Lou was prompt in keeping his appointment. He took all the necessary measurements and prepared the plans. He was upfront about how he works and his fees. Half of the payment was due at the start and the second half after approval by the Town. He would work with the Town as necessary to complete the plans to their satisfaction. The only thing that I was not aware of when we began the job was that he would be taking time off (summer vacation) and as a consequence it took longer than I expected to finish and submit the plans. On the other hand I was pleasantly surprised when the town approved the plans quite quickly and they did not require any changes.

He came to my property to assess the damage and give me an engineering report, and to review work that was done by another contractor. He had a reasonable price. He was really good—I’ve already recommended him to my neighbor!

So I was caught in a bind. My project was stopped by the village since my contractors were working without a permit. Not knowing where else to go, I looked on Angie's list and found Lou at Tiderunner Engineering. I explained to him my situation, and he was very understanding as I told him we had an architect that for some reason just stopped returning our calls, etc, and that I needed a set of floor plans to get the permit. He came over the next day, and did a set of floor plans, with some structural changes as we knocked down a wall, and also was looking to adjust the beam structure in the kitchen. Lou suggested using LVL headers, both flush and drop headers to support the structure of the house and prevent sagging. If it wasn't for Lou, my contractors would have just left the work they were doing without the proper support, so thanks Lou! After it was submitted, the building inspector, came back with a bunch of changes, and Lou explained to me that she was looking for a full set of construction plans. This took me by surprise, but Lou was very accommodating. He made the changes per the inspectors request, and the plans were finally approved and I could have my house renovated. Yaay! If it wasn't for Lou, I don't know if another architect would have been as accommodating and have the same attention to detail that Lou did. In addition to this work, we were looking to redo our driveway, and he was able to create a set of driveway plans, including structural support, drywells, piping, all in accordance to our village code. We plan on undertaking that project in the next few months but I'm happy with how the plans came out, and look forward to the finished result.

Excellent! Lou came to my home, on time, and shared his knowledge and information with myself and my experienced contractors. He advised us on how to repair and reenforce certain areas of the house to code. He emailed me a detailed report containing all his observations and advice on how to proceed a few hours after he finished. My carpenter and I were very impressed with Lou's knowledge and willingness to share his insights with us. He is honest, reliable, and well informed. Do yourself a favor and give Lou a call if you need a structural engineer or inspection.

Lou gave us advice and suggestions on how to deal with the issue and took his time to explain things. He also came back a week later (the date of this report) when we had additional questions and did not charge us for the return visit. Lou was professional and prompt. His manner was calm and reassuring. We recommend him.

Very professional. Lou answered my email quickly. We found a date for him to come out for an estimate and we had our preliminary plans within a week. Very quick and professional turn around.
