J F WILCOX CONSTRUCTION

In the fall of 2010 JF Wilcox poured a stamped concrete overlay around our pool. It looked great but when we opened the pool the following spring (May 2011) it was cracked and peeling up in large chunks. After many phone calls he finally came back to our house and repaired the sections that were peeling. We weren't happy with the repairs because the parts that were repaired ended up being a lighter shade than the existing work. We figured we would live with it and just be happy it wasn't peeling. The next spring (May 2012) comes around and we open our pool and here we go again. Now other sections are cracked and peeling. So we start calling him again, although now he doesn't answer our calls and doesn't respond to our voicemails. We continue calling him all summer with no luck. Finally, we get ahold of him (i believe it's Sept by this time), so he sends someone out to take a look. He agrees there's a problem, and we're told he will be back next week to fix it. Of course, nobody ever shows up. After numerous more phone calls and voicemails we decided we aren't going to get anywhere. So, bottom line is, we would never use JF Wilcox again. It was an awful experience, he doesn't stand behind his work and any business that won't return your phone calls is very unprofessional.

J F Wilcox Construction did an excellent job on the sidewalk. They did a terrible job on the garage floor and they wouldn't do anything about it afterwards. I'd say to avoid them. When they were doing the work they were punctual.

This was a very challenging job due to the condition of the pre-existing concrete (not level, old, small cracks). Jim and his brother gave the problem a lot of thought, came up with several good ideas, and recommended the best approach, showing good analysis, breadth of experience, creativity, and good interaction. Although more expensive that I had hoped, I found it was competitive with two other estimates we got (one somewhat higher and one a little lower). We chose JF Wilcox because we felt they had the best approach and lots of experience. The work was done on time in a very professional manner. I had the opportunity to watch part of it and they did a great job under the time constraint of the concrete hardening. This could have been a very disruptive project, but they took care to reassemble the old fence sections that they took down for access, level out the cement mixer truck impressions in the yard, and explain what they were doing and why. We were concerned about the shading coming out right but they did just what we asked for and we were very pleased. I would highly recommend them and definitely use them again if another need developed.
