The gentleman who came to fix it was excellent. He was polite and professional. The part I did not appreciate was the pushback I got from the person I scheduled the appointment with. I have an Annual Agreement, which I pay good money for, and thought it gives me priority access when I actually need service. The pushback and lack of urgency I experienced when trying to schedule the repair was quite disappointing.

First I wanted to mention, I rarely do reviews, and I know most people don't usually do them unless it's negative feedback, but I am so impressed with this company, that I thought I needed to pay it forward and take a moment of my time to say 'thank you'!! Carey & Walsh has been servicing my equipment for years and have always been great, but I have to say I was mostly impressed with the professionalism and charm of this company's salesman, Scott. Recently I had to replace our furnace and he was extremely responsive and quick to thoroughly answer all of my questions and I found myself trusting him right from the start. When it came to the actual service, his men were in and out quickly and were very polite and courteous as well. Very clean too which was very much appreciated!! Most importantly, my family had consistent heat for the rest of the winter! The best thing is, is that I know if I had any questions that C&W would be readily available and willing to help us out unlike many other contractors out there. Will continue being a loyal customer. Thank you!!

After a fairly quick inspection, one of the members of Carey and Walsh said he would get back to me right away with an estimate on a whole house humidifier. After not hearing for a week, I called back and the rep still promised that he was working on it. Still have not heard back...not impressed

The repair person came on time and was professional. I had to ask a lot of questions because the individual was not very communicative about the issues that my system had. On his recommendation, I agreed and they changed more than a few things to make sure that the unit was working properly including changing a small pipe and replenishing freeon in the condenser. The person doing the repair said that all should be good but the air conditioning stopped working again in a few weeks. This was the second time this provider had come in and repaired our unit and it stopped working again. Got a different provider in and the other provider said the job was not done properly and that they fixed it. No issues presented itself after that through out the summer and winter season with the system.
Description of Work: The provider came to check why the air-conditioning was not working.

CW was called because of their locality and "reputation" with some neighbors. They arrived late, did a quick diagnostic and said we needed to replace some things. After first time, still not working so they were called back and they put another $600 of work into it. A couple weeks later, still not working again and this time gave us an estimate of over $2500 additional work. Needless to say, they were not called back for the additional work.
Description of Work: Heating not working. They ended up coming back 3 times and it was still not fixed - resulted in close to $800 and was not resolved!

The basic work took about two days. There were some problems with the work, e.g., the installers severly damaged an interior door and did not report it to me or, apparently, to their employer. They also did not properly seal duct work, which let hot air during the winter and cold air during the early summer leak from the system. They dislodged an outside electrical connection box and left it on the ground, again without reporting this to anyone. They were otherwise sloppy, e.g., lots of dirty finger marks on the walls in the garage and utility room. They took more than five months to return to address the problems, which just this month, 10 months later, were resolved. Fortunately, I did not pay the entire bill, but retained about 7%, which I now am about to pay.

Response from Carey & Walsh inc.
[Member name removed], I am sorry you were not satisfied with your experience. I do have to note that we returned to your home shortly after the installation to seal the air leaks which were also on your existing duct work. We made 3 visits in total to repair the air leaks to your satisfaction. The men did scratch the door and I apologize that it was not brought to your attention. I had a man there for almost an entire day sanding and to re-polyurethane the door. Unfortunately you felt the scratch was still unacceptable and you requested the door be replaced. It did take a long time for us to get the door and polyurethane it and install it and for that I apologize again. Now that all the loose ends are tied up I hope you are happy with the performance of the system and I hope you would consider using us again in the future.

I had a new A/C condenser put in last year and it wasn't working. I called Carey and Walsh for service. The technician explained that it needed Freon and it would not need more than 5 lbs. When he was finished (2 hours later) he gave me a bill for $751.xx. I was shocked as I put in the new system last summer. He charged me for 7 lbs (not the 5 he quoted) plus labor. I asked if there was something we could do with the bill and he gave me an emphatic NO! So I gave him a check for $751.xx and he left. I felt like I was 'taken'. And, after 2 days, the air conditioner was not working again. A few days later the owner of the company called to sell me other parts and I explained my dissatisfaction with the bill. I explained that the technician told me it would be no more than 5 lbx, and he charged for 7 lbs and 2 hrs of labor and that the system was still not working with 2 days of the repair. He agreed to lower it to $590.xx and sent the same technician back to see what went wrong. The technician came back, he looked at the outside condenser, then went up into my apartment to the thermostat, told me to leave the thermostat blower to the ON position. The system was still not working. He gave me a bill to sign and said there was No Charge for this visit. I signed the bill with NO dollar amounts. A week later, I received a 'copy' of the bill that I signed with $128.xx written into the page. Still NO A/C. After arguing my case with this company, I ended up paying them the $590.xx for no air conditioner. They did not fix my A/C first time and did not honor there warranty to fix it within 30 days. I have to say I was VERY DISATISFIED as I had NO air conditioning and it cost me $590.xx. I had to hire another company to come and fix the system. I'm sure they will likely send a response to this email saying that they were not a fault. I disagree. If I pay you that kind of money, I should have a working A/C. My loss ...$590.xx! Call another company to service your Air Conditioner!

Half hour before the range of time provided was going to end we called the company to inquire about the technician. The person we talked to said that there was no record of our appointment. Further he did not apologize for their mistake of dropping the ball on our appointment nor did he offer a solution, Apparently the Company is absolutely okay with their clients taking their business elsewhere.

Prompt response for request for appointment for full AC install in older house. Update 9/4/13: Received call from Tim in the beginning of August asking me to change my review on Angie's List even though he did not provide us with a quote for the work we received. I changed by grade to a and quot;Band quot; with the promise from Tim that we would receive the requested quote within the next day or so. No quote was ever received. Find another AC contractor to do the work. They don't seen too reliable.

Overall this was a horrible experience and we felt we were treated very unfairly. The Customer Service and quot;MANand quot; was so arrogant and rude. I hope no one else has to go through what we went through. I guess this is how they make extra money. Sad, especially in these tough times.
Description of Work: The man who works in the Customer Service Department is the rudest person I have ever dealt with. Our central air zone upstairs was not working. I called Carey and Walsh and set up an appointment. I took the day off from work and when the gentlemen arrived (very late for the appointment) he explained since he was late he would need more time and he would have to return the following day. He did absolutely nothing during this appointment. I took another day off and the man never showed the next day. He never even called to say he couldn't make it. Another vacation day lost. About two to three weeks later. I received a bill in the mail for this appointment, so I called to say I shouldn't be charged since he didn't fix anything and never even showed the next day. He didn't even have the decency to call. This is when I dealt with their Customer Service "MAN". I told him I should not be charged and he said the guy showed up the first time and he was "sorry" about the following day. I knew I would not get anywhere with him so I called back and left a message for Mr. Carey. He never returned my call and all I received were late notices for this bill. I was in the middle of selling my house and I did not want to jeopardize my situation so I paid the bill. WARNING be careful with these people. I would never use them. The guy in Customer Service should be fired and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Most parts went very well. The installer was easy to talk to, and responsive to questions. They went out of their way to accommodate the needs of the tenant and the old houses. There were a few delays due to coordinating work by others, and the asbestos remediation. And when the new system was connected, it wouldn't fire at first, and it took a couple of visits before they realized some mixture adjustments were needed due to using propane instead of natural gas Overall, I am pleased with the work and the results.
Description of Work: Replaced two old oil-fired boilers with new, high-efficiency propane-fired boilers. Re-piped all existing gas piping. Removed old boilers (one had to have its asbestos insulation removed first). Installed new intake and outlet flues, and sealed old chimneys. Adjusted boilers for maximum effeciency with a flue-gas analyzer.

Tech arrived on time. Unit was promptly installed during the day. Old unit removed. Everything tested. Full clean-up. After the installation, I noticed some soot around the flue. Called them up and emailed some pictures of what I was seeing. He promptly responded and made recommendation on getting chimney cleaned - that the 30 year old previous boiler that was restarted after being submerged in flood was the likely culprit. Overall - very thorough, responsive and fairly priced.
Description of Work: We needed to replace our boiler after Hurricane Irene hit and got a quote from our current oil service company. It seemed high - and upon researching the make/model, it was clear the price was ridiculously high. I called a couple of other HVAC guys - and had a hard time finding one to install a new Oil Burner. Those that quoted me were either seemingly shady operations that wanted cash upfront or priced it near the oil company (which was over $9,000 btw). Enter Scott from Carey & Walsh - prompt response. Email with terms - and the price was very reasonable for a higher spec of equipment. I called to ask about the equipment he was specing out - a more efficient unit than the oil company had spec'd and less than 2/3 of the price. All of it in writing in advance. I signed the deal and they scheduled the appointment before my deposit even got to them.

They were scheduled to come to my house from 8 am to 12 pm. I stayed home from work during this time frame. I called them during that time frame to see how soon they would be there. No one ever responded to me. They called me at 12:15 to tell me that they were running late. I had already left to go to work, so my wife had to wait for them. They didn’t show up until 1 pm. My wife had to leave for work after they were only there for 10 minutes. They said that they would have to return later since they didn’t have enough time to fully assess the situation. I told them that I would call to reschedule the estimate. I then received a bill in the mail for an hour of service. I called for an estimate, not a service call, so I should not have been charged. When I contacted them about this, they said that they were there and that they charge that amount to come to people’s homes. Apparently they misinterpreted my request for an estimate for a service call. In addition, they were only there for ten minutes and did not do any work. It doesn’t make sense why they would charge for an hour’s worth of work. They have since sent me another bill with an additional late fee since I refused to pay the original fee that I should not have been charged. Now, they have sent the claim to a collections agency. I will not pay them for this since no work was ever completed.
Description of Work: I contacted 3 companies for an estimate to replace or repair my air conditioning unit. Two of those companies came out and gave me estimates without a problem. There were many problems with my Carey and Walsh experience though.

After looking at reviews on Angie's List, we contact Carey and Walsh to do a routine service of our A/C unit. We had no problem scheduling a date and time, but when the day came, no one showed up in the specified window. When I called to follow up, we discovered that they had called the previous home owners number to confirm the appointment (we bought the home within the past 3 months) and the number was disconnected. They said they would try to fit me in by the end of the day only to call later in the afternoon to say they weren't going to be able to make it. I rescheduled for a few weeks later. When the second appointment came around and no one showed up in the specified window, they claimed they didn't have us on the list of appointments that day. After explaining the miscommunication with the first appointment and pressing them to fit me in that day or the next morning, they told me that they were booked and I would be inconveniencing other people if they were to squeeze me in. Needless to say, we ended up contacting another company to do the work.

We replaced our heating unit, as well as the inside section of our A/C unit - as they are sitting on top of each other. There was a problem with miscommunication of what we ordered, and we didn't realize it until AFTER the unit was installed. I realized it when I saw the final invoice, and noticed that the item listed was not the one I ordered. (who the h*** can tell one furnace from another when it is installed unless they are in the business) The person who made the mistake at Carey and Walsh, asked us not to let his manager know about the mistake because he was afraid he'd lose his job. (the unit would have had to have been removed, and then the correct one installed) Also, it was right before Christmas, and I didn't want to be the one responsible for him losing his job. So we just accepted what we got, (the price of the unit was correct, but it was NOT the unit we originally asked for, the one we wanted was more cost efficient in terms of running in the long run). As it turns out, that sales person lost his job later anyway, without any word from us on his mistakes with us. (I learned from the service guy)So other than this idiot who doesn't work there anymore, the installation and service people were excellent. The cost is about average, or a little bit above average for this area.

They are a very low-key company. They come out and do whatever it is that they are supposed to do or we ask them to do. They do it promptly and then they are no longer there. They seem to get the work done efficiently. The quality of their work is excellent. They are also very easy to have around while they're doing whatever they're doing. They just sort of come and go without having a lot of questions, answers, or instructions. They are very competent and very able. My husband and I have them on contract. Our overall experience with them has been excellent. They are a little pricey, if I remember correctly.
