The estimate was fair though a little more expensive than others. The work was done on time and with great care. Brian was competent, friendly, and easy to work with. The bathroom looks splendid. The cost may be a little more, but the work can't be beat.

I was disappointed with them. They guy came in didn’t take one measurement and gave me a quote of $40 000 for the bathroom. I did more research and I found out that the way they work is that the person that come out to do the estimate gets commission on the difference that it costs them to do the job and the quote they gave me. He was very timely in getting back to me and the scheduling was fantastic. It was like a contract he wrote that day.

Response from Bennett Contracting Inc
[Member Name Removed]’s comments are thoughtful and appreciated. I am responding to correct a two items of fact. 1. It is common for our estimators to provide customers with a budget amount and a sample work write up on a first visit; in this case a $40,000 budget for remodeling two (2) bathrooms and moving a wall. Projects of this size require a lot of time before we can arrive at a final contract amount, and a final custom work order. 2. Our estimators are paid by salary only, no commission. They participate, along with all of our management team and lead carpenters, in a Company profit sharing plan. Greg Jackson, President, Bennett Contracting, Inc.

We had siding done in 2013 and that was done by Bennett. It was spring time around May. I think it was about $12000. I would absolutely use them again.

After getting quotes from a couple of the "Window installer" companies we were fortunate to find Bennett Contracting Inc via Angie's List. Rather than give a simple price quote for good, better or best windows, Bennett provided us with a choice of window brands plus an estimate for the installation. I am a do-it-yourselfer and thought the "window installer" quotes were way too high considering that we have a one story ranch style home with most of the windows being the same size so only a step ladder was needed. In short for pros, a straight forward job. Bennett's estimate beat the others and was clearly more down to earth. Everyone along the way was professional and not only answered questions but had some good ideas that we followed. The time frame was just as they stated and the work began within a week of the windows arrival at their shop. Bennett uses their own staff do perform the work. The two professionals that did the job were friendly, on time and did absolutely fantastic work! The way the windows were trimmed outside exceeded my expectations as they created a window sill that was a improvement to the overall look of the house. I can recommend Bennett without hesitation. As further appreciation for the excellent work done we are also leaving their lawn sign up for two weeks since the job completion!

I called Bennett to get an estimate on repairing my porch support. The receptionist took my information and a short while later David called me back and was able to come to my house that day to do the estimate. David was very professional and straight forward with me about what needed to be done and how much it would cost. A few days later David called and set up an appointment to do the work. The day of the appointment David was punctual and did an outstanding job of the repair. Bennett works by the hour and he was done in less time than his estimate. When he left he said "No job is to small for Bennett" which is really good to know. I highly recommend Bennett.

Materials were exactly as promised. The finished job is outstanding. The entire process (estimating, measurement, communication and installation) was conducted professionally throughout. The timeframes were accurate. Each day, the job foreman communicated a status and an expected scope of work for the next day. Phone calls and emails were returned promptly. The job site was left in as good or better condition as it was found each day...yes, seriously. We expected way more disruption than we experienced. I considered rating the price a "B" as this was not the lowest bid. But I tend to be a "you get what you pay for" kind of person for most purchases. We are completely happy with the finished product. It was worth every penny. A great experience! Bennet will be the first phone call for future projects.

We absolutely loved Bennett Contracting. Steve was great with the estimate process and worked with us to keep everything within our budget. He met with us several times and helped us make decisions on material purchases. Eric was also wonderful to work with. He showed up on time and worked extremely efficiently. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy with the project and to make it as convenient as possible during the renovation. Would highly recommend Bennett and will be using them again in the future!

Perfect. Two installers showed up on time as promised. Professional. Installed the 6 windows in just a few hours, cleaned up, showed us how the windows work, answered any questions we had, et cetera. Old windows were taken away. We are very pleased. So pleased that we are having the salesman Tony stop by this Monday to measure 4 more windows. We will be using Bennett for more window replacements, sliding glass door replacements & a replacement front door. If you desire home repairs/construction completed by professionals who "know what they are doing" - go with this contractor (note - we have no connection to this contractor or any employees). Thanks for reading.

Last year we used Bennett to replace a large bow window (cost $4,000). This time we asked them to repair two wobbly banisters. For one they had to replace and re-anchor the supports and deal with the partly damaged wall. For the other, largely free-standing, they had to replace two supports and re-brace the rest. These repairs, like the window installation, were done skillfully and efficiently. We were especially impressed that Bennett approached the smaller job with the same care and standard of excellence as they had shown on the larger job.

I signed a contract to remove the almost 30 year old wood frame windows with new ECOShield 4000 series vinyl replacement windows. The estimate was to start work in 5 - 7 weeks and worked started 8 weeks later. They measured all the windows twice prior to ordering. The windows are good - they reduce noise from outside and the house is less drafty. Most of the windows were double hung tilt in, the kitchen was a casement window and the basement was 4 hopper units. I waited to post this report until after several cold windy winter days. The windows help a lot to keep the house warm and the furnace is on less. After the windows were installed I came home to a bit of a mess. I had to vacuum up all around each of the windows (sawdust from the wood trim and some other stuff on the windows and on the floors). All the floors needed a good cleaning. The glass was in good shape but I had to clean all of them twice to remove all the streaks, sticky finger prints, etc. I noticed that one of the covers on a night safety catch was cracked and the handles on the kitchen window cranks were loose. I called them and they fixed the broken safety catch and ordered new parts for the kitchen window and then replaced them. Later I notice that the wood trim was not fully attached on top of one of the windows, called again and they fixed that. They did all the work in a week and I am happy that the windows are replaced. There was nothing in the contract or work schedule about clean up after the job and I never asked. I would have been more satisfied if they had done some quality control check at the end of the job to catch and fix the 3 minor problems. leaving the home as clean as it was would have been nice touch. I would suggest you ask any company about what they do after the windows are installed - cleanup of the windows, the area around them so you know what to expect. You may want to cover a dresser or other furniture with a sheet to help make clean up easier. The wood trim is bare so now I need to paint that or find a painter. I received estimates from two other window replacement windows - one was about the same and one was much higher but they were both for different brands of windows. Comparison shopping for replacement windows is difficult due to the number of manufacturers, style, series.

I originally called Bennett (and several others) based on recommendations from Angie's list. I selected Bennett--even though their prices were comparable with 2 others who gave us quotes. I liked the fact that they were local--using local suppliers--and also that they were flexible in terms of timing. In June my wife and I settled on having them do the job--but didn't commit to it. The delay was because we had a wedding in our back yard in August, and were gone in September/early October--and Bennett was willing to work with us on the timing (I had to re-accumulate some $$, after the wedding, before starting the work). In mid October I got back to them with an OK--they quickly came out and made final measurements, ordered the doors, and started work in mid December. Every one associated with Bennett was a pleasure to work with, from Kevin Gutman who came out to hour home, went through all the options, and ultimately gave us a quote--and was willing to honor the quote 4 months later--to John who came out and did the measurements, through Andrew Dowen and Bill Mattison who ultimately installed the doors over a 3 day period. My wife and I have ZERO complaints. This was not a "bargain" deal, we went for the good stuff--and are very pleased (so far) with the installation, looks and functionality. Considering that the costs were similar to that of others, I think we made the right decision--and I'm positive that Bennett will stand by their products!
Description of Work: My wife and I hired Bennett Contracting to replace all 3 exterior doors, and storm doors, in our house 65 year old "ranch" style house--all of which were different, archaic and leaking around their edges.

The estimator was professional as were the installers. They were punctual and polite. The finish work they performed was not the best. Their work with the new drywall required us to call and get someone to come back out to finish it. The first person was pleasant enough, but did not do the best job. The second person who came out was also very pleasant, and did a much better job. The window installation itself appears to be very sound, but the wood work directly around the new windows is very inconsistent. Sometimes they made angled cuts and sometimes they just made square cuts. There are spots where the wood does not meet. Based on this work, we hired someone else to remodel our kitchen.

I called several companies to do this job and several would not do it or did not get back to me. Bennett was the only one who agreed to do the work and they were great. They cut a hole in the roof and put in a venting kit. They checked my attic for mold and also gave me some recommendations on some issues they saw with my roof. Job was completed quickly in about an hour and a half.

All new fixtures installed, fan vented to outside, new corner shower with rounded door that slides open and close, new toilet, new vanity, floor, etc. Second major job we had Bennett do for us this year. Same carpenter (Dennis) as prior job, who we could not praise enough for his hard work, keeping us informed, and returning to fix one minor problem with the shower door. Only problem with install was wrong vanity was ordered, which delayed job for a couple of weeks. Quality of work was great, as expected from our previous family room remodel. The estimator worked with me to determine the best product and color. He was very helpful and even got samples to help with the decision making process. We needed railings on the front and rear entrance to the house and from the inside of the garage to the house. The delivery of the materials was longer that I expected but the materials were of top quality. Installation was scheduled and the work began. The carpenter stayed and worked on the job continuously for four days and left the area with no trace of the work each day. He was responsive to my questions, did an incredible job and transformed all three entrances to the house. The outside entrances used aluminum railings which came in pieces and had to be installed. The measurements were perfect and the railings transform the look of the house and the entrances. The interior installation had to be designed and crafted by the carpenter. He picked the wood, did the design and installed them even with the irregularity of the steps. He made all the choices and did an excellent job in picking materials and installing them. Very pleased with the entire process.

My request for an estimate was accomplished in one day since my stairs have given way with rotted wood steps falling and pulling away from the house making the stairs unsafe. Steve the estimator came and assessed the damage and recognized how in the original construction there was too much space between the original steps and an absent top landing as you came out of the sunroom screenod door making it necessary to step over the high door/screen tracks to the step below. He talked about how to remedy the problem and what code requirements existed. He explained Trex Product and the 25 year warrenties and certified status of the firm to do installation of the product. We decided to have the work done ASAP and signed the contract that day. Steve was on the phone to see if materials were available and arranged for delivery before he left the house. Six days later I met Sean one, of the highly skilled craftsman that was to work on the project. He viewed the failed stairs and surrounding area, checked out electrical acess and looked at how to remedy some of the problems we had encountered in original constuction. He told me of the delivery to come later in the day and said he would be there with his partner, Eric the next morning at 8am. Sean and Eric were prompt, checked out supplies and started to measure and calculate what best to do. I listened to them under my kitchen window measure and calculate and lay down their plan. There is a lot to consider in the initial layout, math calculations and years of valuable experience. It was easy to realize these workers knew what they were doing. When they took the old stairs and rails down I had forgotten I had probably, 50 pots all sizes and garden items stored under the sunroom right where they had to work to install the new steps and rails. They helped me move all of that out from under the sunroom with good humor. They worked all day no breaks and got the stairs 90%done in one day. It looks excellent and feels solid. They built thge first step, as a small landing, which has made the stair exit to the outside safe. The distance between the steps has been corrected. Eric came back on Mon. to put the lattice work on the sides. I was instructed to wait 6 months to paint the pressure treated wood so it can cure. I could not be more pleased with Bennetts constuction work and the process they use in interacting with clients.
Description of Work: Took down and removed 5 foot wide stairs and rails coming off a 12x20 Three Season room to a Concrete Pad. Supplied and installed new pressure treated stringers with composite stairs and rails (Trex). Bennett's is a top certified contractor for Trex in my area, upstate NY.

I wasted my time talking with these guys. The estimator was an hour late for the appointment; at least he called. He said he didn't realize how far away I was. Didn't he look at a map? A GPS will should give driving distance. He wouldn't quote a price for the drywall; the best he could do is time and materials ($3500 for a taper for a week). He told me they could not tape the seam between the ceiling and wall; the wall would move and the tape would fail. There was no tape in the original drywall. After 40 years there were a couple of small cracks. Clearly he wasn't interested in the drywall work. I never did get even an hourly rate for sanding the floors or the electrical work. The estimator said my best bet was to put in new stairs. In fairness to him, I didn't know what was under the carpet. I had another contractor come out for an estimate. He felt the edge of the stairs. Because the edge was rounded, he was pretty sure that the wood under the carpet was good enough. At that point we pulled enough of the carpet to verify that the treads were good. As we walked out to look at the barn, the estimator from Bennett told me that the only reason he came out was to prevent a bad review. He was clearly in a hurry to leave. Sorry. If someone wastes my time, I'm going to write a bad review. He had no interest in the barn repair, and told me I might have to tear it down. The second contractor immediately focused on the construction of the anchor that prevents the barn from sliding down the hill. I am well within the advertised service area. If a company doesn't want to travel beyond a certain distance, they should make it clear in their service area or verify the address before scheduling an appointment. I can understand a contractor not wanting to take on too big or two small a job. I cannot believe that the job was too small or too large based on some of the other reviews or that the job requirements exceeded their skill set. There was also the potential for a kitchen and bathroom remodel, but I won't be calling these guys again.

The whole process started in early February. I received a call back to schedule an estimate appointment within 24 hours of leaving a message on their website. The estimator was on time and very professional. He advised me of the necessity to replace some hardware on the door that wasn't up to fire code, and was able to advise on building codes. I had a quote a few days later. After comparing quotes and deciding to go with Bennett, the remainder of the pre-sales discussions happened via email. They took the deposit via phone and scheduled a time for a project manager to come out and take final measurements and make sure that nothing was missed. They gave me a time frame of 4-6 weeks for the replacement doors to come in from being ordered. 4 weeks to the day I received a call back that the doors were in, and installation was scheduled for 2 business days later. The workers showed up right on time (if not a bit early) and got right to work. It took the team of 3 people 5 and a half hours to replace both doors. Once everything was complete they cleaned everything up (I'm pretty sure everything is cleaner than when they started), even going so far as to sweep the driveway to make sure they got all the construction debris. I'm exceptionally happy with the whole experience and would use Bennett again in a heartbeat. They're a little more expensive than some of the other contractors or going through Home Depot or Lowe's, but it's well worth it.
