Mario was nice and pleasent to deal with. His price was reasonable. However, there were issues right from the start. He didnt have the correct equipment to break up and remove the existing patio. That delayed the project while the equipment was secured. Shortly after the start of the job, he apparently had a back injury and the job was delayed another 2 weeks. I found this out when I called him after he said he'd be at the job. I had to call him, he didnt call me. It was common that I had to call him to find out when he'd be at the job, when the cement would be poured, when the cement would be sealed. The cement was poured and the concrete was stamped, then there was a black powder applied to the cement. The black powder ended up all over our siding. It did not come off even after Mario power washed it. The entire area needed to be repainted by me. The first coat of clear sealer did not adhere properly and had to be redone. Over this winter the clear sealer pealed off leaving the cement unprotected. Again I contacted Mario and he said he would come and reseal it within the week. That was 3 weeks ago. I have engaged another mason to seal the patio. That mason outlined a number of concerns regarding the job and that the entire new slab is likely to crack. I am now considering legal action against Mario.

The outcome was beautiful and exactly what I wanted. He's a talented mason but I believe he is understaffed. With some help, he could really apply himself.

Mario came on time to give the estimate. He was slightly below what others would charge. I didn't have anything fancy done, just a front porch a couple different levels. At times he did come late in the morning. He was always friendly, polite and always willing to listen to my ideas. I didn't realize how quickly one has to work once the cement is poured. Because Mario was the only one working I was a bit concerned our porch would not come out as well as we had hoped. Mario worked fast and very hard to make certain all looked good before the cement hardened. All in all the porch looks wonderful and I will definitely recommended him to others and use him in the future if needed.
Description of Work: Mario gave a lot of helpful advice on what could be done to create a front porch that was usable, safe and easy for all to get in and out of the house. Mario worked very h****** our front porch.

After 30 years (in this house) built in 1877, water in basement , from failure of previous dirt walls in root cellar, (previous shoring up failed), Hired contractor after interviewing 4 contractors from Angie's list . Per his contract he would install new beam to support floor and install a drain tile besides what he said he would do in previous section. He did neither. He started around November 1st and finished in the middle of December. There were many days he did not show up, He always had an excuse. He did not return phone calls. He finally finished in December, but by then the ground was frozen and we could not put dirt back along the foundation or replant plants that had to be moved for the project. Spring came and the rain and water and mud were washing into the basement along the reconstructed wall and excavation site. We began calling him in April. He was scheduled to come on the 21st. Called and said he would be there on the 22nd. No show. Called on the 22nd, 24th, 26th, 28th, 29th and left messages. On the 30th it rained and I sent him a photo of the flooded basement. He called right back and said he would come on May 10th. Called on the 9th, left message and said he could not come at previously agreed on time. I called him and left a message that we would not be home later. He did not call back. I left him messages on May 13th and 16th. He answered the phone (1st time ever). Said he would come on the 17th . He did. in the meantime we had an engineer inspection of the area. We needed to address drainage issues but his critique of the contractor's work that was done poorly was support columns and bracing of the floor. He also said he would put in a drain tile if necessary. On the 17th we asked him to fix the problems that the inspector had noted, support and drain tile. The supports were not consistent with acceptable building standard, were designed to be temporary, were not properly supported. Workmanship was shoddy. He said he would be back on the 27th. Called on the 21st and said he had an appointment and would come after lunch on the 27th. On the 27th, no show. I called and left message.called on the 28th. I asked him to respond by the 29th or we would take further action. Called on the 29th and left message. called on June 1st and left message. On the 2nd it rained and again i sent a photo of the flooded basement. he texted back and said, "You'll have to call an engineer because i am not qualified. Your house is in a flood zone (it is not) and was build on sand. There's nothing i can do beyond what i have done".
Description of Work: Excavated area of foundation under kitchen, removed dirt under sections of original foundation, poured footers, laid block ,added additional piers (not to standard), new concrete floor.

This is our Second Concrete Patio that Mario created for us, due to the fact that the first patio did not turn out as well as we had hoped it would. Mario new were not pleased with how the patio turned out, and he was very concerned with doing a good job for us, so after talking things over with him, we all decided to pour another patio near the previous one, but no changes were made to the first patio. After several rain delays the second patio was created and looks really good. It meets all our needs and expectations. We were very impressed with Mario's' willingness to complete a second patio for us after the first one did not satisfy our needs. I would also like to add that delays are part of the contracting business please be patient and know that your contractor is doing the best he can to get the job done as quickly as possible for you. Mario was very considerate, and polite throughout the job, he called us often and made sure we knew what was causing the delays. We are very happy with the 2nd patio. Mario did a wonderful job and we hope to see him next year to install concrete sidewalks around our home. Thank you Mario, this was a job well done, and I know we will enjoy many summer parties on that patio, with all our friends and family.

I want to start by saying Mario is a nice person. He is very polite and made every effort to do a good job, however the best of intentions from a nice person, cannot replace skill and expertise. I am so sorry to say that our patio is not usable in the manner in which it was intended. The patio has too great of a slope, now I cannot put a table on it anywhere without shims. We wanted some slope, it was necessary to keep water away from the house, but the slope has caused a situation where all tables and chairs visibly sit crooked on the surface. I realized a few days prior to the stone prep work, that Mario was " in over his head". I wished I had thought of hiring a landscape architect first, then I wouldn't be writing a negative review. I think I really needed an expert in their field for this patio, it was more complicated than just pouring a concrete slab. I blame myself first for not realizing the difficulty in this job and then I also must say that I wish Mario had realized this job was not at his skill level.

Mario proposed a bid and even wrote on the emails that he was eager to do this job and get started right away. Within a day or two it was evident that he had no idea what he was doing. We had to help him with measuring, laying out, digging and even with us doing the measuring he still managed to screw it up. It tooks 3 weeks just to get the foundations up and they are all out of square. Many times he just sat in his car. Mario didn't show up many days or showed up very late and only worked for a few hours. He called or texted with many different excuses as to why he wasn't working. In the end he blamed it on the weather but there were many days when it was clear to work and he never showed. It became clear to us and he didn't know what he was doing and was in over his head. When approached about this he admitted he was in over his head and didn't know what to do. This guy is totally incompetent as a bricklayer and we warn you not to use him. We are now left with a mess of an unfinished project, several thousands of dollars lost plus materials that we paid for which may be no good as his work is so bad it may all have to be torn down. This guy is a disaster!

He did a beautiful job. He stopped one day and gave me some references. We went and looked at his work and thought he did a good job. He was a good worker. I think he is kind of a gypsy mason guy. He'll do anything but he doesn't have an actual stone and mortar business, I think he just works out of his house. He has also done our 3 bay garage floor for us. My experience has been very good. He is responsive and he does exactly what he tells you he is going to do. When he is finished it is exactly how he describes it. Sometimes, in construction, especially when you are dealing with concrete, these guys get a little sloppy, a little messy. He ended up producing exactly what he described. Both my wife and I talked to him about it because it's a driveway, it's the entry to your house and you don't want some piece of junk when they get through. I've seen some pretty poor concrete work over the years. So far, it is also very stable, it hasn't broken up or cracked. He put the stress cracks in the right place. He's very good at what he does. He is a little bit slow getting back to you from when he quotes. When he's on the job he's fast, so I don't want to give him a rating that looks bad. When you are trying to get him to do the job, he is kind of slow in that area. He will tell you a date and something will happen and he'll call you. But when he is here, when he is committed he is very fast and he is very responsive.
Description of Work: We used Mario Pompeo to put a concrete driveway put in and a garage floor, it's stamped concrete. He put it in last year. It is a huge driveway and it is all stamped and colored.

Mario was very professional and his pricing was very competitive. He always responded to my phone calls in a timely manner. It did take a little while to get the job scheduled and to complete it once he started but I told him I was not in any rush. I'm very happy with the sidewalk, it looks great.
Description of Work: Removed old concrete sidewalk and replaced with a new sidewalk of pavers. He made the new sidewalk a bit wider as I requested and had to use a saw to cut out part of the asphalt driveway to make room. He also patched a separate part of existing driveway with asphalt patch.

Very pleased with Mario and his work! He was responsive to our questions and made useful suggestions which helped us and (and him) complete the project successfully. He was on the job when he said he was going to be there, and on the phone to us when rain or other jobs prevented. The whole project from contact, meeting through completion took about a month. He left the job site clean on completion. We have no reservations about recommending him. We love our new front steps and walkway!

, Mario is easy to work with and we found him to be totally honest. He does work alone a great deal, so work can progress in a slow, methodical way. I called it 'old world'. The jobs did take longer than estimated but I was not bothered by that. I'm more that happy with the result and have another job lined up with Mario.
Description of Work: Our house was built in the 1840s with the foundation walls built from cobblestones. They, along with a supporting interior wall, have been crumbling and deteriorating from the day we bought the house almost 25 years ago. Additionally, the floor was breaking up showing dirt underneath and the storm cellar steps were not in good shape. We accepted Mario's proposal to dismantle the cobbled interior wall and install two long steel beams supported by steel columns. He also mortared the entire exterior foundation walls and then faced that with two additional layers of mortar. After digging and installing the footings for the columns, he repaired the floors with mortar and topping. Finally, the steps leading out to the back were reconfigured and poured, greatly improving access.

Considering the potential for making a giant mess, it was done as cleanly as possible. Basement is mostly finished with carpets. Peeled back the carpet and worked around it. All in all a very good job. 5 months later, the wall is still completely intact. One might expect some cracks but so far, so good. Mario is an excellent craftsman.

Our son bought a 112 year old home where the basement had crumbled wall stone that was seeping. Every time you stepped your foot down floor, it felt as if there were many separate levels. He smoothed and rebuilt the floor and it is not in perfect condition. We also hired him to remove the back patio where we are putting an extension on our home. He took the flagstones out where we are building a new walkway. He took the flagstone from the back and rebuilt the 1940’s 3-foot walkway into a 5-foot walkway. He came back to make sure everything was level and finished up to par. He did a very beautiful job and now two people are able to walk on the sidewalk side by side each other. Of all the estimates I received, he was extremely reasonably priced. We are very happy with his services and are hiring him again in the near future.
