+ -1 moreTerrible. Started out well enough, but quickly went bad. The owner came out, and was very charming. Gave us a good price and asked for a down payment, which is usual and customary and then promised to start within 1 week. Well, week one came and went, as did week two with no word. In the meantime we have writtin a sizeable check and are wondering if a huge mistake was made. Several calls to the owner went unanswered for another couple of weeks, when finally he got back to us and promised the job would be started immediately. Another week goes by without a word, and more phone calls, then one guy shows up for 1/2 a day. Really? Thus began 2 more months of misery dealing with this company. Everyday was battle, when the owner did finally call back or come by, he just wanted more and more money with nothing in return. What should have been a two week job turned into 3 months of h***. His workers left food wrappers and empty drink containers on the ground and damaged existing trees while trenching. I understand that roots are going to be severed, but the machine was run into the trees and limbs were torn off due to carelessness. Sprinklers heads were put in behind trees. We had quite a bit of concrete edging put in, and probably 1/3 of it is going to be removed and redone because it is uneven or not straight. Workers laid sod on top of concrete and rocks, which my husband and I have had to tear up and redo. This job was to have been completed in May, but was not finished until July, thus we had to put in shrubs in the heat of summer. We just wanted them gone at this point and didn't care if it was finished or not. We have quite a bit more to do but I can assure you that we won't be calling Hernandez Lawn and Landscape back. UPDATE- The concrete edgways are cracking and disintigrating and we have already had to replace several broken pieces of buried pvc. I no longer hire anyone not on Angieslist!

+ 0 moreThis was a stressful and frustrating experience. If I ever landscape again, I think I will have an attorney draw up the contract. I wouldn't hire this company again for anything. I wish I had joined Angie's List before I hired anyone.
Description of Work: They started what we were told would be a 10 day job in early December and didn't finish until May 17th 2012. They came out 1 day in December and did some demolition to our yard. I assume that was to make sure they had the job. My wife and I leave for the winter, and they were supposed to be done by the time we came home on April 18th. On March 24th I was told by phone that he only had 3 days of work left to do and needed to be paid in full so he could pay his workers. I confirmed with my neighbor that the work was almost complete, so like a fool I paid him in full which left me no leverage with them. I had to call him multiple times every week, and each time was told that "the job would be done by the end of the week". Compared to other bids his price was good. But the quality of the workmanship and the way they left the job site was deplorable. On the desert style landscaping, he only put down on average enough crushed rock to barely cover the weed fabric. In many places the fabric is still visible. He was supposed to fix a low spot in my back yard which they left the way they found it. My yard gate was supposed to be widened and turned to open out instead of in. I have had to repair the gate work myself. They were supposed to remove the existing rock in my front yard and put down new fabric and rock. They didn't do that at all. I was supposed to have new stepping stones off my back deck. Instead they used the existing ones, and removed my stepping stones from the front yard to augment the stepping stones off the deck. The sprinkler system they installed still doesn't work properly to date.
