone giving me an estimate. He told me that I had to go to a doctor and he'll give me an estimate then there's a bill. That's not really what I thought it was going to. He should have made a minor repair on my roof or something but he didn't do it. He was really prompt and he came when he said he was going to come.

Showed up on time. Did the work well. Left some materials, but came back the next day to remove. The price was a little steep for the job entailed. Alex and his son are very nice and professional.

Appointment was made with A.Stewart for 10:30am Friday, May 23,2014. I waited, no one showed.
