D R Whitney Jr Contracting

This is the worst company I have ever hired. They charged me $2,250 for 3 hours of work by three people. They wanted more money for what was another hour of work. I told them that I would not pay anymore at that point. I had to hire someone else to to the work and they were 100% better. For about the same price they did 10 times the amount of work. I have worked with many contractors and D R Whitney is by far the worst I have worked with. Maybe they felt that because my wife and I are older Americans that they could take advantage of us.

The contractor did an excellent job.

Doug was efficient, courteous, professional and reasonably priced. Excellent work. Very pleased.

Definitely would use him again, very pleasant, patient with all of my questions and returned my phone calls (something many other contractors in the past I have used did not do).

Estimate was prohibitively high.

They did everything as was on the contract. Started on time and were very clean and neat and friendly.

It went fine, We had several very wet days, which delayed things from drying. Very professional, cleaned up good after themselves every night. My cellar walls were a mess, what a difference. One wet wall, they fixed outdoors, I paid extra 650.00 for this. I already had a sump pump, they put a new hose on it so it would drain further from the house.. Was very pleased.

The work they did was okay, but for the amount of work I thought it was too costly. From now on I will shop around.

He is extremely punctual and he wanted me to go through the whole thing. He was very impressive. His quote was reasonable priced. He is very knowledgable. I had three quotes and he is the guy whom I trusted the most and who I thought had the most knowledge. And I think he is a really good guy and extremely professional. He came exactly on time. He wrote the quote down on a piece of paper - everything broken down and he actually called me to follow up to see whether we wanted to accept the bid. I was impressed with that - he followed up himself. We asked him to go back to the beginning and change the whole idea of doing the minimum amount of work to get us through the winter. And he was really happy to do that. He was happy to tell us how we could do that. That was also exceptionally nice of him.

They spent a few weeks repairing and replacing cement pylons and stabilizing everything including ao original flagstone fireplace. By the time they finished we were more than ready to see them go. The owner (senior) was talkative and the project seemed to be dragging along. Right after they left we noticed that an antique plow and well pump (outside) were broken and an original farm bin from inside was missing. We were not happy. But, to be fair, we recently had another company [which we completely trust] out to look at other repairs and asked them to check the foundation and they were very impressed with what Whitney had done for the foundation. They reported that everything was solid and there was no evidence of shifting. The only thing they could improve upon would be to add steel angle brackets to the pylons for a little extra insurance.

I am satisfied with their work. I give them an "A" overall.
