The owner, Will Johnson, was easy to communicate with, seemed knowledgeable, and he and his two associates started work promptly. I was home with my two young children as work progressed and everything seemed to be going okay. On the second day of work, one of Will's associates notified me that the fire door was installed but I'd need to replace the molding around the door because "it doesn't look good". Concerned, I brought my 3 and 1 year old downstairs to look. What I found was the old molding of the old door sloppily pieced together and replaced on the frame. I was told that the old molding on the old door was already broken before they started work. Not a chance. We had been to the house several times and would have noticed such obvious damage. In addition, the previous owner kept the house in incredibly meticulous fashion- there is a less than zero chance this would've remained unaddressed. Holding my son on my hip, I also noticed that the housing for the deadbolt was loose. And installed upside down. The word DEFIANT was literally upside down. I pointed this out and was told that it's "just the housing for the lock" and that "the screw was bad". Another lie- this lock was replaced on the old door and was brand new. Any damage to the lock did not exist until Cornerstone Property Care touched it. I was ready to pay them but, overwhelmed by the fact that they were just going to leave this mess as their finished product, I asked them to please fix it. The lock was turned right side up and, miraculously, the screw had a change of heart and the housing fit tightly to the door. I would, however, incur an additional charge for them to fix the molding, which I said I'd accept, but later realized was unfair based on their dishonesty. They left, ready to return the next day to fix the molding at an additional cost and be paid. Now panicked, I toted my kids around the house (I have other work going on) to inspect the other work Cornerstone Property Care had done. I was not prepared to play amateur contractor, thinking I was hiring professionals, but clearly I had reason to be worried. The caulking around the outdoor vent for one of the bathroom fans was sloppily done. The caulking on the brick seam was also sloppily done and I was later informed by a contractor that it should've been done with concrete caulk, not whatever Cornerstone Property Care used. The fire door issues were remediated at no extra charge, though it wasn't until my husband had a conversation with Will and his associates that this arrangement was made. The final product ended up looking better as a result and they were paid in full, regrettably. (Side note- They posted a picture of THIS finished product on their Facebook page. Not their original finished product, obviously. And without our permission). The most alarming outcome of Cornerstone Property Care's work was their installation of the vent from the other bathroom fan going through our roof. When merely viewed from our yard at ground level, I looked with a contractor who indicated that the shingles around the vent were lifted. I contacted a roofer, who, upon inspection of the installation, stated that it would require repair, as it was done so improperly to the extent that it would eventually lead to leakage and damage. The incompetence of Cornerstone Property Care is now COSTING us money, as per the following: 1. Exterior - Vent cap was not recessed under shingles. - Vent cap was nailed on top of shingles, leaving nails/holes exposed to elements. - Diameter of opening placed in the roof was not large enough for vent. - Inner part of vent was "crimped" to attempt to fit the incorrect diameter opening. 2. Interior - Vent hose was not properly connected to the exterior vent. - Vent hose & exterior vent were not properly sealed. And, inexplicably, they'd like to know why we didn't call them back to fix it. I guess they're not familiar with the saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me". In short, I wouldn't hire Cornerstone Property Care to change a lightbulb- they'd probably change it, break your fixture, tell you it was broken when they started, and then try to charge you to replace it. Run.
Description of Work: installation of two bathroom vent fans, the installation of a fire door, and a small repair to the caulking of the brick on the exterior of our house.
