We've called Albany its home for close to 100 years! We know this town, its people and its homes. We are unique -an older community with specific needs when it comes to heating and cooling. We appreciate the tradition and history of Albany’s older homes. But just because our residences come from the era of the model T, doesn’t mean they have to run like one.
Over time, we have become the experts in making sure an older home is running at peak efficiency when it comes to energy consumption. In order to properly diagnose your home’s needs, Farrell Brothers needs to look at its infrastructure, its duct work and air flow, insulation, windows and doors. All these things come into play when heating and cooling an older home. The biggest and best piece of equipment doesn’t always serve an Albany residence in the same way it would a brand new home.

Farrell Bros. installed a Triangle Tube propane combination unit in April 2013 to replace an oil furnace and separate hot water heater. They were exceptionally available, professional and technically knowledgable and I have enjoyed the new installation for two years. They replaced a warranted assembly device last spring at no additional cost to me. I have just received a customer service e-mail reminding me to clear snow away from incoming and outgoing vents. Who could ask for a better contractor?

Did not feel that the items indicated by your deal were done as advertised. Did have him return to replace outside faucet and pipe..appears to be a good job but will not know if any issues until whether warms to be running water outside.
Description of Work: first visit was for $99 inspection of plumbing and hot water heater - turned faucets on and off in kitchen and bathroom; flushed toilet; was supposed to drain hot water heater - filled a bucket partially - said no sediment and stopped at that. What was indicated would be done was not for the inspection fee... in and out in about 5 minutes. Did have him look at pipe leading to outside faucet to get estimate of cost to replace.

Good. I called and Bill was there that day since I could not run water with line spraying water in basement . He took a look and then left to get parts. He did a meticulous job fixing the electric switch box that was damaged from water and he put in a new gauge. He replaced old gasket with a better material and wrapped the pipe well.
Description of Work: Fixed a well pump line that blew after the well pump froze. He also replaced the electrical switch that was damaged when the line sprayed water all over basement.

Before purchasing this service call, I called to ask about the service call and told the female employee that I just needed the furnace started. I was not told there would be any additional fees. She told me that they?d send a person that lived close to me (10 minutes away) since he is the one who works with oil and that they are getting out of the oil service business. Two guys came, not who they said they'd send. The furnace stayed on for a few hours and then went off. I was frustrated and called someone else. A week later, I received a second bill for an additional 100.00 (150.00 total for what took the second provider 10 minutes and it is still working). When I called frustrated, I was spoken to rudely and told that I must?ve heard wrong because they tell every customer that the 49.00 only covers their trip out. The guy told me that they have this same problem with so many people so that they always make sure to tell every customer the same things (ad nauseum was the term he used). I explained that I called to ask questions and perhaps I threw off her spiel but I wasn't told about extra fees. He said that I was mistaken, that she tells everyone. Maybe they have this problem with so many other people because they are the cause of the problem. Who knows, all I can say is that customer service is not their strong suit. Instead of blaming, maybe change the way things are done and hire people who know how to handle customer concerns. We did settle on 99.00 total. So now I have to pay 99.00 for them not to have started the furnace in a way that would keep it on instead of 149.00 (including the initial service call).
Description of Work: started a furnace that went off a few hours later. It has now been started by another provider and it remains on

I appreciate your input and we will address the situation on our end but according to what you wrote all you wanted us to do was start the furnace for you and nothing else so I am not sure how we would have known the furnace was going to shut off a few hours later if you did not want us to service it and clean it which is probably what the 2nd company did? I would recommend an annual service contract with your local fuel provider so you do not have these problems in the future. Thank you for your past business and hopefully everything is working now! Farrell Brothers was very fair in their pricing and very accommodating to my schedule. They cleaned up after the furnace install and the entire transaction was seamless. So far there are no issues with the new furnace.
Description of Work: We bought the $99 furnace cleaning special from Angie's list but, ended up with a new furnace per the advise of the technician that was sent out. I did know that at some point soon we would need a new furnace so this wasn't surprising.

we had water leaking from our furnace. The problem was diagnosed quickly and corrected approximately 15 minutes. In addition to paying $49 for a coupon valued at $99, I was also charged an additional $105 for the work. While the work was completed in a professional and timely manner, I feel that $204 is a lot for only 15-20 minutes of work. I will also consider other plumbers in the future. While I did not pay $204, I did pay $50 for a $99 value. When you combine the $105 with the $99 coupon it comes to a total value of $204. If you only take into account what the customer paid for the service as cost/value, the coupon essentially has no value. While the work was completed in a satisfactory manner, I still believe that the cost was high and I now question the value of the coupon.

I am glad we were able to take care of your problem so quickly but just to clarify your stated numbers the actual cost to you was $49.00 paid to Angies List for the service call which is regularly priced at $99.00 and we charged you $99.00 plus New York state sales tax for the actual drain cleaning which bring your cost to $148.00 plus sales tax - not the $205.00 as stated in your review! Thank you Randy

This was a bait and switch nightmare. I used the Angie's List coupon for a $49 service call because I wanted a consult on why one steam radiator was not heating up. Setting up the appt was fine, 2 days after I called they scheduled a 9am service call. Since I work from home and had no conflicts until 11am, this was perfect. I was to receive a call from the repairman when he was en route. The day of the service call was snowy, but traffic was moving. At 9:25 I called the shop to find out where my repairman was. I had not received any call about being delayed or rescheduling. The shop told me he was en route, having left the shop 15 mins ago. I found that a bit odd since the shop is around 40 mins away and there was no way he was going to make appt, but had not called. He arrived over an hour late and we looked at the radiator and basement piping together. I took the steam vent out of the radiator (twisted it out by hand 2 full turns) and showed him my collection of new vents, We decided that it might help to put in a new vent, so I picked one and he twisted it back in. Now for letting him touch my system (hand twisting the vent back in) I got charged $99.00! I complained and said this was no way to start out a working relationship, since there was some real work yet to be done (replacing old pipe and blowing out the system). The repairman said this was what he was told by his boss to charge me and that I could speak to him. So I got on the phone with Randy, who proceeded to tell me that he could not run a business if he only charged me $49!! Not my problem! It appears to me that the company is using the coupon to get in the door and then watch out! I will not be using them for the real work and I caution anyone else against using their coupons, since clearly their profits come before establishing a good working relationship. Just received my voided check back in the mail and I appreciate the gesture, but do not appreciate the implication that I was not telling the truth. The repairman handed his phone to me while he was speaking with his boss and asked me if I would like to speak with Randy. So, unless there are multiple Randys in the office, I spoke directly to the owner and did not receive any satisfaction from him at the time.

I am sorry that the weather delayed our arrival to your home and I am sorry that you were not happy with the charge to replace the vent on your heating system but let me explain something about the $49.00 service call that may help all of our other Angies List members in the future. The service call is normally $99.00 and what it includes is driving to your home no matter what the weather conditions and diagnosing solutions to your plumbing or heating or air conditioning problems but it does include repairing or replacing any parts as we did at your house. The reason for that is that anything we do is warrantied for 1 year so if we perform any services that we may have to come back on there is a charge and the amount of the charge varies but the minimum is usually $99.00 which is what we originally charged you - by the way your check is in the mail back to you and your are welcome. I was away on vacation when all of this happened so I am not sure how you got on the phone with me and spoke to me because I have never spoken to you about this but when I returned from vacation I instructed my office to send your check back because they said you were not happy about having to pay to replace the vent on your heating system . The plumber did a fantastic job and was in and out in about 35 minutes. The rate the company charged seemed very high for this time involvement as the parts were not a big expense at all. So far the work has held up but there are less expensive alternatives I'm sure.

When I purchased the Angie's List big deal, I just purchased our home and wasn't anticipating renovating the master bath and replacing all flooring. Because of this work, most of the plumbing was disconnected, therefore, the comprehensive plumbing inspection part of the deal became irrelevant. The hot water heater flush was done so quickly, I didn't get the chance to observe. I guess I should have delayed this work until everything was in place for the complete inspection. The worker was very punctual and completed the work very quickly. On the negative side, after the worker left, I realized he didn't inspect the exposed water pipes in the basement and it would have been good if he showed me were the main water cut offs were located, since I see various water control parts, but not sure what they specifically are for.
