Steve was professional, prompt and very helpful throughout the entire process. He was patient with endless questions. He was there to go over the plan with all of his contractors. He did not give up until we were totally satisfied. We love our new space which I directly attribute to Steve's ability to listen to his clients, imagine it all and then help manifest the plan. I am surprised by the other very negative comments which I can only imagine came from either miscommunication between either clients or contractors he is not accustomed to working with, possibly not being involved in all of the decisions and billing. We were on a tight budget- we directly paid for all of our materials, appliances, and contractors and were there to evaluate the entire process.
Description of Work: This was an owner directed kitchen/dining room remodel with Steve consulting until the project was finisehd. He created 4 kitchen designs, consulted about materials, appliances, contractors, cabinet installation, lighting design, communicated and oversaw work with the contractors that he normally works with. We did not use all of his contractors so it was up to use to deal with them. He worked out a timeline of when the various jobs had to be completed and problem solved with unexpected issues. We have a tract home with a small (10x10) kitchen with about the same sized dining room, pretty yuck. We wanted to open the space up, modernized and make it more liveable for day to day use and entertaining. We have lived in the space over 20 years and had our own ideas about what we wanted. Steve listened to all of them and came up with plans incorporating our ideas. He also came up with a design plan we had not thought about that we ended up going with-- we are completely happy with how the space works now. Steve is knowledgeable about energy efficiency and green materials which we appreciated.

Steve Gunderson is a very talented interior designer. He designed a remodel for a bathroom in our home. Steve is also very unethical in the way that he handles money. We paid him directly for cabinets that were installed in the bathroom and were given a receipt marked “paid in full.” Several months later, the cabinet company called and asked us for payment ($4000). Needless to say, we were totally shocked. We attempted to reach Steve both by phone and by certified letter at both his home and his office, and never succeeded. He did not pick up the certified letters and never answered the phone messages. We filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and they were equally unsuccessful in contacting Steve. Just as we were about to go to Small Claims Court, the cabinet company called to tell us that they had been paid for our cabinets. I would NEVER trust Steve Gunderson to work for us again, as he now has a record of taking people’s money and not paying his own contractors. He has some problems with paying his bills after taking payment from clients.

We listened to Mr. Gunderson's various excuses for the non-delivery of shades ordered for our home. When pressed for an answer it would take him weeks to get back to us and then we would be given another excuse. This went on from February, 2012 to September, 2012; when we could no longer avoid the obvious conclusion that our shades were probably never ordered, and the funds prepaid were used for another purpose. We made demand on Mr. Gunderson for return to us of any items he did order, and for copies of receipts for those items. He produced 5 fabrics, but no copies of the purchase orders. After deducting the 5 fabrics ordered, and the total prepaid invoices we determined the amount of funds to be refunded to us to be $10,609.13. We provided Mr. Gunderson with a series of deadlines to repayment those funds. He admitted that they were not available, and promised to provide us with an acceptable and speedy repayment plan the following week. He did not respond to requests and reminders for the repayment plan and never provided such a plan. Our trust in this individual is gone. We are pursuing legal remedies available to us to recover our money. However, we do not wish this to happen to any other consumer.
Description of Work: Design invoices were prepaid by us in November, 2008, and December, 2011, for design elements to be ordered by Mr. Gunderson for our master bedroom. Our home was undergoing a complete remodel so those items were placed on hold; but Mr. Gunderson also presented two additional invoices for increased price on a headboard and curtains, citing misquoted original price and design change. Those two invoices were never paid by us - thank goodness. In mid-December, 2011, additional sums and fabrics were supplied to Mr. Gunderson for the fabrication of shades for windows in three rooms in the home. After checking on that order in February, April, May, June, July, August, September and getting various excuses as to why the shades were not fabricated and installed; it became apparent to us that the funds prepaid for the shades had probably been spent by Mr. Gunderson and that he the shade were never ordered. Having come to this conclusion, we terminated the business relationship, demanded whatever materials Mr. Gunderson had ordered on the invoices prepaid. The only items delivered to us were 5 fabrics. We requested copies of invoices for these fabrics and never received them. We requested the return of the fabrics we had provided for the shades, he did not produce those. We demanded refund of the monies prepaid by us, less the amount for the 5 fabrics provided, and he admitted that those funds were not available. He "promised" to provide an acceptable payment plan for speedy repayment of our money. He failed to provide a payment plan. Based on his actions, that funds prepaid to him for design elements were never produced; that he gave various excuses for over 10 months; that he admitted the funds we paid for our order were unavailable, we believe Mr. Gunderson converted those funds and used them for purposes other than intended. We are filing a complaint with the local BBB; and if necessary, will also commence legal action against Mr. Gunderson. However, Mr. Gunderson's apparent wanton disregard to preserve client's funds prepaid and entrusted to him for design elements is alarming. That he would use client's money for his own purpose, never provide the design elements paid for; continually give false excuses for delay is inexcusable. He has violated our trust and used our money for another purpose, depriving us of our funds. Regardless of Mr. Gunderson's design talents, this type of business practice and misuse of funds prepaid to him is unacceptable. We do not wish this to happen to anyone else.
