Unbelievable!!! Mr. Ed Constanzo is a blessing and a joy to work with. From the moment you meet him you will immediately know he is a man of integrity, honesty, and undeniably the nicest human being you will ever meet. His qualification as a master mason with the Army Corp of Engineers is impressive, however, not one complaint in over 25yrs, an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and countless stellar customer reviews we felt this man was too good to be true. How wonderful for us he and his crew were all that was represented and more! Ed is a sincere and passionate family man who treats his crew and the homeowners like family. His caring, kindness and desire to please is unbelievable. Your job is like a symphony, his crew the orchestra, with Ed as the leader it is truly a pleasure to experience. Oscar, Wilson, Tony, and Omar are the hardest working, polite, and conscientious men we have ever had the pleasure to have at our residence. They could not do enough to insure the job was done to perfection. Ed was there 24/7 every minute many times on his hands and knees installing pavers and enjoying the experience with his wonderful crew. ED LOVES HIS PROFESSION AND IT SHOWS IN ALL HE DOES! As you watch your masterpiece progress he is always trying to exceed your expectations, which he does with pride and unequalled enthusiasm He always included my wife and I in the entire project, he couldn't have been more responsive in sharing our ideas and choices of materials. While researching our color choices, EVERY vendor and supplier could not say enough about the kindness, integrity, wonderful personality, and work ethic of Mr. Ed Constanzo. Seriously, this man is too good to be true. Then it gets better, he gives you the peace of mind of a 10 yr. guarantee with the job, unheard of from any other contractor we've received estimates from, and if you take a look at all the sagging defective driveway paver jobs in your travels you can understand how important that guarantee is! We, as ALL of Ed's customers are were overwhelmed with the completed job which surpassed our expectations. As many of the reviews stated when the job was completed it was sad that Ed had to leave as we thoroughly enjoyed the experience with him and his crew. He will however, be a personal friend who we will keep in touch with in the near future. As we have said throughout if you are fortunate enough to have Ed work at your residence, you will not only get the best job but be a better person for spending time with Mr. Ed Contanzo! Sincerely, John, & Chris Hoffman

I contacted General Brick Designs and left voicemail on a Friday evening after some due diligence on Angies List reading reviews and searching the web for design inspiration with my wife. Ed Costanzo contacted me the next day to discuss replacing our rotted wood retaining walls and brick and tie stepped walk in the front of our house that had become a source of embarrassment several years ago. We set up an appointment and Ed showed up on time and we walked the property and showed Ed the design ideas that we had found on line. My wife and are very busy people with strong opinions and we know what we want, but we have learned that when your spending large sums of money on home improvements the best decision you can make is to find the right contractor and work with them not against them. We?ve experienced both kinds of projects and I like to think we?re getting better at this. If you?re looking for a master mason, Ed is that guy. He is a talker, but that?s because he has a lot to say and after discussing our project for an hour or so he explained why some of our choices worked and why others didn?t. Having had a chance to talk for a while we allowed ourselves to become persuaded and incorporated Ed?s design suggestions, in hindsight they seem so obvious, but we?re not professional masons and we didn?t fully understand our options and definitely didn?t find these choices online. General Brick Designs is a small company, Ed has a single crew and they work one project at a time, taking great pride in the finished product. Ed and his four man crew showed up on time and went to work swiftly, completing the job in three days instead of four, but the thing about these guys is that they were really calm cool and collected. That gives me the impression that they know their business and also have a great deal of respect for each other. The work speaks for itself. The end product fits the property in ways we could have never imagined, much less have been able to describe, but if you take the time to listen to Ed I?m quite sure you will agree that he has no problem in either of those two areas.

I too hired Ed when he came for the estimate. I had some drainage issues and having them corrected was just as important as a beautiful look. Ed came with the proper equipment and was able to assess the situation immediately. He explained the problem and how to correct it. His start date and estimated finish dates were spot on. Ed also adapted to changes I made along the way and even offered suggestions, which were fabulous ideas. I felt extremely at ease dealing with Ed, he was very knowledgeable, respectful and attentive as to my vision of the project. He offered suggestions when I was uncertain .Ed was on the site every day and kept me updated from start to finish. The results are fabulous. I could not be happier. I would definitely hire him again .

From start to finish I can't imagine even one detail that could have been addressed better by Ed and his team of knowledgeable craftsmen. EVERY DAY they arrived on time, worked steadily all day, and cleaned up before they left. They were professional, courteous, and hard working. Ed was on the job EVERY DAY, ALL DAY monitoring every phase of the work. He kept me informed of details of the project and answered all of my questions in great detail. Ed and his team are real masters at what they do; their work is impeccable. My patio, walkways, and front porch were beautiful; I could not have been more pleased. But then there was a problem--a big problem! Shortly after Ed's work was completed, I hired a fencing company to install a stockade fence--and they cracked an area of concrete along my brand new walkway!!! I was devastated. I called Ed--and literally within minutes he was at my house meeting with me and the owner of the fencing company. He discussed in detail what needed to be done--AND HE SAW TO IT THAT IT WAS DONE RIGHT. (Obviously, the cracked concrete had nothing to do with the quality of Ed's work; however, his response to MY problem speaks volumes about the "quality" of his character and commitment to helping his customers.) You see, when you hire Ed Costanzo, he gives you a 10-year guarantee--and he is anxious to make good on it! Ed Costanzo is an honest person who also happens to be a very talented engineer (formerly with the Army Corps of Engineers) who cares about his customers. I have total confidence in Ed and highly recommend him without reservation. In fact, I have already discussed with him a much larger project that I want him to complete for me.
Description of Work: I contacted Ed Costanzo to come to my house to give me an estimate on replacing my extensively damaged and crumbled brick and mortar patio and walkway in the back and around the side of my house. Additionally, the front brick and mortar walkway needed repair as did the cement front porch. Ed explained in GREAT detail WHAT needed to be done, HOW it needed to be done, and WHY it needed to be done in that way. (Before Ed left, I had made up my mind that I definitely wanted him to do the work; I wanted no more estimates from other companies.) Ed and his experienced crew removed all of the brick patio as well as both walkways and the underlying cement footings. Ed redesigned the side and front walkways as well as the front porch. The entire project was beautifully completed with pavers.

I am very pleased with this company. Eddie was a pleasure to work with as was his crew. He was extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of what I needed to properly repair my leaking foundation and to add a egress window. My foundation was fixed by another company 5 years prior who did a terrible job and it leaked within months of that repair. . I was leary about this happening again and searched diligently for a company that would do a good job and stand by their work. Eddie fixed my foundation by doing it the right way footings, drilling out the crack etc. and not just a temporary expensive patch job. I would highly recommend using this company and I will use again in the future if I need any type of mason work.

Ed was referred to my wife and I by my parents who had used his services the past year. We had called him to get an estimate on a new driveway and well as backyard grading and landscaping. During our initial conversation and through the use of an infrared gun (as Ed described, similar to an MRI), he discovered a pressing issue with the foundation/footing of our house and explained that this took precedence over any aesthetic changes we had hoped to do to our yard. Despite our initial reservations, Ed worked tirelessly to come up with a plan to help support our house and preserve the future of its structural integrity. After an initial estimate of $16,000, my wife and I were unsure if we had the means to take on such a large job. However, before even knowing if we were going to accept his offer (which indicates that he really wanted to do righy by us!), Ed stayed up all night, working to devise a cheaper solution. He was able to design a system to support our house' foundation for just $4,000. We then had him work on our diveway, pavers and front stoop as originally planned for the remaining $8,000. The work was done beautifully and on time. In fact, Ed threw in a few extra enhancements (new bricks on stoop and matching bricks at end of driveway skirt) totally for free. He clearly takes pride in his work and will stop at nothing to make sure you get nothing but the best quality. We will definitely be calling Ed back in the spring to look at some other work in our back yard we want to have done. In all honestly, as a new home owner it is hard to tell when to trust someone. However, I have never met someone as genuine, honest and trustworthy as Ed. The time and pride he takes in his work is the reason for so many positive reviews here on this site. This will just add another stellar A+ job to the list. Look no further than here!

Ed the owner/engineer/master mason was wonderful, walked us through the problems and repairs needed. His staff were all just as professional, hardworking and caring about their work. We are very satisfied with the work and the 10 yr guarantee he provides- which gives us great peace of mind. Ed stays at the site while the work is done, provided a lot of support, answered questions, demonstrates genuine concern for the quality of the work and ensures that it be to his high standard. Eddie is fabulous. We had total confidence in his ability to diagnose, explain and repair our masonry problems. He is a consummate professional and his structural engineering background is invaluable. We were extremely happy with all 5 projects. His patio design was right on and his suggestion for paver color was perfect. His expert workmen were prompt, wonderful to deal with and very neat. We couldn't be happier and will surely call him for future work.

It went very well from start to finish. Ed Costanzo is very knowledgeable and I liked the fact that besides being a master stone mason, he also has a structural engineering background. This allowed him to identify that some of the stoop footing was badly in need of repair. While not initially visible, when the bricks were removed it was obvious that the underlying cement was crumbling. Anything short of repairing the underpinning would have been merely cosmetic and not lasted very long. His work is guaranteed for ten years. Ed was pleasant and professional and explained in detail the work that was being done throughout the entire process that lasted about three days. He also managed to find replacement brick for the stoop, which is no longer manufactured, that matches the existing brick on the steps exactly. I am very pleased with the finished product and would highly recommend him and his company.
Description of Work: Removed old brick and loose cement from the front stoop and steps leading up to the house. He set new bricks on the stoop and recemented the loose joints on the steps leading to the house. He also underpinned the stoop with new cement footings and tied it in to the house with NOHS steel rebar.

This was my first time using General Brick. I read all the comments on Angie's List, and then met with the Owner, Eddie, to get an idea of what options I had. Eddie took his time to explain different solutions, and gave us three ideas. He was fantastic! He and his men, were on time, professional, precise and did a fantastic job. Eddie, oversaw ever step of the process and worked with the crew! As good as I imagined the final result -- it was even better. I have been recommending General Brick to all my family and friends.

Ed gave me his undivided attention as to how he recommended doing the repairs to our side porch made of concrete and block. The porch was coming apart, the top was caving in and the sidewall was falling away. In addition, there are two piers on the porch supporting the roof which would need to be supported. There were other structural repairs necessary to this project. He explained, very clearly, in great detail how and why he created this plan. I was prepared to hire him to make the repairs until my brother became available and offered to do the repairs himself. Ed showed great confidence in his ability to make all the repairs necessary and told me how his crew of masons are well seasoned and qualified to do any work that he asks of them.

Eddie Costanza came and looked at our 60 year-old building and developed the plan to save one of our commercial buildings. It was an expensive plan but very extensive in the repairs. The firm worked long hours and through a couple of weekends to get the job done very quickly and professionally. Eddie kept in contact to let us know what was going on and what progress was being made. The tenant happened to be extremely sloppy and it took some time to work around his junk. The steel girders were sitting on brick columns that were beginning to crumble. This was then pushing out the rear wall of the building and the roof was pulling the front wall inward and cracking the block in the front of the building. Then it was discovered that one corner of the building had never been tied together and there were basically two walls meeting in a corner. Some blocks that had placed at ground level originally were now below grade and beginning to disintegrate. This was all addressed and Eddie said that this building will have no problem lasting another 60 years.

I've used General Brick Design for previous work on my house. I went back to them because of the superb work they did previously. I was just as pleased with their work this time as I was last time. Ed and his team of professionals showed up on time and left on time - every day. Ed stayed on the job site while the work was being done - every day. As the work progressed, Ed kept me informed of any new findings and/or changes to the original plan that were required. I never for a minute felt as though the work was going on without my full knowledge of what exactly was happening. The work done to repair the foundation was professionally done, and it was completed on time, as promised. Ed is proud of his work, as he should be. When his team leaves, the work is complete, it is professionally done, and the entire site is cleaned up as if they hadn't even been there.....well, except that everything that was broken before is now repaired and working properly. I highly recommend General Brick Designs to anyone and everyone. You will never regret choosing Ed and his team to do work on your home or property.

I can't say enough about how wonderful it was to do business with General Brick Designs and it's owner Ed Costanza. Ed was professional about returning calls, explaining procedures, giving suggestions and staying on schedule with project completion times, even working on Sunday (to make up for the delay caused by rain) because I had landscapers scheduled to come the next day. You could tell he was an expert at what he does. He took the time to answer questions, work out solutions to problem areas and never made you feel that he was in a hurry. On the job site everyday, he went out of his way to make sure that every aspect of the work was done to perfection and to my complete satisfaction. Matching old patio bricks was difficult, but Ed went above and beyond the call of duty and shopped around to find something that was the perfect match to the ones that they no longer make. When he finished enlarging my patio, it was beautiful beyond my expectations. He even cleaned between the old bricks of the patio to make it look brand new and make the bricks blend together and didn't charge me extra. He and his crew are truly master craftsmen. Their goal is to make every customer happy, no matter what it takes, and he does that with much attention to detail and pride in workmanship. In addition, Ed guarantees all work for ten years. NO ONE does that these days. He's so sure of the quality of the work that he can afford to do this. Ed worked with me on prices and I thought I got more than my money's worth considering the time it took, the amount of people working and the materials needed. Widening my driveway was not an easy task, but Ed figured out ways to solve a few problems I had, and it turned out looking spectacular with a perfectly inlaid sunburst pattern of pavers in the middle, and Belgium block edging all around. The walkway was equally gorgeous. Ed also helped me design a platform for my new 12x12 gazebo that was both aesthetically pleasing and functional, and I can't tell you how elated I am with the way it looks. Ed's crew cleaned up meticulously everyday, and were careful about not disturbing landscaping, edgings and other things in the yard. They started on time each day and worked nonstop throughout the day whether he was there watching or not. The difficult octagon gazebo platform was engineered to dead on measurements and was built completely level in a very sloping and challenging wooded area. I can't believe how perfect it looks with all of the pavers set in cement and guaranteed not to budge under the weight of an 800 pound gazebo. When the job was finished, Ed's crew cleaned up every scrap of cement and masonry and made the place look even nicer than it looked when they first started the job. Ed even had his crew repair some rotting wood around my foundation with cement, when he noticed that it needed fixing during the installation of the walkway and didn't charge me. He helped me find an electrician and some blacktop people to hang my gazebo fan and level the roadway at the edge of the driveway. In conversation, I mentioned that the gazebo was to be screened and lamented to Ed that the screen kit was too big to fit in my car. Ed, the kind person that he is, volunteered to help me out, and pick it up for me. I was shocked and couldn't believe my ears. Who does that these days? In closing, I'd like to say that you will not be disappointed with the results of any job, big or small, that you contract Ed Costanza and General Brick Designs to do for you. I would highly recommend General Brick Designs for any masonry you need done. You won't be disappointed, and will be as thoroughly delighted with the results as I was.

If you want top quality work done on your home by a true professional, I highly recommend you contact General Brick Design. Ed's previous work and training with the Army Corps of Engineers shows in his work ethic, his honesty and his discipline. The job at my home took 3 days. Ed and his top notch team arrived each day on time and worked until late afternoon. Ed never left the site - he monitored the work personally all day long. Each evening when the team went home for the night, the exterior of my home was in spotless condition. And when the work was completed, the grounds and yard of my home were immaculate. I can't speak highly enough of Ed and his team (and he himself will tell you how heavily he relies on his team of talented workers). They are professionals in the highest sense of the word. I recommend him to everyone and anyone who needs work done on their home. I can guarantee you won't be disappointed in the quality of the work.

I joined Angie's List about a year ago but only recently had the opportunity to use one of your recommended services. Finding Ed Costanza of General Brick Design was worth every penny of my membership fee and then some. We've lived in our house for 26 years and have used different services for various home improvement projects. I can honestly say no one has come near to the caliber of Ed and his crew. In fact Ed was the first and only contractor I called for our driveway renovation and I knew upon meeting him that I need look no further. Ed returned my calls promptly, he arrived on time, if not a little early, for our appointments and demonstrated tremendous enthusiasm and knowledge for his work. Ed's engineering skills are evident in the superb design and functionality of the driveway. His crew are master craftsman, polite, neat, diligent hard workers. Ed's aesthetic skills have given our home beautiful curb appeal. Ed was always present on the job, fastidious with keeping me informed of all the details of the process and most importantly worked with my husband and I to keep within our budget. I cannot complete this review without noting that when our budget was stretched to the max and we were forced to choose a less expensive stone for the driveway retaining wall , Ed graciously insisted that we use the better material at his expense to keep the picture perfect look.Where in this day and age do you find someone with the honesty, integrity and generous consideration like Ed? From start to finish it was a pleasure dealing with General Brick Design. Our home is the most charming one on the block and neighbors stop by to compliment us on the new driveway. Kudos to Ed and crew, we are most grateful!
Description of Work: The long driveway was completely dug up and widened.Railroad ties and huge petrified wood tree stump and roots were removed to allow for more curvature to the driveway. Pavers and a brick apron were installed . A retaining broken cement wall along the driveway and alcove of the driveway were removed and replaced by tumbled cement pilers.Brick stairs leading to the front and back of the house were repaired and replaced. A beautifully designed bluestone landing was created for the front steps. Additional minor repairs to a fireplace hearth and brick foundation in the patio were fixed.

From start to finish Ed and his guys were great. I am a contractor and have been dealing with contractors for over 15 years, and Ed is one of the best I have had the pleasure of working with. I am used to contractors especially masons promising the world and never delivering. Ed was a delight to work with, the job took 7 days from start to completion. Ed and his guys worked on my job the entire week, they did not start my job and leave to start another job like most masons do, they concentrated on my job and were dedicated to completing under the deadline. They arrived on time everyday and worked tediously all day long. Ed was on the job everyday and really takes his work seriously. Ed was a little more expensive then the competition but it is well worth the extra money. You definitely get what you pay for with Ed. I felt completely confident in Eds crew and his knowledge. I would highly recommend this company to everyone. I had decided to go with Ed because of his Angie's list reviews and they were right on the money. I can't say enough about this company!! GREAT FROM START TO FINISH!!!!!! THANKS ED!!!

Finding a contractor with a heart is a rare thing, but finding one with a heart the size of Eddie's is just unthinkable. If you are looking for a contractor that actually cares about each and every job than look no further. I had a few cracks through the Brick Veneer outside the Family Room of a house I bought only 6 months ago. The home inspector told me that they were non-structural, but after months of watching all the seams on the drywall crack I knew something was up. I found General Brick Design on Angie's List and I thought I won the lottery. A Master Mason but also a Structural Engineer who was trained in the Army Corp of Engineers, sounded like the guy I needed. Eddie (owner) responded to my voicemail almost immediately and even came out to see me that very day. He brought a special tool (which he called an MRI for your house) so he could see exactly what was going on. Well, it turns out that the family room (which is an addition to the original house), did not have any footings and was sinking. If you look at the pictures I have included you will see that it was a serious structural issue!! Prior to and throughout the week long Job, Eddie kept in full contact and explained everything to me. He and his crew were always on time and very polite. Eddie truly is a pleasure to talk to and type of guy you can trust around your house. After digging down and finding a few unexpected problems, Eddie promised he would fix them and the price he quoted to me never changed!! He will go above and beyond to make sure your house is secure. Eddie will definitely be getting more work from me and I highly recommend him. Someone else here on Angie List called Eddie "their personal Mike Holmes", well I can attest to the fact that in my situation, Eddie came and made it right!!
