TLDR: slow, expensive, poor workmanship. I am giving them a 2 instead of 1 star just because I like Alan and his crewmen as human beings. I dont think they are necessarily trying to screw people, more just incompetent. I signed up for a time and materials contract with them because my building plan (post frame) was complex and was sure to present some unexpected challenges. $35k later I asked Alan to give me a bid to finish the project because he claimed we were 70-80% done and I was tired of watching it move slower and slower while costs mounted. He came back with a bid of and additional $54k to finish putting the roof on the place. I think this was more of a screw you I am not interested in your project anymore bid than an honest assessment of project costs. I found another honest hard working crew and they finished it for about $15k. It probably would have been even less but they had to spend a day or two fixing stuff that the Masterfield crew had messed up, mostly stuff that was far enough out of level / plumb / square that it prevented moving forward until it was corrected. Another annoying thing was that when Masterfield left, then not only took all the materials I had paid for through them on the and contract (like nails, house wrap, etc.) but the also took all my roof truss hangers and hardware, which was stuff they did not even purchase. I had to pester them for a week to bring me back my roof hardware but they kept everything else. They also mistakenly took my wheelbarrow and left their own, and they left a pile of scaffolding structural pieces that are still in my yard even after I told them multiple times that they forgot these and where to find them. Overall, I wish I dismissed Masterfield sooner but the silver lining is that I found a solid crew to work with on future projects.

The two men that came out were very courteous. The person who talked to me over the phone was very confrontational and called me a liar. We asked the owner to come out and review the situation, but he refused to come out.

Communication with office and owner poor. Once I paid down payment had to call several times to get scheduled. Once repaired started and there were issues couldnâ t get owner to reply to calls, texts or e-mails. Quality of repairs poor, used wrong wood repair products and put right on very wet wood sealing in water and rot. Did not complete beam restoration as promised. Will not hire again. Great professional crew and on time! Price on deck rehab reasonable. Highly recommend them and will hire them again for more work in spring.

Make sure anything promised is in writing. Quality of work is bordering on incompetence, owner difficult to work with. Tried to pass off work and materials that would not meet building codes. When I questioned the materials owner and contractor told me inspectors do not care! I told him I expected it built to code. Buyer beware of this company.

A little expensive, but overall excellent work

Overall this is a great professionally run construction company from the owner and the office, to the crew. Excellent, reasonable, and efficient work. They have been a pleasure to work with and I would not hesitate to refer them or hire them again!

Antiono has a very difficult time explaining the details of the project you want to have done. The more complex the more difficulty. But, this is because he tries to present 3 or 4 plans. I contacted Alan Masterfield of Masterfield Construction, a licensed contractor through Home Advisor, 5/24/16. He was to remove my enclosed 20 year old 16x20 patio (wood lattice walls/plywood flooring) and build me a new patio (Trex flooring/Alumawood pergola) using existing foundation. Deadline was agreed upon as July 16, 2016. Early on it became glaring apparent that he has little to no experience with Trex decking and Alumawood pergolas. My new pergola is brown and my new Trex deck is redwood color. The Trex deck does not look finished or completed by a professional contractor. He attached pieces of deck flooring as the border around the edge as the finish board! When asked why he did not put the finishing fascia boards on the edge of the deck, Alan said "we didn't discuss that". He cannot communicate as a professional businessman; during business hours. Since he did not provide me with itemized invoices I requested, I could not tell what he bought and what he was planning to do. As the contractor, it was his job to know what materials were needed to complete the project from start to finish and discuss the plans with me. He could not manage his crew's work schedule, secure my property, remove debris, or provide correct itemized invoices/contracts. When asked to provide me with detailed invoices, he said "he did not want me taking his prices to another contractor and low balling the job". When he did present me with his generalized invoice/contract, it was wrong. I brought it to his attention and he said "I am a construction worker trying to run a business". Day of installing the pergola, the crew installed 6 bent pieces and several pieces were missing. No communication what to expect or what the plan was to fix it; I came home to find it in this condition and had to contact him. It took several more weeks to get replacement parts from a third party (construction company/distributor) and more excuses. Finally, when the pergola was finished (9/6/16), I received my warranty information. I asked Alan about painting the pergola to match the Trex flooring deck color and he said "I'm not a chemist"! For what he charged me, the work was unacceptable! He was almost 8 weeks over the deadline and knew I was not satisfied, however did not offer any compensation and/or discuss making it right. I would NEVER recommend this contractor for any job. Inexperienced, overpriced, under handed, and took advantage of a single woman all along the construction project!

Masterfield construction replaced the foundations and pilings for my second story deck. Alan was very responsive, the whole things was done quickly and without any hassle. I now have a solid deck and could not be happier. I recommend them highly.

Responded promptly and followed-up in a timely manner. All work was completed better than anticipated. Excellent job.
