He came over promptly to provide an estimate. Gave a written estimate of exactly what would be done. We hired him and they installed it this past Thursday. I had this done at my mother's house for her. My husband was there while they did it. He felt they did an excellent job. They did everything they said they would. They did an exceptional job. We wanted everything replaced from soup to nuts! They varnished it as we requested. We didn't want to have to do that ourselves. We liked that they did it all! Great job!
Description of Work: Remove entire bannister from basement and installed a brand new one.

I'm finding it hard to rate Golden Oak Railing. In terms of the quality of the material they used, I think the railing is lovely and would rate it an A. I was also happy with the initial consultation in which Mr. Collado answered so many of my questions and then, I should add, that Golden Oak was the only railing company I contacted that didn't have a problem with giving me ALL metal posts. Two other companies I contacted (not on Angie's List) told me that the posts at the bottom and top of the stairs had to be wood. Since the reason for my getting a new railing was that my cat liked to and quot;customizeand quot; the railings with his claws, it made no sense to have ANY wood posts. I was given a fair price and a set installation date, which was adhered to by the provider. The installation crew was polite and professional. Installation did take two days instead of the one day mentioned when I signed the contract, but that was not an issue for me. However, after the installers left I noticed that the two first rails (the ones you see most when you are seated in the living room facing the bannister, appeared crooked to the eye. I wondered if it could be an optical illusion but, eventually, two other people agreed with me that they appeared to be closer together at the bottom than at the top and I, in fact, measured a 1/2and quot; difference. I didn't call Golden Oak Railing back right away because immediately after they left I had another crew come paint and wallpaper the staircase and they had enclosed the railing with plastic sheeting. But I did call about a week and a half ago and explained my concerns, asking that Mr. Collado pls. come by and take a look. I have not heard back from Golden Oak Railing yet. I frankly don't know what they can do now that the posts are so embedded in the staircase, but I'm disappointed that they have failed to come check out my complaint. I am also less than 100% impressed with the spackling that was required when they changed the supporting brackets for the handrail against the wall, but don't know if this haphazard job owed to their knowing that I was having the painters come and that they would smooth out the walls. Well, after another attempt to get Golden Oak Railing to fix the crooked main post on my staircase, Mr. Collado (the owner) came by and acknowledged the problem. He reordered the post that would need to be cut out and properly reinserted and today (Nov. 28th) the crew came to do the work. Mr. Collado had mentioned he had tried to get in touch with me after my first call (but caller i.d. on my phone will refute that). Be it as it may, I'm glad the company has responded to my complaint. Fixing the problem was pretty complicated because those posts are really inserted deep into the staircase. There was some inevitable damage to the stairs, which the crew did do their best to fix. Some further touch-up is needed and I will tackle (mostly respackling and more paint touch-up) but at least the post is now level. So, while I commend Golden Oak for responding and sending ingenious repairmen to fix the problem, I will not be posting a change in grade because of the amount of time it took to get to today's repair. But I would not withhold a recommendation of Golden Oak Railings.

Golden Oak did an excellent job and the 20+ years of experience shows in the their work. During the job the owner recommended a slight change in the design of the railing. This design change would result in additional cost but the owner did not charge me extra. He just wanted me to be happy with the job so I could recommend him to other clients. I highly recommend Golden Oak and would use them again for any future projects.
Description of Work: Golden Oak removed the old iron railings from our main staircase and replaced them with wood railings. We also had them remove the carpeting and re-finish the hardwood stairs. They performed the work in a timely manner and did an excellent job.
