The previous owner of my house had installed French Drains. Regardless, I still had water coming into my basement--especially after a hard rain or thaw. I got estimates from several companies and different opinions on what the problem was and how to fix it. By coincidence (and VERY good luck) I happened to find the contractor who had installed the French Drains. Shane Armstrong, owner of Armstrong Waterproofing, remembered installing the drains several years ago. Now--the REALLY OUTSTANDING part of this story, is that Shane wanted to stand by his work! Shane didn't have to do that--since I was not the party who had the drains installed. But luckily, that didn't matter to Shane! He insisted he would make it right with me and find out why I continued to have a water issue in my basement. It took many, many steps and missteps to figure out where and how the water was coming in. Shane's crew dug out around my drains THREE times! Shane even reimbursed me the cost of having a plumber go down the drain with a camera! Shane was absolutely determined and committed to solving my water problem! It took quite a long time, and much frustration, to figure it out--but finally, Shane determined that the lining around my chimney's perimeter needed to be redone. Since that was completed, I have not had any water coming into my basement! I can't thank Shane enough for all the hard work he and his crew put into this project! Shane is truly one of the BEST contractors I've ever dealt with--he's a man of his word and stands by his work one thousand and one percent! I would recommend him to everyone out there in Angie's List Land! :-) If you have water in your basement--Shane Armstrong is the man for your job! Don't waste your time calling any other company! THANK YOU, SHANE!

armstrong waterproofing were schedule to start work at our house on oct.29th 2014 , but they finished a job early in brockport , called us monday morning , and said , they could start today oct.27th , shane and his sons and crew came over within the hour and started work , shane really explained what they needed to do , and suggested that we add a curtain drain and liner in front of our foundation wall , everything was done neatly , professionallly and finished on time , my wife and i are so happy with the job they did , i will recommend them to anyone, and i would be more than happy to have anyone come to our house and see the work that was done , we have had at least 4 companies over to are house in the last few months for estimates , everyone else just wanted to give a quick fix by putting waterpfoofing on the inside walls , i am so happy we joined angie's list , we did get the very best company for our repairs , call armstrong waterproofing , they will give you a guarentee , it really is very hard to find someone you can actually trust with your home repairs ..... you won't be disappointed ......
Description of Work: they did excavation work outside our foundation walls , by digging 6 feet down , and waterproofing our outside walls , plus replaced our installation in our basement , they also added a 15 foot curtain drain with liner , that are builder didn't put in . when it rained heavy , we had water pouring in through our basement electric box, shane and his crew did a such an unbelieveable job , that they will be doing repairs this spring at my mother in laws home .....

Shane came out to our home a few times to look at our issue. He advised us to call a mold inspector. He went around our home and gave us ideas on how to keep water away from our home and keep basement dry. He was such a great man, and I will use him for any service that we may need down the road.

I left a phone message with the above information. Shane called back, and after I provided the same information and a little more, he said, "Well I'm not going to come look at it for free!" I asked why, and he lit into me, saying "Who - in his right mind - would come out there to look at work that someone else did - " That is all he said because I interrupted to say that I didn't want to work with him and hung up. I could not believe my ears. It was insulting, rude, and completely unprofessional. He could have said that he would need to charge a certain amount and explain why without being so rude. And his listing here says that he provides free estimates, so in my mind that shouldn't be an issue.
Description of Work: I have recently had my basement waterproofed, but I am still getting water in the basement. I am calling other waterproofing companies (I won't be working with the company that did the initial work) to look at what I have, tell me what I need to do, and give me an estimate for that work.

That is not how I recall the conversation. She called and left a message on my recorder saying. That her basement had just been waterproofed by another co. and it was leaking . She also said that she wanted an evaluation on the work that was done and what to do to correct it. She never said she did not want them back to correct the job and I assumed that was what she wanted by her message. We had record rains that day and the night before and my phone was ringing off the wall with estimates. I called her back and left a message for her to call me. She called me back and I asked her several questions. The first one was who did the work?. She did not want to tell me " I do not want to bad mouth anyone" I told her it would help because I am familiar with many of the competators systems but if she did not want to tell me I guess it did not matter. I was trying to figure out if it was just a cement job curing and sweating with all the rain since it was a newely installed job. After a few more questions I told her I was in the area and could stop by that day.She said fine . Then I said I would have to charge her . She became short and asked how much. I said $.100.00 She said to" never mind she was not paying for an estimate." I said OK but let me ask you a question. "Who in there right mind would would come out an evaulate another company's job for free? She said certainly someone nicer than you and hung up. I did not mean to be insulting but I believe I asked a legitamate question. There are too many variables to get into here but there is a huge difference between a free estamate and inspecting someone elses work and telling them how to fix it. So If I offended her with my praticality I appologize. If any of you take the time to look deeper into my reviews I believe you will agree that I am professional and completley fair with all . 36 years of being honest and doing quailty "guarnteed" work should account for something and for a person who has never met me or that I did any work for to stretch the truth to make themselves feel better and drag my name in the mud is a bit irritating to say the least. So the company she doesn't want back for some reason she doesn't want to say anything about but it appears she was very quick to bad mouth me. I was just trying to help her figure out what if anything went wrong. Shane L. Armstrong

Shane was very professional and punctual. He walked me through his solutions and ideas for our backyard drainage. I felt very comfortable with him. He stated that he would draw up an official estimate and send it to me. Unfortunately I have yet to hear from him and it has been several weeks. Otherwise he was very pleasant and I likely would have had no problems using him for the job.

I will be paying him for this work but have chosen not to hire him for the overall job because of his attitude towards me and the lack of professionalism.
Description of Work: He gave me an estimate for water drainage in my yard and some work in my crawlspace. I was worried about my generator falling off the stand. He called me high maintence and said I worry too much. He sent his son out to build a brace for the generator.

Response from ARMSTRONG WATERPROOFING Inc
Customer complained to me that no one else would give him a price after meeting him. When I told him I could fix his problem he told me he wanted to do the job , but had to pay me in monthly payments. I asked him if he needed help getting a loan . He told me he would not qualify. After agreeing to hold paper for him and getting permission from the town to connect to the storm sewer. We got a firm price and agreed on a payment plan , but nothing was signed.. I told him none of this work could be done before the spring thaw. The first warm day in March he called me and wanted to know if I could do something.I told him it was way too early to start digging outside. 2 weeks later he called me 2 times on a saturday night and 1 time on a sunday morning. He insisted I brace up his generator. I told him I did not think it was necessary and maybe he should have the guy who installed it brace it up . He wanted me to do it even though I did not price it into his job. I told him I would but he would have to pay me for it. Again he said he did not have any money right now but would pay me the first of the month. We did what he asked and almost 2 months have gone by with NO PAYMENT and now I see he gave me a bad report. I did tell him when he called me on a Sunday morning that maybe the reason no one else would give him an estimate was that he may be too high maintance and that he was scarring me from doing his job.

They had a big job once they started digging into my existing drain trench because it was clogged with iron oxide. Armstrong had to remove concrete, dig out and re-do entire existing trench. They installed weep holes around perimeter of basement walls, treated mold, installed Dura-wall panels on walls, treated iron oxide, installed 6 floor drains for maintenance of problem, sprayed foam insulation in the rim band, installed 4 window well drains, raised the grade in front, side and back of house. Shane Armstrong's sons Brandon and Ryan, along with an employee Michael, were in my home the entire week. They were hard working, respectful, and overall nice guys to have in my home. The entire experience was outstanding. I've already recommended Armstrong Waterproofing to a friend and am delighted knowing she'll benefit from their honesty, reliability, and excellent work. I love Angie's list! I've had wonderful experiences with service providers I'm hired from it. Shane Armstrong and his crew are among the best in my opinion!

Every time it rained or the snow melted our basement would get wet and of course mold started to grow on the lower level of the house. The vinyl tiles on the floor started to crumble. Shane had them tested and since they had asbestos we had to have those removed first (by another company). Shane helped me to take care of that. Then they installed a drainage system and wrapped the wall. They also graded the yard outside so the basement blocks don't get wet, and installed a dehumidifier that required extra ductwork. I couldn't be happier with the process and the results. The price was lower than the quotes I got from two other companies and Shane and his crew were very professional, answered all my e-mails in a timely manner, and did an excellent job. Our basement has been dry ever since. I just wish I had it done sooner.

They showed up on time and got right to work. The job had originally been scheduled for 3 days, possibly 4, but they didn't run into a single problem. So they actually finished in two days. It seems to work just fine.
Description of Work: The pipes under the basement slab that were supposed to drain into the sump didn't drain properly anymore. Armstrong broke up the slab, took out the old pipe, put in new gravel and new pipe. The new pipe has cleanouts every 8 feet or so. Then they poured new cement to repair the slab, and did a good job cleaning up.

We had Armstrong come and take a look at our basement because water was coming in through the front wall where a planter is attached to the front of the house. We had no idea what to do. So they came out, told us exactly what had to be done, and then they did the whole job in one day. They worked diligently and efficiently, and another thing, they were very reasonably priced. They went above and beyond what they told us they were going to do and I would definitely recommend Armstrong to anyone who wants a quality job that's done right the first time!

We are incredibly pleased with the job that Armstrong Waterproofing did in our basement! The Durawall panels are SOOOOO nice! We have had no problems with water thusfar, and am confident that we will not. The workmen were very polite and easy to work talk to. I also noticed how well they work together! It is a labor-intensive, dirty job. They kept things neat and tidy and the finished job made our basement look brand new! I highly recommend Armstrong Waterpoofing.

We interviewed 5 different contractors, all of whom took a slightly different approach to addressing water issues in our basement. I found Shane Armstrong to be very realistic in his approach without going to extremes. If I could have taken one element from each of the contractors, at a reasonable price, I would have done so. Shane however, I believe, was the best option. His sons were great workers, described in detail the work to be accomplished and left the basement in good shape when they left.

Overall, 100% satisfied. Shane Armstrong estimated the job and terms, including analysis of the basement drainage issues and a complete walk around the foundation outside with suggestions on plantings and drainage to keep water off of the foundation. I received estimates from other companies for less money, but went with Armstrong based on their thorough and knowledgeable assessment. We scheduled the work for January after receiving the estimate in September. Having originally received an estimate including wall sealing at half-height in the basement, we decided to seal to the full wall height for a more finished look. Shane was able to get the extra material and the crew started the job within the same week as originally agreed to. The work took 2 days, with the first day involving the cleaning and sanitizing along with drilling the weep holes. The second day involved the actual installation of the wall and trench sealing system. The crew arrived promptly both days and kept the basement sealed with an air scrubber running to minimize dust. The finished product was definitely worth the price. The basement is much cleaner and brighter, with a more finished look. We are taking advantage of the extra living space. The job was completed nearly a year ago with no issues since. We are completely satisfied and would work with Armstrong again.

We purchased a 20 year home in the late spring and didn't notice ongoing water damage in the basement stairs until the next year. We had used Angie's list when we lived in a different state, so turned to them again as we had always been satisfied with the referrals we got from them. That is how we found Armstrong Waterproofing. We were very pleased with the services performed by this company. Initially, the proposal included repairing 2 tiers of the landing instead of three. When the work started they saw that the damage was more extensive. The willingly lowered their proposed fee a significant amount to accomodate the additional services needed by a construction company. They moved us up on the calendar so we wouldn't have to wait too long to have the work done. It can be very worrisome to a homeowner when there is a water problem in their basement! They also worked around a scheduled vacation we had planned. We recommend them highly!!!
Description of Work: Armstrong Waterproofing repaired a water problem we had in our basement stairwell. The services included removing a 3 tier landing, damaged drywall, studs, insulation and wood trim. The walls were then dewatered and the stairwell cleaned and sanitized. Drains were installed and the walls were sealed. They poured a concrete cap that was necessary to repair a trench at the bottom step.

Armstrong Waterproofing was one of three waterproofing companies I received estimates from. Mr. Shane Armstrong impressed me with his experience and straightforward assessment of my project requirements. He also let me know that it was a big job, one that he really wanted to have his company tackle. After due consideration, my wife and I decided to pull the trigger and sign a contract with Armstrong to have the work done. Actually, we didn't sign anything. Shane Armstrong and I shook hands to seal the deal. Monday, October 8th, Brandon Armstrong, Wayne and Rob showed up with their trucks and equipment. They immediately got to work. The three guys knew what needed to be done and they did it with professionalism. They finished Friday afternoon around 1PM. It was a huge job!! It hasn't rained yet but I'm confident that the system will work flawlessly. I was at the house for much of the time and observed the care with which the work was done and the waterproofing system installed. The White Plastic Wall panels look absolutely beautiful. The basement is now a different place in both looks and smell. My wife and I are very happy with the results!
Description of Work: 1.) Cellar Saver System installed. This included excavation of inside basement perimeter, creation of drainage/weep holes for existing block wall foundation, filter fabric sub base, PVC pipe drainage sections, stone base, stone backfill and new concrete floor for excavated areas 2.) New concrete floor installed in Fruit Cellar. Existing floor wood over dirt. 3.) New floor drains 4.) Re-plumbed drain for Laundry Tubs. 5.) Existing Block Walls sanitized to kill mold. 6.) Basement Walls sealed with Dura-Wall system. 7.) Sump well and Sump Pump installed with plumbing to outside. 8.) 30' Leach Line dug in backyard with permeable pipe and stone. This disperses any water from sump pump.
