Dave came a few hours late, but worked fast. He seems to have done good work--it's sort of hard to tell with wiring since it's mostly invisible--and charged a big chunk of money for the job, which took well under a day. He used fixtures that he brought with him, of a style he uses very often--nothing unusual or hard to get. He was missing one facia and liner from one recessed light fixture, over the staircase, so the 75W floodlight bulb was left dangling there like a big eyeball popped four inches out of the ceiling. "I'll be back tomorrow or the next day with the piece", he said. It was a standard fixture of his, and he came recommended by our builder, whom we trust, so we paid him and off he went. Never to be seen again by mortal flesh. Since then, over a period of five months, we have talked with him on the phone, left messages, sent text messages with driving directions, texted him pictures of the floodlight still dangling there. We've received promises and made appointments, but he never came back. So we eventually gave up. This is really a stupid problem to have brought us to this point--it's far from subtle, and fixing it would take him fifteen minutes at most. Dave is a smooth and presentable fellow, apart from bragging fairly steadily as he goes along (which isn't that uncommon). He indeed seems to be a skilled electrician, and works quickly and neatly, but we'll never use him again for anything, because he refused to finish the job after being paid in full. If you decide to use him, get a firm fixed price and don't pay him until the job is completely, and I mean _completely_ finished, and has passed inspection. And Dave, if you're reading this, the bulb is still there, hanging from the wires.

Dave was very professional and in addition to performng the work he was hired to do, he referred me to a painter that I used and who was wonderful. Dave offered advice, both on my electrical needs and on contractors who met my other needs.
