I spoke with Don, who told me that Star Roofing does not provide estimates. In glancing at other posts here, it seems that some people have secured estimates from Star Roofing, so I don't know what to make of the whole thing. Was I supposed to say, "Okay, just do whatever and let me know whether it's $500 or $5,000 when you're all done?" He did quote me a per-hour labor cost, but he didn't want to get into any specifics as to how many hours the project might take or how much materials might cost. Meanwhile, another roofer that I had called came over and gave me a full estimate for materials and labor, no big deal. It was a very odd experience with Star Roofing and I do not plan to consider them and their bizarre "no estimates" policy for any future projects.

"F" for Non-existent Follow-up! I couldn't even get an estimate out of them after they came to my home and inspected my roof. Synopsis: 09/13/10 (Monday): Spoke w/ receptionist about requesting a quote for an entire roof replacement. They'll get back to me "in a few days." One Week - No Reply from Star 09/20/10 (Monday): I called again. Said I had been waiting for an estimate. Transferred to Jim. We scheduled home visit for 09/22/10 at 7:30am. 09/22/10: (Wednesday) Will arrived promptly and inspected my roof. I asked when I could expect an estimate. He said "the beginning of next week." Week of 09/27/10 - No Reply from Star 10/01/10 (Friday): I called and left a voice mail. Explained that my roof was looked at 10 days ago and I still hadn't received an estimate. I requested a call back. Jim left a voice mail a couple hours later apologizing if they had "forgotten about me." Will was still on the road and they would "get back to me." Eleven Days Later - No Reply from Star Apparently, business must be good and Star has more than enough customers. In the meantime, however, the days are getting shorter and my roof is deteriorating. I would have appreciated an upfront "we're not interested in replacing your roof" rather than the total lack of courtesy in ignoring repeated requests for callbacks. It should also be noted that I identified myself as a member of "Angie's List" at the beginning of each contact with Star, in the false hope that perhaps I would be treated as a valued potential customer.

Star was very professional, well organized. They did careful work without rushing. They cleaned up after themselves.

They stuck to their estimate and sent good workmen. They also followed up on any questions or problems that I had. They did the job very efficiently and were fairly priced too.

Called company to request a quote on a full roof replacement. Individual went too my house & took measurements and mailed a quote for the replacement to me. The quote was extensive and provided all of the required information, however it was a good $3,000 more expensive than the contractor I ended up using for similar quality shingles.

This is a great company to work with! My phone call to obtain an estimate was returned promptly and the estimate was done shortly thereafter. It was windy and cold on the day the work was done, but the guys were terrific!! They were friendly and professional and definitely knew their stuff. They were also very neat and clean. The work was done as promised at the price quoted. I am completely satisfied and would recommend Star to anyone in need of roof work (slate or otherwise). I will definitely use them in the future.

Provided a very detailed and accurate estimate. Removed and replaced the roof in two days. Cleaned up everything. Very happy with work.

Had another contractor come out and learned that roof repairs not needed. Leak could be stopped with an electric cable installation. Can be done by any handyman. I called Star back and canceled work order. Don was courteous and referred me to a gutter contractor that would do the work.

Everything was done according to schedule despite some inclement weather before and even during the job. It was started and completed within a few days, and when the workers noted potential for some water damage around two of the windows, the company notified me and fixed the problem by installing sill metal to the areas. The additional cost was minimal($250). All telephone calls were promptly returned, and all those I spoke to were polite and respectful.

While the quality and price of the repair work and the new rubberized flat roof was good, I would not use this company again because their customer service regarding potential additional work, where they stood to make a decent profit was terrible.

The experience was good. They were on time and they did what they said they would do and they stayed close to their estimate. They said they would do the job right away and they did it right away. So far there has been no leaking after the job.

This company was quick and did a great job. They were priced reasonable. They were very easy to speak with and setting up the appointment also easy enough. The quoted price is the one that they stuck with. While the worker were out they stayed professional and clean. I would use this company again in the future.

When purchasing a new home during inspection it was noted the roof needed to be replaced. Our relator called Star and they came the next day with and gave us an estimate in time to ask for the new roof before we closed on the house. We then schedule them to do the work and they were prompt and did a great job.

Star Roofing was a pleasure to work with. They came and gave me an estimate for the work I needed done and even though they were not the least expensive there manner and professionalism made me select them. They contacted me to set up the work schedule and touched base with me twice before the work was scheduled to start. They appeared on the day and time they said they would and began work immediately. Unfortunately for me a number of problems arose as they were replacing the 20 year old roofs but notified me immediately and discussed the best course of action and the costs for each of the change orders. I am totally satisfied with the outcome of the job and would commend each of Star Roofing employees, from the laborers and foremen who were on the site to the office manager, for their helpfulness and courtesy during the project. Upon completion of the project the cleanup and removal of the construction debris was astonishing to me. I honestly feel the grounds are in better shape now then they were when they started. I would not hesitate to highly recommend this firm to anyone looking to have their roof replaced.

We have a Victorian house in Hudson NY. I started out looking for someone to fix an ongoing leak near a chimney. The Star Roofing representative that I started out with, Dennis Andreas, was very kind when he explained the overall poor condition of my roof. I had had trouble finding someone to come out to Hudson and give me a professionally written estimate! The estimated start date was only 1 week off from when they actually started, due to complications at a prior job. The crew that did the work at the house were very professional: they showed up early, covered all bushes near the house to protect them, and cleaned up everyday before leaving. Any questions that came up were addressed to me on a very timely basis. There is one section of the gutter lining that they will need to return to finish - but that is because the I need to repair some woodwork first.

THEY CAUSED A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE GUTTERS. THEY TRIED TO PUT THEM ON DURING BAD WEATHER AND IT TOOK LONGER FOR THEM TO DO IT BECAUSE OF THAT. THE ALSO DAMAGED GUTTERS IN THEIR HASTE TO PUT THEM ON, BUT THEY ARE GOING TO BE FIXING THE GUTTERS THAT WERE DAMAGED, SO I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM.

THEY ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL. WHEN I LOOKED OUTSIDE THEY WERE ALWAYS WORKING. THEY WERE POLITE WHEN THEY SPOKE TO ME. THEY CLEANED UP EVERYDAY. IT TOOK TWO DAYS TO DO THE ROOF. IT SEEMED LIKE THEY DID QUALITY WORK AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY. THEY WERE A LITTLE HIGHER THAN THE OTHER ESTIMATES BUT THEY CAME RECOMMENDED AND MY HUSBAND HAD SEEN THEIR WORK SO WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE THE BETTER PEOPLE TO GO WITH.

WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THIS COMPANY. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANY COMPLAINTS. THEY CAME AND DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO AND THEY DID IT WHEN THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO IT. WE LIKE THE WAY THE ROOF LOOKS, IT LOOKS GOOD.
